I totally forgot that you mentioned Superjoint Ritual up there... The only other song that I heard was It Takes No Guts, and it was INSANE. That and Embody the Invisible were by far the best songs off of the THUG soundtrack.
So I'm done with my song if anyone wants to hear it! Please be gentle but constructional criticism is always welcome. Keep in mind, I know there are several f*ck ups in the song. This is just a preliminary recording. I will rerecord it when I get more time (this song alone took like 3 hours to record lol I suck that bad, and recording is tough) Here it is.
Just listened to it. I liked it, but the drums are really loud! Also, the style reminds me of the FtB era BG, so thrashy speedmetal, but this was a bit more thrashy. Are you planning to vocalise it?
Anyone listen to Dream Theater? They have some really talented guys, minus Portnoy who left a few months back. But still, Images and Words and Scenes from a Memory are just awesome.
Hahahah my bad on the drums. When I was recording and doing playback it was done on expensive ass Bose noise canceling headphones that I only use for recording. Taking a second listen on a regular pair of 'phones they are really loud. I shall fix this soon. Thanks for the listen man =) And yes I plan to vocalize soon I just don't know how I wNt to do it yet, and any lyrics. =/
Ah, I'm waitin' for it. : D What style of vocals are you planning? @Watabou: DT isn't a great band IMO. LaBrie and Petrucci are good, Myung nothing special and Rudess is just... well, bad. Shadow Gallery for example is a far superior band.
What! How can you call Rudess bad? He's just legendary with the keyboard. I've really been amazed by his work. Plus, Myung is just awesome live and I consider him to be one of the greatest bass players along with Geddy and Entwistle.
Rudess' music is just slow and soulless. If you want to listen to a good keaboardist, try Jens Johansson (who is no doubt the best), or even Janne Wirman or Bob Katsionis.
I too think Rudess is a tad overrated. He's a great keyboardist no doubt about it, but his work in DT is just... meh. No feeling to it really. He has his good songs though. Myung however is one of my Favourite bassists of all time no doubt about it. He is fantastic. But more importantly were forgetting about Mike Portnoy. He is a god at the drums no matter how you spit it. He is very talented and has a very wide style of drumming. I honestly believe he can play anything. lol Dream Theater is a great band, I like them. I have been listening to them for a long time (I favour their earlier albums more than their recent ones, with the exception of A Nightmare to Remember on their latest record... that song is simply epic). However, there is plenty of other bands out there, like Balu` said, that far surpass DT. Still, doesn't mean that they are a terrible band. ^.^ By the way, fixed the drums on my song. Should be a lot more tolerable, and can hear everything else better. I plan on adding clean vocals to it, but may pull and Opeth and do some deep growls on a few parts. It'll be fine without them though. Either way, I gotta practice some singing again. Don't know how I am going to do the vocals.
Yeah I guess. I just really like their style. Especially the old songs like you said, and yes, I agree about Portnoy. I'm really sad he left... So what metal band are your favorites? I haven't really listened to a lot of metal really. The ones I listen to fairly regularly are DT, Opeth, Metallica, Rush, and Within Temptation(well I guess you can't really call it metal these days). Not a lot of my friends listen to metal either. They all like the hip hop crap. Some album recommendations would be nice. I especially like Symphonic metal. It's awesome.
@Booch: Good to hear you fixd the drums, and glad you plan on adding clean vocals. I wouldn't like it with harsh ones a bit, it just wouldn't fit. Some kind of Iced Earth like vocals would fit it best I think though. @Watabou: Mmm, hard to name favorites... I mostly listen to power, symphonic, progressive metal and the combinations of them. If I had to pick one band, I'd say Stratovarius, but if more... I really love Shadow Gallery, EVERYTHING by Arjen Lucassen, Blind Guardian, Epica, Therion, Haggard, but there are a lot, lot more . If you like symphonic metal, you probably know the three best ones, Haggard, Therion and Epica. Others just can't reach the level of them.
@Balu Yeah I can't really sing good except imitation M. Barlow or M. Akerfeldt vocals. I've decided on the rougher Barlow style vocals for the song. Having my wife help me out with lyrics because... Well I am in no way a lyricist hahaha Used iMovie to post up on YouTube.
Wow dude... That is gonna kick SOOO much a__ when you finish it!!! I just hope the vocals are done well. And I need some good stuff to get me pumped up... Happy kinda music... I'm in an AWESOME mood right now and need some good music to go with it.
Hey thank for all the great feedback guys! Means a lot to me. Will be working on teh voculars soon hahahah hope I get em right too! I'm actually having trouble pin pointing what they should sound like and where since ive always been just an instrumental kinda guy. I'll get em though
Well that was pretty damn awesome. I admittedly havnt heard their new album or anything. Definitely going to have to listen their newer stuff! ^.^
