Also, don't feel like you have to listen to all the stuff we recommend. I mean, this thread has been going on for over a year before you came here, there's hundreds of bands in here most people don't know/don't want to know about. :Đ
It's not like I'm listening to recommendations for your sake... -_-' I just like good music that's all. And I want to listen to ALL OF THEM
Haha, no you don't. There's some seriously weird stuff here. Weirder than most people can tolerate. :x
There's not of that here. That's seriously disgusting stuff. :# O by the way. Grindcore from the guitarist of... Stratovarius. :ĐĐ
So. Interesting and exciting news for Booch138: On my Facebook I posted that I am getting back into the full swing of music. Now that I have a lot more time on my hands, I have been playing guitar relentlessly and aggressively, trying to work the rust and kinks out of my playing. Needless to say, at this point, the aforementioned rust is clear, and I am ready to jump back into the band atmosphere. After a couple replies in the post, I conveyed my desires of starting a Melodeath band. I got 7 PM's regarding starting a band with me, including a few people who I have previously worked with before. One of the people who messaged me is actually looking to leave his current band as a bassist and get in on a project, or band with him on guitars (which he is a very talented for only being 19) due to severe band drama and such. From the people I have received messages from, I get to select from the following: A Female Vocalist (Beautiful Cleans, High Pitch Screams), A Keyboardist, 3 Guitarists, 1 Guitar/Bassist, and one Drummer/Keyboardist. I've played with the Female with the vocals, used to be in a Melodeath band with her in HS, though she didn't sing cleans, just harsh vocals (and quite frankly, rivaled even more professional screams like the higher ones from The Black Dahlia Murder). While she has great harsh vocals, especially for a chick, she did say that she didn't want to use them much, as she is much more into clean vocals these days. I have no problem with that, but not entirely sure that is the direction I want to go with the band. The Guitarist/Bassist I mentioned earlier is more of a Tech Death guy, but LOVES Melodeath. He said he just doesn't feel that he has the ability to create a Melodeath song as good as he could play one or contribute things to. This guy is on my hit list for the band, he played his last show with his band last night, and wants to devote time with the band with me and school. The Keyboardist/Drummer is my cousin. Definitely in the band automatically. lol... hey is a decent keyboardist, but a very good technical drummer. I compare his oddity in style to that of the latter drummer of Death. Very technical, but not entirely sure which I would rather have him on, drums or keys. Probably drums though because the other Keyboards guy that messaged me I've heard is pretty damn good, and knows his effects, scales and chords very well. This is definitely fantastic for me, and everyone for some reason is really excited to hear that I am getting back into music. I guess I entertain people well? hahahahaha. Anyways, I am extremely humbled by the devotion for my cause. The people that I have worked with always let me have creative control over the music, and contribute when they have an idea once in a while in a song (which I absolutely have no problem with at all). The very fact that (and I honestly didn't expect to get any replies about wanting to start a band) people are willing to get with me and start making music with me makes me EXTREMELY happy. I went to my cousin's house last night to jam with him, and revive some older songs I have laid out drum tracks for, and he loved them, and made keys (Piano and Strings effects) instantly for one of the songs. We actually finished it, and want to record it here pretty soon when we can get the ability. In the meantime I will probably just record it with a video camera and show you guys so you can hear. It's pretty sweet.... I feel alive again.
Well, good for you, Booch! /sorry for not quoting, but that's a huge wall of text/ That sounds good so far, I'm not happy that it's going to be melodeath, though. :x What kind of style are you going for exactly, by the way? Also, what kind of setup (2 or 1 guitar 1 key 1 drum 1 vocal I guess) will you have?:X
hahaha yeah I was excited to share ^.^ I know you aren't particularly excited that it's Melodeath, but at least with the couple songs I have dedicated to the project, I think you can enjoy some, if not all the musical aspect of it. My Melodeath mainly focuses on the Melodic aspect of things revolving around guitars and Piano/Strings sounds (like old In Flames/Insomnium if I had to compare), not so much the aggression or speed (like The Black Dahlia Murder/At the Gates), which is why I think you will enjoy it really. And I currently have no vocals for the ideas I have, but no doubt they will ultimately be harsh vocals. Until we find a good vocalist, I will do the harsh vocals, but I would really like to find someone who has equal talent in both Cleans and Harshs, as I want to incorporate both in my music. As for the set-up, I would really like 2 Guitarists, a Bassist, Keys, Drums, and a vocalist. No more, no less. Unless I find a member who can do the intrumentals and sing. But like I said, I don't plan on doing vocals permanently, and would like to find a vocalist who just does that. The song we finished yesterday I think you would /really/ enjoy. It's quite pretty.
Sounds interesting, but why wouldn't some clean (female) vocals fit in there? It could make things a little more interesting. :x Only thing I'm not too keen on from this description is your use of synths - in melodeath/power metal, I much prefer the actually synth-y sounds (think Jens) to strings/piano. Ah, yeah, the bass, I always forget that. No idea why, I've always considered it a pretty pointless instrument in metal. But that's not what we're talking about... I wasn't too wrong here at least. :x Well, I'm looking forward to hearing it, then. :>
It would work, and I've thought about it. Like I said, just not entirely sure that's what I want. This project is still in it's embryonic stages, I mean like I said. I know she would do great, and having already worked with her in the past would make things easier... all good points to consider. I may actually end up taking her in 0.o Synth-ie sounds do work best with Melodeath, and the Piano/Strings is a weird idea. I didn't like the thought of it at first.... till we played with them with the song (the pianos had a lot of reverb making them eerily pretty). It's fantastic. I am sure we will more than utilize many different styles of key sounds and possibly even guitar effects. But like I said, last night was a pretty intense sound. Loved it. And I am also sure that, especially with the amount of members I particularly want to involve, the music style will shift overall. I will lay the "foundation and framework for the house", and everyone can take turns "decorating". Bass is awesome... but in metal, yeah it's typically not that amusing. lol... In any event, I am excited by this projected band going on. I really hope that things work out well. Even if everything were to flop, and no one ended up joining me, I can still handle everything on my own. So I will still be making music.
Meh, I trust you the things will turn out sounding good. Whether I'll like them or not is a totally different question. :x So, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but do you have any music recommendations for me?:X
Actually I do have a suggestion (though I think you know them), and will kind of give you an idea of how I want my Melodeath to sound like, with maybe a little bit more harsh vocals, and a little bit heavier guitars and melodic hooks, but typically more or less how I want it to sound.
Hmm, I do know/like Amorphis. :x I don't really consider them melodeath except for their first two or three albums. If your stuff will sound like this, I'll probably like it, though. :ĐĐ Btw, I've got an insanely weird recommendation for you! It's like.. classic progmetal mixed with female vocals, some new age, big parts of progdeath and some of Unexpect-like randomness.
Well, you also know my tastes and stuff too, and have known that I have been in several different bands and make different projects and such. I may not necessarily like this fact, but just because I want it to be Melodeath, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to sound entirely Melodeath. That Amorphis song sounds, like I said, pretty similar in terms of speed and sound to the one song that my cousin and I played around with. I too, only think Amorphis used to be a Melodeath band, not so much anymore. Who knows what will happen with this project 0.o I'll check that song out in a bit, gotta run to my boss's office in a few.
