What a sin in the melodeath realm I have committed... I forgot to mention the most underrated band in melodeath: Kalisia. The album Cybion sounds more like a melodeath opera, where every song other than the last is connected.
I will have to check that out, then. Sounds decent from the description. :x 30 minutes? I'd get a horrible headache. >.> I'll give it a try, though. See, this is why I hesitated before describing his music as prog - when most people hear that, they think "Oh, so like Dream Theater", and not this kind of stuff:
Amon Amarth are amazing (alliteration's awesome!). Seriously, listen to Twilight of the Thunder God/War of The Gods, as they are so intense. Once you get past the viking references and the fact that all their songs sound the same (not a bad thing tbh) they're a great metal band.
Don't have a whole lot of time to spend on here, but to @gunxsword Judging from some of your favs you posted (I like several of them too, especially Skyfire! Never thought me and Balu` would see another person who likes them) here are some ones to check out. Magical ass shit. Noumena - The End of Century (From their album "The Absense") Be'lakor - Neither Shape Nor Shadow (From their album "The Frail Tide") Fragments of Unbecoming - Sterling Black Icon (From their album "Sterling Black Icon") Check those guys out. Not prominent in the keyboard department, but amazing Melodeath none-the-less. Also, Devin Townsend is amazing.
Haha, yeah, Skyfire was a pleasant surprise there. As for melodeath, Omnium Gatherum really deserves a mention /you'll back me up on this, right Booch?/.
OMG I DIDN'T MENTION KALMAH!!! *Sob*... how careless of me... their guitar melodies are more encapsulating and immersive than most bands, for some superstitious reason... I forgot to mention that I'm also a fan of symphonic death/black metal. Equilibrium's Sagas is my favorite album of my symphonic collection - lots of instruments and epic melodies. Dekadent's album Venera: Trial & Tribulation is one hell of an epic piece of symphonic black metal. WOW! Pretty awesome band right here! [severe personal bias and national pride] Australian band! Melbourne based! (meh... Sydney's better ) Instantly fell in love with the guitar work (before discovering their nationality). BRAIN CRAMP!!! What the hell is this!? I thought the youtube audio quality of the song was to blame, but after some research, it turns out the severe lack of sound quality is the band to blame! Holy $*1+ the sound of the band (or how bad it sounds) is enough to turn me away from their otherwise intense riff feast. Cringe... I didn't (yes... past tense...) and I still don't like the vocalist. I disliked Redshift because the vocals would always knock the guitars out of the play (essentially removing the focus of melodeath). New World Order is much better, but the vocals are still cringe worthy. WHO DOESN'T KNOW AA!? Who, is a melodeath cultist, and doesn't know AA!? I find their earlier albums to be kinda pale and uninteresting compared to their latest two (Twilight and War of Gods). OMG the solo in War of the Gods is insanely addictive.
Kalmah is actually decent, not my favorite. But Equillibrium is great! I would rather call them folk than symphonic, but great nonetheless. A totally random find, intrumentally great, vocally average melodeath:
Kalmah is great! I was going to mention them a little later, but too late! One of my favs for sure. Noumena is fantastic, and have great sound. Wasn't a huge fan of their "Anatomy of Life" album, just cause "Absence" blew me away. Considering they are from Finland, it was a nice shift of Melodeath sound from the standard Finnish Melodeath sound (CoB, Wintersun, Ensiferum, etc.). Yes! There are very few bands that I can think of that come from Australia that actually suck. hahaahaha. And Be'lakor is not one of them. These guys are intense, but have a great melodic sound. Speaking of Aussies, they are by no means Melodeath, but I am sure you have heard of Parkway Drive, yes? Really? The YouTube versions suck bad, sound quality is god awful, I will agree with that. But even with that, I downloaded a couple of their albums, and Sterling Black Icon is amazing. I mean it's really f*cking good. And the sound is just fine really (at least on my copy). But that sucks the quality ruined it for you, they are a great German Melodeath band ^.^ As much as I really did like Redshift and New World Shadows, those were the only two albums from them I really got into. Their older stuff is good, but not as good as NWS. That album was amazing to me, and for a while there was all I could listen to for like a week or two hahaaha. Vocals are... interesting. Not my favourite growls, nor clean vox, but they do the trick, and the guitar work is what turns me on anyways hahaahah. Also, just like with Noumena, it's nice to hear Finnish Melodeath that doesn't sound like the norm. Whoa! Russian Melodeath! What a great f*ckin find dude! I love it! Downloaded that album immediately after hearing that song ahhahaah
Here's a true test on one's mettle of music. if you don't like this, you hate music. Enough said. hahaahahahahaah
Found it on my endless search for stuff like Mechanical Poet. Not too similar to it, though. >.< Giving him Unexpect after a few days? I have a feeling he's going to call us insane. :X
Yeah, I'd have to say they are nothing of the similar sorts. hahaahaha hahaahaha I have a feeling he will call us insane as well. And it might be a little too soon, but hey. Why not right? lmao
Haha, yeah, but I still couldn't find anything like their first album. Closest I got is MP guitarist's new project - Luna Damien, but that's more like industrial metal. Meh, true. At least you didn't give him Deconstruction (the title track). :>
Last week I was living with my mom and family, and got to hang out with my little brother a lot, and I showed him Dev's music and he was like "Is there anything this bastard can't do?" and my simple answer was "No." hahahaaha Also got into several arguments with him and his friends over Dubstep and how it is the close equivalent to sodomizing one's self with a cactus.
Well, good to see he appreciates it. How old is he again?:X That's true. D Though, now that I think of it, dubstep really isn't any worse than shit like grindcore, 'least for me. Did you listen to some Boards of Canada or that Flashbulb album I recommended?
He is 16 years old (I think) lol. He just had a birthday last month, and I think he turned 16. Dubstep is electronic version of grindcore. hahahaahahahah they both are terrible. I listened to Board of Canada, particularly the album "The Campfire Headphase". It was actually pretty damn good. Very interesting music that's for sure. As for the Flashbulb album, I forgot about it :X what was it called again? Also, after 11 years, Aqua released a new album! F*ck yeah!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAAH
So a few months older than me. From what I remember, he's... got a quite different personality. >.< Agreed. ^^ Glad you liked it. The Flashbulb album is Soundtrack to a Vacant Life. The title pretty much sums the mood of the album up, but it seriously is awesome. I'm trying not to oversell it, but it's an amazing mix of ambient, electronic stuff, classical and post-rock. Aqua? Who?
Yeah he is one interesting kid. Musically, very different from you, however you guys seem to have a very staunch stance on school ethics, and keeping out of trouble with drugs and what-not, something I consider the polar-opposite of myself at that time lol. Though he is one talented musician that's for sure, and a better drummer that most of the drummers I know my age hahahaha That does sound really awesome, I will check it out after lunch! hahahaahah if you really don't know them, please don't look anything up on them
Hm, good to hear some people are like me about this. Not that common around here (well, not really drugs, but drinking in pretty.. popular, or whatever the right word is, but you get what I mean :Đ). What kind of music does he like? Sounds good. Go for the whole album, there are some really interesting song on it (30+ songs I think or so). After googling, I do remember them. I'm not happy about this fact, though.
Yeah I mean he has actually dabbled with that stuff a couple times, but thankfully learned that it is not for him. Plus I had to do some convincing on his part to stay away from it. I mean, what better example can I give not to do drugs or drink than me? I'm pretty much a failure as a human being lmao... He actually likes a ton of music, in all genres like myself. But only the basics of each genre. Hard to explain... like... for example: He likes Prog Metal, but only really knows of Dream Theater. That kind of thing. He is more into mainstream stuff, but does listen to a few gems here and there. Unfortunately, he is one of the many kids these days that have fallen victim to the mighty hands of the Dubstep. 30+ songs on one album? F*ck me dude that's awesome. haahahaha hahahahah Best song on the planet right here:
So you still haven't got you optimism back, too bad. :| Anyway, he sounds like a (fairly) good kid. >.< They aren't long ones, but you might've guessed that. :X Since I've heard you like Kesha, I can't help but think you actually love this.
