Melodeath album first: Emerging Misery by Smargroth. It's just an all around good album. Some subtle and intricate melodies, pretty fast tempo and CATCHY MELODIES! The album is just uniformly good. I can't make any comparisons with any other melodeath bands/albums because, it feels like a middle point between everything - average drums (my definition of average is a score of 80% ), good guitar work and o.k. vocals (kinda like a slightly softer version of Callenish Circle). Oh and @Balu what da ya think of Shadow's Forever Chaos? Last thing I want to mention... WHY DIDN'T ANYONE RECOMMEND ME Neuraxis??? Trilateral Progression sounds so freaking good!!!
As you know, I'm not a big melodeath fan, but that stuff is actually pretty good! :> Well, my excuse is that this is my first time hearing of them. :x
Haha, it's not that I don't enjoy it on occasion, it's just that I've always preferred clean vocals over harsh ones. :>
Neuraxis is okay. I want to like them a lot, but they are kind of boring. They are somewhere in the middle of Tech Death and Melodeath, and where it is doesn't sound fun. hahaahaha. Been really into that Shadow album, wife likes it a ton too. Japanese Melodeath ftw!
SHOCK! (mouth agape) HOLY! (Google search) Female vocalist!?!?!? I never noticed! (now I do...) Damn I love the intense guitar shredding and solos. (sorry for the kinda late reply, for some reason I didn't get any instant subscription emails for this thread...) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Em ok... the topic of my post... I found this instrumental progressive (?) metal album called Assimilate Regenerate by Paul Wardingham. If you don't like or have something against instrumental albums, then this probably won't be much interest for you (em Balu? You like prog right?). All I can say about this album is... the album art looks like Tron, the song names are references to sci-fi themes, and the music is awesome . Lots of guitar solos (to the point that they competently replace the need for vocals), and good guitar solos too. For some reason, an overwhelming majority of the solos sound very nice. There's also a lot of variation in the speed of the solos. However, I haven't heard the album enough times (I'm naturally bad at remembering stuff though...) to remember if riffs/solos are recycled so, don't judge me when I'm claiming that the solos are varied and can warrant repeated listens . The artist has a youtube channel that hosts pretty much the entire album (not in order). I recommend the most brutal (read: fast, but more like 'faster than medium speed' in my books) titular track Assimilate Regenerate and Cyber Warfare (<- love the 'chorus' solos) for starters.
Since I started posting on music related matters, I might as well post some of my recent (like within 2 days) music fetishes (no sexual innuendos plz, 2nd definition of the word on Dictionary.com). *Edit: yes, I'm a Evangelion fan/nut/geek. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!
Yeah Shadow really sets the bar for me with Female Melodeath harsh vocals. I mean I can usually tell between female and male harsh vocals fairly easily, but when you first played them for me, I seriously thought it was a dude. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing (lol), but it sure gives them bonus points from me. Now that I know, it is easier to pick out, but still very good. Very VERY good. Those songs you posted wern't bad either, I like OST to Anime and Games myself, especially ones that involve a techno-trance mixed with metal type of genre. Like music from the Appleseed movies. *drools*
@gunxsword: I'm not aware of that instrumental prog album you mentioned, but I'll check it out. I do love prog! :> Those anime soundtracks... the first two weren't bad, the third one was ruined by the vocals - but probably because I hate the language. :x @Booch: Melodeath is not a thing I can help you with.. but a new Theocracy album will be available really soon as I've said before, so that'll be something to listen to. :x
Yeah I am definitely looking forward to that. Let me know as soon as a link pops up for it, I'll be looking around myself. Can't wait. I don't know if they could top MoS though... that was just so good..
Reviews say that it's even better than that, which is hard to believe, but there is a chance of that. Did you listen to the Thy Catafalque album, by the way? Gotta write 4 English essays today, short ones though. The problem is that in those, I'll have to watch my grammar a lot more than here. >.<
ORLY?! hahahaa I'll have to hear it to believe it. But I can't wait either. I have it DL'ed but I have only listened to like half of it. Got tied up with something at work at the time, and then I just plain forgot about it. lol... think I will give it a full listen now though. That sounds like fun, what are the essays about if I may ask? And I wouldn't worry too much, you actually have very good grammar for someone with English as a second (or 5th, however many languages you speak now lol) language.
Haha, same here. I just want to hear it. :x That's probably a good idea, I'm listening to it right now. It's probably one of the most consistent album released in the past few months. The topics are totally random, the teacher got them from sample language exam tests, right now I'm writing one about the car and its impacts on todays society or something like that. >.< Thanks for that! :> But I don't really watch the way I use the language here other than the basics. Mostly because using the part of my vocabulary that consists of fancy, big word would make me come off as nothing but pretentious. :x
hahahaaha aye. Yeah I am listening to it too. Need to show this to my wife. I want to see the reaction of her face when she hears it. hahaha That is random. hahahaah yeah I can see you knowing enough words to form sentences where I can call you a big pretentious asshole. hahahaha
Don't forget to tell me about her reaction! :x /especially to the weird, neo-classical electronic parts/ Yeah, that's what I've been trying to avoid. :Đ
Will do. I'll film it on my iPod and send it to you. hahahaah jk hahaha I know enough words where I could be called something similar, but for the most part I stick to simple language ridden with curse words. I was told it makes me sound "Dumb" before, so I use that as a cover up. ^.^ (That's not to say I don't have my dumb moments anyways...)
:ĐĐ I can definitely vouch for that last part. ^^ Anyway, I never really cared about how sophisticated a language one uses, as long as its not overly stupid and fairly correct as far as grammar goes. :x
Yeah it definitely is funny when people try to sound "smart" (like me) but come off as a total freaking dumb ass hahahaha. It's great. What's your favourite track on Rengeteg? I am going to have to say mine (having listen to the whole awesome album now) is Kék ingem lobogó.
It really is fun! Too bad we can't really do that as good in Hungarian as in English. :x Right now, it's Az eső, az eső, az eső. :x
