WOW just looked at this game, cannot believe it has taken me this long, but it looks amazing and i will definately be buying this when it comes out. Hope it gets submitted on the 20th as planned so i can have this in my mits in about a week. Thanks in advance for a great game! Oh and just a quick question, how does this game save? Is it at checkpoints, 'cus from looking at the vidoes the levels look pretty long, and i have an iphone so any call when im playing will cancel all my progress, which happens in Plushed and i dont play it due to that problem, which i would hate to happen to this game. Also, is the character in the final build going to be the red one, or the silvery one in the newest video? I cant decide which one i like better! Really looking forward to this game!
I like the fact that it has color, very very much... but I like the character being black and white like in the earlier videos much better. EDIT: and this is an instant buy for me! I have already reserved $1.99 and am counting the days to JAN 20th... I know its not set in stone, but I am still count'n! EDIT: after looking at the red guy, I think that one looks pretty good... I think you should have different color suits of armor... different colors means different strengths? or you could just go with a choose your own color at the beginning of the game... but I like the different color suits idea I came up with better...
I finally put my finger on what bugged me about the "colorful" scheme that I am not sure that you chose as the final one. It may be too late, but oh well, I will tell you anyway. I was looking for this to be a side scrolling metroid inspired game, and the metroid series was designed to be ominous. The theme was that you were a lone bounty hunter being attacked on all sides by powerful enemies on a strange planet. When creating the graphics, the idea was that alone + strange world + surrounded by enemy aliens = dark tone. This is why I felt such vivid colors were out of place. At the same time, the GBA metroid series (the side scrolling ones that I played the most) had a fair share of color in them, which is why I felt that the first scheme wasn't perfect either. I was also a bit put off by the 2.5d design that you used because the GBA metroids just used straight up 2d, and that is what I am used to. I still, however, hold the opinion that it isn't just me, 2d graphics just make more sense for this type of game. Although, I think I should clarify what I mean by that. I am fine with shading to make everything look 3d ish, but I should not be able to see the top of the floor/platforms; from the perspective of the game, it just makes no sense. Edit: I must say, while I was re-watching some of the gameplay videos I noticed that the 2.5d environments look really nice, but they just make everything else look bizarrely flat in comparison...
I guess I'll just chime in my two cents; the original"black and white" color scheme of the character looked pretty badass, although I personally wouldn't mind a more colorful version of it either I'm certainly looking forward to this game, will definitely be one an insta-buy for me!
I like both color pallettes, maybe you can mix the two together, much like how the metroid series did even back in the NES days. The game had no problem using vibrant colors yet at the same time, had a dark and eerie tone to it. Besides, it's all about gameplay. I love Metroid 2 and that was on the pea-green gameboy. I say go with your vision, since it's your game. You will never please everyone. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to this game requardless, it looks really fun.
I agree that gameplay is what is most important, and, from the looks of things, your game has got it! I love the fact that you mixed in a little bit of physics! Ps: Is there any way you can shoot a little bit of video our way? I need a little bit of something to tide me over...
anything would tide me over... more screens, release info... progress updates, you know. have you considered releasing a free demo on the app store? their are lite versions of everything, but to my knowledge, no company releases a lite version first as a demo... but if you really releasing this game on the 20th, I am not sure what the point would be... it would take longer to build it than it matters, but having a demo out a day before launch would be kinda cool! Trey.
The game looks really cool! I like how you added physics and puzzles to it and I do like the 2.5D graphics, although it does make the enemies and main character look flat, but the game play definitely makes up for any of those short-comings. In my opinion however, I liked the black-white theme better, it looks more outlandish. I'll definitely be buying it anyway, so I'm looking forward to it!
Wow. I'm just hitting this thread for the first time. Watched the video, and this looks like an exceptional game. Tons of creativity in the different exploration mechanics. And then you throw in a hook-and-swing element!? Too cool, man. I'll definitely be looking out for this one.
Thanks HelperMonkey. Here are more images. In game character is still up in the air whether it'll make it in 3D or not. The decision will come down to gameplay and perf.
[drool]That is so.... beautiful.[/drool] I cannot believe how far this gane has progressed. Now I really cannot wait for it to come out.
