Perhaps I should take life less seriously... -_-; I'm stressing myself over every minute detail and erroneous 'fact' of this world. *Edit 1: LOVE THE FIRST SONG!!!
You really should. I just wouldn't miss out on completely idoiotic conversations for the world. Yay! You're in luck then, because they have 4 or 5 quality albums with similar stuff. :x
-_-' That's what I'm trying to avoid. But it's hard for me to separate the important/life threatening ones from the seemingly real yet trollish ones. WOOT! Prog power metal!
hahahahah @GxS: Balu` and I give each other a lot a shit about each others' ages. The only difference is, it's not really much of an insult to say "You're so young!" versus someone telling your "You're f*ckin' old!!!" so in the long run, I get hurt more On a more serious note though, yeah I agree with WoJ from Helloween being essentially the first Power Metal album. It had speed influences too, but yeah. |m| Oh, and all we do is troll in this thread, haven't you learned? =P
Your geriatric knowledge certainly has enlightened me Now I have ------------------------ Symphony X is ok...
That's just a rumor. The truth is, they f*cking suck Ironically though, that song Balu` posted is probably the only song I enjoy from them. Edit: Now you're both going to give me shit about my age? I'm going to complain about this thread and tell the mods that it turned me into a homosexual terrorist and it needs to go. TAKE THAT!
Suck!? SX are amazing, especially their singer. Anyway, are you familiar with Pain of Salvation? It's pure progmetal mostly, but really interesting. Ask Booch if you don't trust me. :X
That's the worst part of them! I would second checking out PoS. They have very weird signatures, one minute they are calm, and abruptly they will have a heavier sound. Makes for interesting music that's for sure. I'd highly suggest "BE" "Remedy Lane" and/or "Scarsick" for starters.
I'll just listen to Paradise Lost and decide for myself... any other album I should try out? Why can't there be more normal proggy music like math???
Hm, The Odyssey maybe. That's usually said to be their best. Sorry man, but math is neither real prog neither interesting in my eyes. :X
You can't get anything more normal in the prog department than Ayreon's "The Human Equation" album, and yet at the same time it is one of the most unique sounding Rock Opera/Prog Metal albums I have ever ever heard of. I sincerely doubt you will dig it, but if you have an open mind, listening to the whole 1 Hour and 42 Minute experience will leave you breathless... I actually listened to some of it on my way to work today. I will always hold that album close to my heart.
It's just... very fast and aggressive prog I guess XD @Booch I think could enjoy a rock opera with prog elements... Would it sound similar to Green Day's American Idiot album? <- my favorite non metal album.
Haha. This compariosn got a big smile from me, and I'm guessing from Booch aswell. No, it's nothing like that and much better in every way. :X
They would sound extremely similar... like the sound of a Choir of Heavenly Angels in comparison to nails on a chalk board. Green Day is another discussion for another day, but I will just let it be known that I hate that band these days. In other words though, I highly suggest "The Human Equation". I think I have suggested that album in the recent years to more people than any other album that I can think of. It can appeal to SOOOOO many different people who like different kinds of music. For instance, my mom, whom only listens to like... Contemporary Country and Christian music LOVED it. It's just one of those albums that any fan of music MUST listen to. There are a few select songs I like more than others obviously, but listening to it from Day 1 to Day 20, is just an incredible experience. I see your asking about that comparison though. I am not making fun of it in any way. The thing is, American Idiot is a Concept Album, as is The Human Equation. But a Rock Opera is more of a genre of music, where as a "Concept Album" is just a theme, or story for your album to have. Any genre of music can essentially have a "Concept".
