Wait wait wait, is the game still running at over 60 fps in those pictures? That is incredible. What device do you guys test on?
The structure is basically the same but now with the new rewards, collectibles and other goodies. Jonny will totally turn that art around.
Wow, the graphics are now perfect. I really can't believe how far it has come considering how good the original graphics were... I also really like your idea for an icon; putting a big beautiful, full 3d version of the character right on the button every person is going to see before playing the game is a perfect way to make the character iconic. Well done. Oh, and this is all not to mention how well you have addressed the issues of tone and character design, which were barely issues to begin with. I really want this game to succeed: it just looks so darn good! I would make sure to splice in that amazing full 3d body shot of the character at some point to make him feel more real. Maybe while you are describing the backstory or as a trophy for beating the game in a certain amount of time like the metroid series! great, now I NEED this
You bet !!! Our number one goal is to have the game run at 60fps. The thing is gameplay response just doesn't feel right if we let that drop. We are aware many other games are releasing at 30fps (and even lower), but the input response is just not quite there. We are developing on 2nd gen devices.
I am really happy you guys are liking this art direction. My credit, give Jonny unquestionable power over art direction. Thanks to him you guys won't have to go through any more programmers art You guys will feel the same with Jason's sound and production work. Keep the feedbacks coming, and thanks for the support.
I'm really pleased about how well everyone is taking the new art direction. We are (as Alex mentioned) completely committed to keeping this game running at 60 fps, which has been and will continue to be the ground floor of the art design as well. It is currently playing brilliantly because of Alexanders mad skills, and its been a joy to work in this development environment. Jason has been busy doing sound and music which sounds really good. Music done on the iPod in fact which completely blows me away. This project is a blast to work on. Thanks to everyone here for all the comments. We read everything you guys post on here and discuss it internally. The end result really is shaped by the community. Keep the feedback coming! I do post tweets about things I'm currently working on from time to time, so feel free to go there for some random updates on the project.
Wow.... Looks AMAZING! And at 60 FPS?!?! Can't wait for it now. How are things lookin for submission?
Oh, how I would love to use pixel shaders and post-processing.. the possibilities would be endless. I do however think we need to focus on other parts of the game at the moment, but there could always room for updates in the future Hitch: We're moving towards our final goal quickly, but no date set quite yet. The majority of the stuff required is already ingame and playable, it's all about adding the new graphical/audio content and polish at this point.
I dont know about a 3D character, cus jumping can then be hard to jude if the camera angle isnt right, like in avatar, you cant see where your jumping to half the time. But a 2d character would insure some accuracy at least as you are inline. Just some food for thought.
Uh oh, Rozgo! Front page! It's big-time now! (NO PRESSURE!) Ha ha! Congrats! Btw, the new screen shots are amazing. I have this feeling... Not only is this game going to be a success, but you guys might be getting some job offers after all of this. Anyway; with publicity, the need for a title quickly becomes an issue. Time for a naming contest?
Yes, unless something changes which I doubt, we'll be building using 2.2.1. Which will make it compatible with all later OS versions.
Are the screens on the top the new ones or the old ones? I love the style of the ones on the bottom, and not so keen on the ones on top. "Illegal sneak peek 3" video looks awesome!
Please make sure that objects which can be destroyed display some visual feedback as they are damaged. Cracks appearing, or just the color turning a brighter and brighter shade of red... something to indicate that your bullets are actually having an effect on the object (or enemy) you're trying to destroy. Love the new art style! Looking forward to more previews.
