Great to hear you are enjoying the game! Hopefully you found some folks to compare scores with. I pretty much have no scores, so I wouldn't be a good comparison. :)

  2. Totally forgot that your game supported joypad. I'm going to try it and see how it is. You know what I love about Touch Arcade is there are so many developers on it. There have been numerous times that I have suggested improvements like the transparent controls, and developers have followed through on them.

But I did like how you implemented it. The slider method is cool, and everyone likes different levels of transparency. Your game was pretty perfect and the main thing I didn't like when I first posted here was the transparency of the controls.

But now that you have implemented it, I have to try out joypad. This will be fun! I wish more games had joypad support, and I really hope someday Apple gets their head our of their ars and come out with a wireless bluetooth controller!

I just bought the Soundfreaq bluetooth wireless speaker, and it is totally awesome. So going to use that, and joypad to play your game.

A mobile arcade in my hands now. I'll let you know how it goes.

Actually, I wonder if this will work cause both need bluetooth. Maybe I will have to use my Soundfreaq wired, not wireless.

Oh I got a new project to do now. Let you know how it plays when I get back...

Yeah, definitely let us know how it goes and what you think! One thing that might be nice to do (but is very low priority at the moment) would be to customize the joypad controller on your phone/touch. We just went with the default NES controller which suits our needs for now.

I believe you can use Wi-Fi for Joypad. Let us know how it goes! :)

Qpawn, do you have any other speedrunning games (besides Hook series and Mos Speedrun) that you would recommend?

League of Evil 1 & 2 are the only others that I've spent a lot of time on. I haven't really found too many speedrun games on iOS. Maybe some other folks can recommend something. :)

My favorite non-platformer of all time has to be SpeedTap. It's FREE and I love it. No leaderboards, but there's an old forum thread where I made my first post over 3 years ago! :D

  7. It works like a charm. Turned on my bluetooth and wifi, and I got both my bluetooth Soundfreaq speaker and my iphone joypad both running great. Wondered if it would work, but it does!

A great mobile arcade, my ipad on an ihome tripod, wireless Soundfreaq speakers, and a wireless joypad iphone. The sound is so great on the Soundfreaq, for it's small size,it really has some amazing sounds. It has some kind of surround digital processing that makes it sound extra sweet.

    What an awesome setup! Wow!

The joypad app was ok, but I kind of wished that I could move the buttons around. Because of that, I think I still prefer to play with my ipad controls. I guess there is no way to move buttons on the joypad app right?

But it was great having the buttons turned off, and not having my fingers in the way of the screen like normal. I'm going to have to try some of my other joypad games now that I got my soundfreaq, like Infinity field hd and silverfish hd.

    Was a blast.

Only thing that I would mention that is when I played with my joypad, after I turned it off, I thought the transparency settings for my ipad controls would revert back to normal. They didn't, so I went into the options, and for a second I was confused when I went to the joystick options section.

When I got to the move buttons screen, you see nothing, so it almost seemed like the screen crashed... That's what I thought for a second.

Maybe the transparency slider should have the captions above it that say Transparency or something. It was confusing there for a second. But it would be nice if your transparency settings were set back to normal after you disconnected from joypad.

Not really a showstopper, but thought I would just mention it. But it was great playing your game with joypad and my soundfreaq, great fun!

Glad you enjoyed it, and those Soundfreaq speakers look pretty cool, I might have to check those out sometime.

Yeah, I think the joypad app would be better with custom controls. But I don't know if they allow users to customize them. I want to say no, or at least I didn't see anything in the SDK that would allow for users to move the control positions.

And I think you got bit by our 1.2 transparency bug. Basically, if you updated from 1.1 -> 1.2, then there was an issue that set the controller opacity to 0 (invisible). Only a one time thing, but we've already submitted a fix for that and a couple of other things.

Otherwise, we don't change the transparency when the user uses Joypad or iCade. It is up to you to hide the controllers if you want.

We can probably make it more clear in a future update with some text or an icon. :)

  10. Cool, if you add some kind of icon or label to the transparency bar, it will be my second implemented improvement to the game! You guys are great for listening to us and making improvements to the game! Thanks!

Just a heads up: we submitted a bug fix update (1.2.1) a few days ago to address the invisible controls, random button hitbox offset, and a crashing bug caused by changes to Game Center in iOS6. That crash came as a complete surprise, and it appears that we aren't the only ones affected, as a bunch of other devs have reported the same issue.

I only wanted to mention that crash because we are starting to see more reports of it, including an iTunes review. It basically renders Mikey Shorts unplayable if you hit it. But if you do, go ahead and try disabling GC, and see if you can start the game.

Otherwise, we apologize for that surprise issue, and hopefully the fix will make it through review soon.

Cool, glad to know it will be addressed! I thought I was in Bizarro world when I couldn't see the controls, then I reset them from my custom layout and now I am really screwed (iPad user, so the buttons always seem to far off in these type of games at their default). I will keep looking for the update!

When you say "really screwed" do you mean that you still can't see the controls? If that's the case then you can use the transparency slider in the Edit Controls menu to change the transparency. Then you should be able to see the controls again, and not have to wait for the update.

Just to be clear, the update won't fix controls that had already been made invisible. But it will prevent that problem from happening in the first place. :)

  14. You know this may be a really stupid question, but I was trying to get 3 stars on a level, do I need to get any coins?

I assume getting 3 stars is just based on time right? So don't need any coins right? Just get all the mummy guys right?

Sorry, this info must be in this thread somewhere, but I was out feeding homeless people when Mikey Shorts 101 was taking place. Thanks :)

When I finished with joypad, I kind of felt the same way got that blank joystick screen, and was wondering if my ipad had crashed. But then remembered that the transparency bar which kind of was one of my ideas was the solution. I think he is saying he reset the controls, so now the placements don't work for him. But if you move the slider up, you can see the controls and move them again to how you like.

Another one of my suggestions, either an icon or label on the transparency bar would do wonders for this baffling situation. We are not as smart as developers! Haha :p

There are no stupid questions here! Yes, getting 3 stars is solely based on time (or points in Challenge mode). And you do have to get all of the statues so that you can break through the gates.

Also, on the Level Complete screen, you can see a time/star box on the left-hand side. That will show you what time you need to equal or better to get 1, 2, or 3 stars.

Yeah, I think we'll try to add something near the slider to indicate what its purpose is. And I think we're saying the same thing about the controls. He got hit with the "invisible" problem, and then pressed on "Reset Controls". But now he can't find them because they are invisible and moved. So you are right that adjusting the slider will allow for him to see the controls, and readjust them.

I really wish Apple would hurry this update through so that people won't hit this bug anymore.

  17. Thanks for your nice answers.

I think Apple is getting swamped by updates for ios6 and iphone 5. I'm getting sick of updating all these games. I got so many games on my new ipad 64 gb, updating 20 apps a day, and a lot are big.

So my ipad keeps hanging like crazy! It is almost making me think that Microsoft is now in charge of my ipad since it is freezing so much from doing all of these stupid updates.

I used to love updates for new ipad retina, but now that I'm on the other side of the fence, getting sick of my ipad hanging for the iphone 5, haha! ;)

That's why I never update. :) I think I have 107 updates right now, and some are from a long time ago.

  19. Yeah, I really hate it when they update with ads or freemiums, but I'm kind of anal, hate having that number icon displayed...

And love using the update all button...

If you have that many updates, does the icon say 107?

And is there anyway to turn that stupid number off? I wished it worked like a text message, if would inform you, but would disappear after you acknowledged it.

Also hate that number icon on the general settings icon. Haven't updated to ios6 on my iphone 4, and don't like the number on that icon.

Please tell me there is a secret developer cure for my problems.

I was off by one -- have 106 updates, and it does display the number. I do wish there were a way to acknowledge that and have it clear it without updating. I don't know of a way to do it.
