Oh ok... you might want to point me to the uniqueness of the album though...

Oh I've been worse. Caught a cold and the headaches + blocked nose is hindering everything (should be gone by tomorrow).

I don't want to admit it, but in my current condition, I find the vast majority of my extreme metal songs unejoyable (don't even ask why). It's been power metal, goth, symphonic, folk and some mathcore for the past few days.

*Edit: Two Orden Ogan albums worth buying? Loved the song you showed me and the iTune previews sound pretty good.

Just to let you know, Australians are being ripped off badly by Apple's music store. I can get ~50% off album purchases if I bought an album in the American iTune store with an American iTune gift card on special. Apparently, a reform is coming but that could take years :(.

I don't see how you can't find Sabaton unique for a power metal band. Their vocalist is clearly different from the usual high-pitched singer, the instrumental parts can be heavily influenced by traditional metal and their lyrical themes are also unorthodox (even though they became somewhat repetetive after a few albums).

Well, I hope you're better now! :>

That sounds like good news to me, but that might be because you're getting closer to my taste. ^^

Yeah, definitely!

You're not alone with this, we Europeans get screwed pretty badly with all digital distributors. On Steam, it's $1 = €1, on iTunes it's almost completely random. And we don't even have Euros in my country. >.<

That song wasn't bad (in your next post), but the vocals aren't... well, good. :>

Oh I see...

Yup better now, getting back to my usual death/black/thrash/metalcore mix :D.

WOW Orden Ogan is great! Love their folk influences in some songs! Probably your best recommendation in recent times :p.

That sounds confusing as heck... better hope someone is going to do something.

I found the vocals a bit outlandish but the chorus was a saving grace. The rest of the album I did not like so... meh.

I don't get along that well with most of you guys's metal opinions, but I'm going to post anyway :p I've just realised i've spent about half my life as a metalhead now and burnt through most common sub-genres. So i tend to explore for interesting sounds that surprise me and invoke new emotional responses or whatever.

Lately i've been stirring through a lot of this new fandangled "blackgaze" scene, various forms of avant-garde/prog black metal and whatnot. Some of my favourites:

Sleeping Peonies - Mist And Sea Spray, Mermaids Singing Far Away.
Atmospheric, ambient, black, shoegazey, etc. The vocals are more of a backing instrument, which i always appreciate. And they go for dreamy mythical themes, both lyrically and texturally, which makes a pretty unique sound.

Anyways, i'll keep popping in from time to time. Might dig up something you guys find interesting one of these days :p

edit: forgot the hail spirit noir vid

I guess I'll have to check some of these out tomorrow, but I have really no idea what to expect. I've never tried more "blackgaze" than the obligatory Alcest and related stuff.

And yeah, our tastes are quite different, but that's no problem at all imo. Plus, I haven't been listening to metal that much lately, more of post-rock, ambient and similar stuff, that's most enjoyable when one is insanely tired. >.<

@gunxsword:
Sad to hear. I thought for a second that you were on the right track. >.<

And yeah, it's confusing. What's even stranger is that some sites (like my favorite game distributor, gog.com) manage to do it right - there, everyone from anywhere pays the equivilent to the same USD price.

I listen to Alcest and similar bands like Les Discrets and Old Silver Key pretty often, but they're a really different sound. They're more of a post-rock shoegaze, rather than post-black. So there's quite a bit of difference both in the vocals and the overall sound. Alcest is recorded very cleanly.

Les Discrets and Old Silver Key really are post-rock/shoegaze, the former with some neofolk added, but Alcest has some strong black metal influences (especially on Écailles de Lune).

Anyway, the songs you posted weren't bad, though the vocals in the first one were quite a bit annoying. The second one was unlike pretty much everything I've heart, but still, the third one is my favorite out of the batch.
However, I don't hear much black metal influence in any of them, except for the vocals in the first one.

Also, the messy production of the first two didn't really help the experience. I'm a big fan of clean production jobs.

*Cough* production jobs that flatten things so they don't sound 'busy'.

I don't hate you or anything, but I really want to post this song to kill off a few braincells. Hope you don't suffer too much from it:

Young bands + metalcore = post traumatic stress disorder for the listener, most of the time.

Btw Balu`, you know more bands that sound like Orden Ogan?

Ahh, the messy production is half of the appeal to me. I figure that the low quality (a.k.a "raw") production quality is where the black influence is most prominent. Seeing as that's one of the most common and unique characteristics of black metal.

I'll have to check out some more Alcest to hear their blacker stuff. Atm, I only have Les Voyages De L'Âme.

Also, take my genre classifications with a grain of salt :p I piece it all together pretty loosely based off what bands claim to be and what just makes sense in my head. I organise my iTunes library into genres and sometimes forget what makes sense to me could be way off an accurate genre.

Nah. Production jobs that let me hear the stuff that's going on without sounding noisy. ^^

Hm, I've heard worse metalcore, but not many times. :>

I'll post some tomorrow, I think. I hope. I'll try not to forget. >.<

Maybe, but that might be one of the reasons (in addition to the "classical" lyrical themes) why I don't listen to much black metal. :>

Try this song:
[youtube]GhRNN8BIZxE[youtube]
The black metal influence here is pretty obvious.

Genres exist pretty much to give people a slight clue what the music will be like. Yours are just as good as any for that purpose. ^^

Ahh nice. Wasn't expecting it to be that much heavier. It sounds pretty awesome but. Seems I need to expand my collection!

@gunxsword:
Not much success at finding similar stuff.
How about these guys? Folk influences in power, vocals make it a lot closer to Falconer, though.

NEW BE'LAKOR sounds like a MDM wet dream! Not really, but it's a masterpiece. I'm pretty sure they're the biggest MDM band in Australia now :D.

Kiuas and Cadacross sound good, the rest were meh.

The Night Reveals was actually my favourite song for a few weeks :p Love it. I Like that crimfall song you posted to. I haven't had a chance to listen to the others yet.

@gunxsword: I'm listening to Aspect by Be'lakor right now, it's actually pretty ing awesome! Wouldn't expect them to be Australian. They have gigs coming up in melbourne, canberra and sydney but not Brisbane :( I drove down to sydney a few weeks ago for Arch Enemy. Almost tempted to go on another road trip lol.

edit: wow, didn't know TA had a swearing filter lol.

Didn't like Stone's Reach as much as The Frail Tide. Of Breadth and Bone is just one heck of a step up from both albums that both sound somewhat novice in comparison.

Btw, The Stranded – Survivalism Boulevard is a criminally catchy (poppy) MDM band (or modern MDM) if you're interested.

Bumpin' time! This stuff is REALLY awesome prog/black mix (with pretty good lyrics in my opinion). Recommended for everyone who visits this thread.

This is one of the less extreme songs on the album, but my favorite so far.

Huh? What's the rest?

Found the whole damn album to be wonderful... just sheer wonderful! Though I was intensely bored by the slow acoustic sections :p (forced me to split the first song into two parts, and shave off minutes off some other songs).

What do you like about prog anyway? Is it the tempo changes? I'm surprised to see you listen to Ne Obliviscaris (prog black) and I thought you didn't like aggressive music.

Dunno why you are asking me for recommendations, but try Lanfear - This Harmonic Consonance if you haven't heard of it. I'm loving it to bits! :D

*Edit: since you asked, I dunno if you'll like it but since you said 'anything', here goes a thrash song:
