Do you guys know if they are adding the ability to connect to a server in any of the future versions?

Same feeling here. Freemium makes games uninteresting to me. I would not even give it a try.

In a nutshell, yes. If you want to see what you can do with it, look on Google images or youtube for Minecraft and you'll see some very impressive buildings.

    Massive update coming in feb

The mobile version of Minecraft available for iOS and Android devices released in November of last year, and while it's a serviceable recreation of the creation aspects of Minecraft, it lacked the survival ones.

The update to the game coming in February will lay the groundwork for the mobile version to feel closer to the PC counterpart. Daniel Kaplan, the "business guy," at Mojang, had this to say about the update: "In the background a lot of stuff has changed to support the survival aspects of the game. You will see some neat looking animals and new blocks," and "the foundation for survival will be mostly done and we can throw out much more fun updates!"

The update will be submitted on February 8 if all goes according to plan, so you can expect to download it shortly thereafter.

"As I stated in a previous post we had an initial plan of making Minecraft – Pocket Edition more like Minecraft Creative. But alas we were wrong. We have read tons of comments and feedback and it seems like we made a huge mistake. You wanted monsters, resources, animals and more different blocks. This means that the initial code we had written didn’t exactly fit with the new plan where we wanted to add all the stuff you have been asking for. So we have been reorganizing, rewritten and changed the whole plan for Minecraft – Pocket Edition.

    So where is my update?

We have planned to submit and update by February the 8th. Then Android Market and the iOS AppStore must approve it and it will be in your hands."

This game goes down in history as the craze that I least understand. Right now, is it like that game Eden, where you just build stuff out of blocks? I built a house in that game and was like uhhhh....ok.....I built a house. The graphics are off-the-charts bad, and the house does nothing. There's no story, no characters, no way to die, no enemies, no...anything that a game has to make it an actual game. Is that it? And the answer was yes, that was it. 7 bucks? The game is like 18 kb in size, with no...anything to it. Is this the same kind of craze as Enviro-bear or Desert Highway, where people kinda like it as a joke?? Like a so-bad-it's-good kind of thing? I only ask this because of the post above mine, where the poster seems to be excited about "Animal door fences and a new block". That to me sounds like he's kidding. Please, someone enlighten me?

If you don't get Minecraft, you don't get a lot of stuff. We can't help you. It taps into the most basic rule of play a person can have, and probably the first one they ever had... imagination. As a child you can reach out, grab any old piece of rubbish and create something with it. For many people, that ability never disappears, for some it does. Imagination is why Lego remains one of the most popular toy brands in the world more than 60 years after its creation. Imagination is timeless. It doesn't follow trends and the only way it can die is inside the individual, so if you don't have it now, you probably won't ever get it back and you have my condolences.

You're essentially looking for rules in a world which has no rules, which means you were on the wrong track right from the very beginning. Just don't ever try to write a book. Also, your post is riddled with so many inaccuracies I'm tempted to believe you haven't given the game half as much of a chance as you claim you have. What did you do? Sit down for ten minutes then brush it off? Most movies haven't even started by then.

I apologise if this post comes across as hostile, this is me trying to be nice. It's not easy explaining Minecraft.

I can understand where you are coming from if you are judging the ios version. To answer this, you really have to play the PC version. The graphics are not bad in the slightest. The lighting and physics are actually better than most games on consoles.

Its like someone dropped you into a land without knowing anything about it. Instantly you can see that everything is made out of legos and after a few minutes you realize that at night, zombies and spiders come out to kill you. Survive.

This ios version isn't even a good shadow of what the actual game is. There is no crafting, which to me at least, is a huge part of the game. No monsters, animals, weather, day / night cycle. Really this just a gimicky version of eden which was cheaper. Which they also admitted to screwing up on when they released it.

This is probably a minority, but the only mode my 9 year old likes is Creative mode, and he loves that. I'm glad they are going to add doors soon, because he really wants those. :)

I was of the same impression Quazonk about 2 months ago. This is the stupidest and definitely the ugliest game I have ever seen. What in the world do people see in it. I have a buddy up here at work that's big into it and I'm just, like, uh no.

Then I ran across an article regarding the educational benefits of the game. About how the economy in the game works great at teaching kids how to better manage their time, resources, etc. Keep in mind this is for Survival mode, not Creative.

So I bought a copy (when it was only $19, right before the official release). It was like being jacked in the Matrix. The game, when played on Survival mode on a PC, is pretty sweet. And my kids LOVE IT. My 9-yr old and my 4-yr old play the mess out of that game. I had to buy my 9-yr old his own account so he could play on the server I setup for it. I even bought them some Minecraft shirts for Christmas. lol My 12-yr old plays it but she's not nearly as consumed by it as the other two are.

$7 for an iOS Creative-mode only version is way overpriced (which is why I used freemyapps to get my version :))

If you want to see what the game is about, I HIGHLY recommend watching X's Adventures of Minecraft series.

My 9 year old thought $7 for creative mode was a steal. But he wants those doors and all the materials. :) Also you can play it multiplayer (local WiFi) without having to pay for separate accounts. That's nice.

I'm glad that they're gonna be adding new things in the next update, but right now Minebuilder is by far the better app and offers a much closer Minecraft experience than even this official app as it has crafting and survival.
you can even use various mods/texture packs to make it look more like Minecraft :)

    Update is coming soon! :)

Daniel said that the update should come out before this Thursday. It is already out for Android devices.

    The update includes the following:
    - Doors, Fences, Gates, and other new materials such as tools.
    - Zombies, and Sheep, along with a survival mode that includes day-night transitions and health.
    - Creative Mode Flying
    - Resources that you will have to earn.

This update is really great because it is becoming more and more like the PC version of Minecraft. I'm personally looking forward to it.

Jeb posted this video about it.

Mojang also said that the next updates will come out much more frequently, so now this game is definitely worth getting if you haven't gotten it yet.

    I am very excited! :D
