Skirmish mode is the only promising factor for this game for me in the hopes of giving this game what it was missing; randomness!... The campaign was very straight forward in that you had to play each "stage" a certain way and didn't really allow for tactics since it was laid out in a finite way. I may get this, may pass (already own it for the 360)... Would like to hear what some folks have to say that have actually played through this game before and are playing this one now (all you lucky people closer to the sun!). The game was good but the single player was a "once you've played it, no point in revisiting" kind of deal because of the way the game dictated the solutions to the challenge.
I find the loading screen and dialog box (small ones coming out from the characters) blurry, but the cutscenes, as well as the actual battles look fine. I don't think they are retina, but they are sharp enough. iPad3
Nothing like FFT. This is a match-3 game crossed with strategy. You match at least three units vertically to attack, match three horizontally to form a defensive line. Those are some of the basics, but there are some great tactical elements, and the battle design is absolutely stellar. It's not merely a ton of the same types of battles. There's a lot going on, not to mention a leveling system for your heroes, units, etc. The story and dialogue ain't half bad either.
Really? I've played on DS and PC and haven't found the campaign to be overly repetitive. There's a bit of randomness that tends to dictate the strategy, IMO (which can be frustrating at times) so I'm looking forward to playing it again. I didn't find the battle solutions to be particularly formulaic.
Ugh, What a terrible time for me to be unemployed and broke as I've been waiting patiently for this gem to be released... Oh well, hope they release a light version for me to drool over until I get some money. Great reviews so far, looks like it ported well!
Wow, this would have worked SO much better on the iPhone in portrait. It is TINY. May relegate most of my playing to the iPad.
Yup, plays great on the iPad but it's pretty hard to delete units and even place them properly on the battlefield when playing on the iPhone. iCloud syncing works perfectly though so the iPhone is a decent on-the-go option.
