There were a couple - one I think may still be active is one from Campbell Bird for subscribers of his newsletter - Small Screen - which helps highlight some of the best games on iOS each week. You can check out his post here - it's worth a look! https://twitter.com/campbellbirds/status/1298953410948083712

Isn’t he the one nobody likes that writes on pocketgamer? Or am I getting confused?

Still haven’t had a chance to launch this game yet but hopefully soon especially with all these comments. But I want to get a good hour to just play this the first time I try it.

I'm really really interested but I want to hear more impressions from our forum members.

The original was great but I felt like it was lacking in depth or content. I'm not sure how to describe it - its actually been a while. I just wonder how this compares. I'm not saying the game is bad, it looks incredible, but I don't like games that feel shallow or you play a couple runs, win, and then you kinda don't care and have seen it all. I love games with tons of content, statistics, and seems like you could keep playing forever and unlock cool stuff (NOTFM, Slay the Spire, Dead Cells type content).

Well I wanted some time to play....just fell down the stairs and possibly broken my big toe so I’m stuck waiting in a&e. Not quite what I had in mind!

But hey thank you @slothwerks as I’m sure the wait will be better when I fire this baby up now.

If you are on the fence about this game, don’t be. Buy it. Right now. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate. Slam that buy button like your first prom date slammed your kissing abilities. It’s that good....

it’s oozing quality. It exudes charm. It invites exploration of synergies, and is LOADED with content (and with Slothwerks track record of supporting its titles post-release, you can bet there will be more coming). It is a lot different from the original Meteorfall, in that this isn’t a one on one card battler roguelike.... but it is BETTER than the original (in my opinion) and an EASY contender for my mobile goty (sorry StS, your a port. A great port, but still.... just a port)

I’d keep writing but I have another run to complete.... catch you dudes at the underground cult meeting spot or whatever it’s called....

Got a chance to play through several levels straight today. Reinforced my thoughts that it's everything the first one was with better/more interesting mechanics and great style. Pleased that it exceeded my expectations.

That 3rd level boss is rough, getting trashed by him. Need better cards unlocked.

    @slothweks
Would it be possible to get landscape mode for ipads? ;)

    Thanks

Haha that's some serious monkey's paw business! That's rough, but hope this gives you a way to pass the time!

    Definitely more stuff coming soon!

Landscape is supported (in one orientation at least) in the Settings > Video tab. I actually prefer to play in landscape on iPad also. I didn't support auto-rotate because a lot of folks were playing on phone and found it kind of obnoxious. Sticking a landscape option in Settings was sort of a compromise for that. Let me know if you have any issues with it!

One mistake BTW that I've seen a lot of folks make is not removing (or perhaps, not knowing that you can) remove tiles from you deck and replace them with better rounds. For instance, on Bruno, I'll generally remove all the Short Swords, Slashes, and Bucket Helm within the first couple rounds. I probably need to explain this in-game a bit better but many folks struggling early on is due to not replacing some of those starting tiles with better ones. Worth a shot if you haven't tried that!

Didn't notice the video settings button.
Portrait great for phone but love landscape on iPad, thanks for including the feature!

    update:
Tried the daily mission and got to try the necromancer for the first time. Love the change in strategy!

@slothwerks i need to rest more so I’ll post properly later, when you say about removing cards do you mean when my deck is full and I pick things to remove? Or can I remove things before then?

Also just attached a screenshot where I believe it should say when rather than with.

Finally had a go at Krumit’s Tale and man, this is something else.

Y’all will probably remember my infamous post in the Slay the Spire thread (I hope you don’t), but that’s something to leave in the past and Eric and I resolved that matter over on Twitter a while ago. I’m still so grateful for that exchange.

Truthfully, I’ve always loved Journeys. I felt it was the one deck-building roguelike on iOS to truly understand the platform and bring something new, original and most importantly, accessible to the genre. I don’t want to talk to too much about Krumit until I’ve sunk much more time into it, but it is equally pains and pleasures me to say Meteorfall: Journeys now feels like a proof of concept. Krumit’s Tale is just the perfect evolution of Journeys and feels so rounded out in comparison. So much so that I don’t miss the Tinder-like swiping at all.

    So good. So, so good.

Yep - when the deck is full and you pick things to remove! I've watched some new folks play and I've seen them take some of the (bad) starter cards pretty far into the game, lacking the firepower they need for the more advanced dungeons. If you're already buying more than your deck can hold and removing some of the earlier cards - you're doing great on that part.

Thank you so much! I'm definitely proud of how easy / accessible Journeys was but at the same time, really proud that Krumit's Tale that is a deeper, more strategic experience. One of the biggest critiques of Journeys was that punishing RNG, which is almost completely gone in Krumit's Tale. It's a game with a higher skill ceiling and I think folks will find it more "fair" than Journeys as they master the mechanics.

I’m really enjoying it so far, I have unlocked the first 3 characters and it’s nice to see how different they are.

The gameplay is great and your right I can see how it’s deeper and will have a higher skill ceiling it makes you think about your moves it’s very tactical. I can’t wait to play more.

    Was the android version delayed?

Yeah - still in review sadly. Here's the more in-depth explanation I posted on Reddit -

"Yeah, I'm really sorry for the confusion! Everything about the Play Store UI implies that putting your app live is an instant rollout of your app worldwide.

Apparently, they've always had a review process, but that it now takes days instead of hours due to COVID. I would've been fine with this except for the fact that it's just really not clear at all in the UI when and how the review will be conducted. If the button I pressed said 'Submit for Review', then I'd know to expect some sort of delay. Instead, the button I pressed just says 'Release to production' which implies that'll - you know - release the app.

I contacted Google Play Support and that's how I found out that the review process is up to 7(!) days and can't be expedited.

Definitely my bad for sending out the announcement email before checking it was live, but I legitimately thought it'd be out within a few hours. I'm a big fan of Android and an Android user myself but I'm definitely disappointed in the launch experience from Play this time around and am really sorry I couldn't launch on the date I'd advertised!"

Android should be a naughty word around here.

That sucks though they it doesn’t tell you or anything.

I’m really liking Muldorf and Rose, although I need to get better at using Rose. So far the hardest one for me has been Mischeif.

@slothwerks I have to say I love my little pickled monster it’s handy in the early game as Muldorf. Just attaching a screenshot of the chill description as it does not function when I use a minion, but it doesn’t state they must attack me personally it just says when the enemy acts if it’s contains an attack they would be frozen which works if I don’t use a minion but not when I do.

Also what should frozen do exactly? They seem to attack still but I take no damage but they can still act like give themselves defence.

After playing with the other heroes I thought I’d go back to Bruno and try him again and I beat the game first try.

Mainly went for defence to get the parry and also got chill and increased my base attack to 4 by the end which was all very helpful with all the defence items I had. The only weapon I really used was the katana with +9 attack that could be used after a parry which was great for bosses along with the lion shield.

Early game I highly recommend the defence stance that served me extremely well until the last few dungeons, the -1 attack was nothing since I’d taken perks to increase it anyway.

The point re: Chill is a fair one. The reason it doesn't work for minions is that it would be *too* powerful if it did. I can see how that might be unexpected since it's not mentioned, but as a general rule, *none* of the perks work with minions unless they explicitly say they do.

As for Chill - it merely reduces the enemy's attack (yellow diamond) to 0 for that round. They can still act in other ways (Poison, Block) but their attack - if any - will be 0. I believe it's explained if you tap on any of the underlined words when you see them, which I've seen some players miss.
