Did my review on Aus iTunes. Could've been better (a lot better), but I cbb'd... And yeah, I'm loving the album more than any other symphonic black album currently in my possession (even Sagas). Damn I love the guitars and the chilling soundscape. Too bad the lyrics are in russian though Highly recommend Wintermoon Symphony, Part 2 - Winter Elements and Slavonic Power.
Good to see we agree about.. some stuff at least. :x My short list would be, I guess, some of it sorted by genres: - Progressive metal: Devin (obviously), Mike Baker (probably the most underrated progmetal singer ever, brilliant work with Shadow Gallery), Damian Wilson (amazing voice, also really underrated / Threshold, Star One, an Ayreon appearance, solo works) - Power metal: Hansi Kürsch, Timo Kotipelto, Tony Kakko - Progdeath: Dan Swanö (you won't agree with me by any chance, but I like his voice and compositions at least at much as Mikael's) Got some more, but far too lazy. :x @gunxsword: That's a nice review... definitely made me want to check some more out from by them. :x
Definitely going to check it out man. Decent little review there! I need to start reviewing music. I have too much to say about the music I listen to. lol. Too bad I don't have hardly any time to do so. Nice little list there ^.^ I do like Dan and his music and projects, I just happen to disagree with you strongly that he is a better musician than Mike ^.^ Man work has been hell. And things are going really bad at home. Might be splitting up for good or something soon. Pretty low today. On top of that, I am really overweight. >.<
They have totally different styles. And how is this not better than at least anything Mike's done since Ghost Reveries? >.< Ouch, sounds bad. :\ How overweight do you mean by that?:x
Oh absolutely, I am not comparing their styles in similarity or anything, I just think overall Mikael is a better songwriter and vocalist. That's all, which is ironic since Mike seems to write more Prog shit and Dan seems to write more Melodic shit. That song is great, I loved it. I like his work. But there is nothing strictly complex about it. Mikael writes guitar cords that are practically unknown to man. lol. I will say this though, that song is much better than 80% of shit that's been released since GR. Especially with Heritage, which in all fairness was a terrible album for Opeth. lol.
Mikael is a great songwriter, but I doubt he could write an epic like Crimson. :> Yeah, but do you think that more complex equals better? :X And Heritage wasn't that bad.
I'm pretty sure he can. In fact, I'll ask him to make one and prove you wrong when I see him on Saturday =) Not in the least bit! At least all the time, I just think with these two particular musicians we are debating over, complexity is a huge bonus for them, since they are both brilliant musicians. And yeah it was. hahahaahha
:ĐĐ Actually, I like it when people can do something awesome while remaining fairly simple. That's what I love about Devin - his song structures are usually fairly straightforward, he rarely uses highly technical solos or anything, still, his music is some of the best I know. :x Ah come on! Famine is awesome.
As do I! But I still enjoy the complexity of some musicship to be had with musicians that pull it off well. ^.^ Only notable song worth mentioning on that album was I Feel the Dark. That's it lol. I don't like the album cause it was just... Opethless... I found a perfect review of the album that pretty much sums up the words I have for this album:
Meh, you know. :> But you could stop hating on Heritage. It was an absolutely decent record. It won't be by favorite /although, I haven't been a huge Opeth fan before it either/, but it's enjoyable. An interesting find for you:
I understand, but I can't help but hate on it. It's a total....... bah. nvm. Still <3 Opeth to death though. That song was very interesting... liked it a lot. Wasn't expecting the Harsh Vox though hahahaaha. -.-
Hah, yeah, this could go on forever. :x The harsh vocals did surprise me too. And made me like it a lot less. >.> Really interesting song here, barely metal:
It could =P Yeah, actually with that song in particular (and you won't hear me say this often) the harsh vocals made me like it a little less too =X That was a really good song. I like what I have heard from them, Swano and his softy side ^.^
Well savor it while you can, cause it won't happen for another several months I am sure ^.^ Awesome indeed. I wish I didn't have to work today. I really miss my family.
I'll search for songs like that, then. :>> That must suck. :| Look at the upside, though: if you were with your family, you'd miss me! Right? Any music for me?:x
Yes! Do that! Find me songs with harsh vocals that I would rather have them be clean. lol hahaahah totally man. /brohug hhahaahahahahaah kidding! Nah nothing atm. Been in and out of other offices all day. >.< need to sit for once.
I'm not saying it'll be easy... >.< :x Sounds like a boring day. I spent mine mostly listening to Mechanical Poet, some Dan Swanö stuff, plus some Hank 3. Get the album Luna Damien - Muddlewood if you can. Really interesting industrialish metal from MPoet's composer.
I know, but it'll be a good challenge for you, plus I'd like to hear what you will find It has been a boring day lol. That's uhhh.... and interesting choice of music there. hahahahaaha <3 Hank III Really? I will check it out then. I do lack a good selection of Indutrial Metal(ish) stuff. =D
We'll see about it.. Tomorrow? I tend to listen to interesting combinations, don't you think? This still doesn't come close to the Meshuggah - Loreena McKennitt listening. :X Yeah, Hank 3 has interesting music. Have you listened to his albums released this year yet? Meh, you might not consider it totally industrial, that guys makes some hard to describe stuff, but it's definitely good. :>
