You didn't?! You are severely missing out. Especially with In Flames. Their later albums haven't been all the best, since Anders decided to sing a bit more (not that I particularly mind, but I do miss the olden days) and in the case of their last album, the absence of Jesper Stromblad, their main music writer and lead guitarist. Same with Dark Tranq, they have some great albums, however, only with the 100% Harsh vocal singing. When they try and do clean vocals, it sounds like a complete joke. I avoid those ones. And At the Gates are the black sheep of the bunch because they straight up don't even bother with Keys. haahahaha If you like old school Melodeath, and I mean even remotely close to a fan, you need to download these 5 albums right now. (by the way, I am probably thee biggest In Flames fan you will ever come across. Seen em 9 times now, own 8 shirts from them, and have a tattoo of one of their logos, soon to be two tattoos)

In Flames - The Jester's Race (Their second album, and my personal favourite of all 10)

In Flames - Whoracle (Their 3rd album, and my second favourite album. Also the last album with these particular deep growl vocal types)

In Flames - Colony (Their 4th album, and the beginning of Anders' newer vocal style. It has evolved over the course of their career, but essentially has stayed the same. This album is amazing though.)

Keep in mind these top three albums sound nothing (not even close) to anything that have put out in recent years.

Dark Tranquility - The Mind's I (Their best album by a long shot)

Dark Tranquility - Character (A little more recent, but fully functional Melodeath goodness. The inclusion of Electronica type keys and sounds make for interesting and, sometimes creepy, music)

Download these albums, spend the rest of your day studying them. You need to learn your history damnit!

oh, and I didn't mean to capitalize the 'M' and 'D' on Modern Day Eucharist. The band is just called "Eucharist" and the album is called "Mirrorworlds".

Argh... ... ... my quota is going to break...

To receive a lecture from Booch...
    -------------------------
    *Edit:
I'm enjoying grindcore (ignore this) and folk metal a lot lately. Got any recommendations for the latter? I don't like starting new genres because its time consuming (to read reviews, listen to music, edit music info...).

I've already finished 'experiencing' Eluveitie and got the EP Trollhammaren from Fintroll.

    ^.^

But seriously. At least give "The Jester's Race" and "Whoracle" a shot. In fact, I will make it simple for you. I will give you a song from each album, and you can decide from there if you want to listen to the whole album ^.^

From In Flames' The Jester's Race:

    Your welcome :)

As for grindcore, it is one of my least favourite genres of music next to dubstep, so I really can't help you there. Folk metal stuff I will get back to you on though. I enjoy some of that, especially Ensiferum and Folkearth.

    That was rather... unnecessary...

Do I still need to listen to songs you recommend? I'm pretty sure they've all got a Booch's Stamp of Approval on them :D

Bah, In Flames still sucks. Their last album was pretty decent though, especially the parts that were totally "unmelodeath". >.<

I recently rediscovered my love for Cynic. Especially their non-metal albums, but Traced in Air is awesome too. Know those guys, gunxsword?

    !?!?!?
    Conflict of opinions???

Now I do! A pretty weird mix of genres though, not sure how things will turn out. Will give them a try (after a bombardment of recommendations from Booch).

hahaha sorry I wasn't trying to be a dick or anything, so if i came off that way, I am really really sorry. I am just really enthusiastic about sharing music, especially when it comes to In Flames, because I love them sooooooo much.

I have them written down, but I have to wait till this weekend when I take my laptop over to my friend's house so I can download everything I need to. So I will post then when I have heard them :)

Shut it! Nobody asked you!

Yeah that album was less of a Melodeath album and more of a "crowd pleaser". We can thank the absence of Jesper and the switch to Century Media for that I am sure. Still, probably my 6th favourite album from them. Anything is better than "Come Clarity".

hahah Cynic is interesting. Like some songs, but never got into them near as much as you do.

I guess so. :x I just prefer the catchy altmetal like stuff from their latest.

Alright, Booch is really keeping you busy.
    :ĐĐ

Century Media is a somewhat poppy label, but I doubt they really influenced the band's sound. More like the songwriter changes...

Now tell me this isn't an absolutely brilliant song:

MISUNDERSTANDING! My idea is that your recommendations are always of such a high standard that there's no need for me (at least) to listen to the songs to like them. :p

I've never been disappointed in any of your recommendations so, words of approval will be more than enough :D

    ...
    *evil grin*

This isn't an absolutely brilliant song (in fact, it's no where near 'brilliant' in my books). I don't see the appeal in this song

I strongly dislike emotional and sentimental vocals like these. Sounds unnecessarily pretentious.

That's because you like fast/angry/heavy music. I just hope you'll learn to appreciaty the more subtle styles.
Anyway, to me, great music has to be either emotionally strong or technically great and innovative. This has some of both.

There's a reason why the link was directed at Booch. ;D
And how exactly is emotional music pretentious?

I do like some slower songs but they tend to be more symphonic.

Trying to arouse something out of nothing. It also sounds awkwardly unnatural or overproduced.

Yeah, I know, that's why I said subtle, because symphonic is anything but.

I don't really agree with you. The main purpose of music, hell, of any art is. To express emotions.

Hehe... subtle... I don't have enough patience for them.

    NO! You're wrong!
When you nail music down to its very roots, I believe its about the melodies and sound that matters. Emotions is something that's produced via the medium of sound, sometimes rather poorly because too much emotion will sound insincere.

    I guess I won't recoommend much ambient. :Đ

That quote doesn't prove me wrong, not at all. It just lists the tools a musician uses to convey his emotions.

Ohhhh! I get you. I really felt bad for a minute there. ahahahaha *bows gracefully* why thank you! I take pride in my decent knowledge of metal music. Particularly Melodeath ^.^ I am glad you have enjoyed all the recommendations I've shown you. I have a lot.. hahaahah I, too, have enjoyed what you have shared, that's why I am looking forward to checking out the several albums you listed pages ago hahaahaha

Yeah I have trouble wanting to blame CM for the rather drastic style shift In Flames took, but ignorance is bliss right? =P

That was a good song! While I agree that the music was particularly different, and while I do not mind clean vocals, I wasn't a fan of them much. The harmonies were good though. All in all it was a good song.

    @TheSubjectofPretentiousCleanVoxandMusicEmotionEvokedThroughSound

Music, by my definition, is the art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, and harmony.

Emotion can be expressed through many different ways, be them vocals, or any amount of given instruments.

Yeah well, that emotional stuff needs to stop now.

I don't think my device will have enough space to hold the IF and DT albums...

@Booch: /too big wall of text to quote from my phone/
Glad you liked the song. I agree, he isn't a technically skilled vocalist or anything, but I just really like the sound of his voice.

By the way, check out the Devin song 'Traestorz'. It's the full version of. The technoish part in TMM.

But all music has emotion! No matter what it is. If you think about it, it's true. You just may not particularly like the certain emotion that a particular breed of music is trying to emulate... Just thought I would throw that out there

    Make room!

hahaha Well at least go for "The Jester Race" and/or "Whoracle". You simply cannot do wrong having those around.

Yeah it wasn't bad. Just, I guess I gotta be in the mood for it today. Today I am in an Elliott Smith mood. So that is completely and totally void of anything metal hahahaha (Talk about emotional music, right gunxsword?) hahaahah

I will check it out asap!

Write your impressions as soon as you can. And also, be prepared for Devlab-level weirdness.
