Ah, I see. I'm curious, what's metalcore, death metal, post hardcore, and hardcore? Those are the main ones I listen to, and they all seem pretty similar.
Thank you!!! I'm getting pretty tired of every single song being labeled into sub genres, then further into sub sub genres, and sometimes even into sub sub sub genres. For me, it falls into one major genre, then a sub genre of either "I like this song/band/album" or "I don't like this song/band/album".
@shiz wiz: I really don't know, as I don't listen to either. :/ @Booch: Waltari is.... Avant-garde death and symphonic metal with techno influences (love me now, Somerandomdude? : D). You should check out their album Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die!. Ehat a great title eh?: D
They are all fairly similar in a way... Metalcore often mixes metal with thrashy punk beats and shit. Usually has a screamer for the vocals, rarely has clean vocals and only on choruses. Like As I Lay Dying and the Devil Wears Prada. Death metal is usually half step tuned guitars with deep growls for vocals and really fast picking guitars and blast beat drumming. Bands that come to mind are like Deicide, Bloodbath, Vital Remains and old Death. Post hardcore is like hardcore punkrock to me. Usually have punkish vocals, not so much growls or anything and usually a cleaner singer with punk beats and semi-fast guitars. Bands in mind are like From Autumn to Ashes, Thrice, and Hawthorne Heights. And hardcore is just the genre that all these fall into. Hope that kind of makes a little sense I am not the best at explaining that stuff hahahah Nice! So k ind of industrial in a way? I love industrial music but I am sure its not like that.
Anyone a fan of Spastic Ink or rather Ron Jarzombek(Spastic Ink, Blotted Science, Watch Tower) in general? He is without a doubt my all time favorite guit-fiddlist due to his creativivity and technical ability. The timing on pretty much any song he's written is mind blowing to me. His drummer brother Bobby is nothing to shake a stick at either.
Either one of the Spastic Ink albums are excellent and the Blotted Science album is phenomenal IMO and it has the bass player from Cannibal Corpse as well so you can't go wrong
It seems that hardly anybody on here likes the same music as me, with all this symphonic/prog/etc metal getting posted Quick poll: Who actually plays an instrument? What type? What genre do you play? I've been playing guitar for about 8 months now and I only know parts of metallica songs right now. I'm probably going to get a new guitar for my birthday/christmas. Anybody have recommendations for ones with floyd rose and active EMG's? So far I've been thinking the ESP LTD MH350FR in black http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-ESP-MH350FR-LIST
more videos the singer for this band died in the tsunami of 04 all these bands are huge in my life except weedeater i just started letting them in after seeing them last year but they are bad ass IMO
That is a nice guitar, ESP LTD's are really nice for thrashy stuff, and you cannot go wrong with EMG's (they are what I use in my Ibanez RG series). But I play instruments, refer to post #167 for details LOL
Yeah, so far the only people I have seen on this thread(I haven't read through every post) that play are you and me lol. Yeah I was looking at the Ibanez RG's, schecter, Jackson, and ESP's. I'm definitely leaning towards that one and I'm trying to find a store that carries it so I can try it.
Schecter Diamond Series is next on my list brotha. As soon as I get a new amp and a Soloman Loop pedal. Upgrading my amp to a Line 6 Halfstack. Have a friend who's brother is going to prison soon and he is selling his shit mega cheap LOL
i have been playing guitar for 12 years and am playing in a sludge/grind band i am 100% self taught and refused to play any cover songs and still refuse to learn riffs and such and that really helped me form my own style and it really payed off im not as good as most 12+ year players in the lead department but i can definitely hold my own in crushing groove infused grind
Nice, I actually have a really good amp I got cheap, went into a guitar center to just get one of those small amps for about $100 that are still way better than the ones that come with starter packs, and I was able to get a used Crate 65-watt that came in that morning for $100
Nice! I still remember riding home in my grandmothers car on top of a Crate bass cab that I bought a decade ago from Mars music. Sucks I ended up selling it and it's head a few years later for a inth of the price... Still can't remember why I sold it other than I was basically done playing bass, but it sure would be nice to have it around just to play with for fun... It wasn't the cleanest sounding amp in the world(at the time I bought it I was lusting after this nice Ampeg amp that I couldn't afford) but for the music I was playing at the time, it fit the bill, monetarily and booming bass-wise.
Play guitar, metallica songs are the most fun to play. I love One, except for the solo. Tooo hard unless you have really long hands
Wha-... What?! You see what I mean about the sub sub sub sub sub sub genres?! GAAAHHH!!! Like I said, all I need are two genres: "Metal" and "Not Metal", or rather "Good" or "Not good". Speaking of which, here's a band I'd throw under the "Good" genre:
Thanks for the chart, but I think I'll stick to just calling it "Metal", then deciding what I like/don't like from there. It just seems like too much work to try to classify each and every song I hear by sub genres. EDIT: Forgot one of Destroy the Runner's best songs... Here ya go:
yea but their are some important differences for instance you wouldn't put ozzy and cannibal corpse together right? and if you listen to cannibal corpse a lot their is a big difference between that and white chapel. it just depends on how much you listen to certain styles that you start to really hear the difference and see the need for sub genres.
