Sweet. I was beginning to regret purchasing all my PSOne Classics on the US store.

Different ways you can go about it. If you're intending on a killing spree, first kill the soldiers (around eight-to-twelve in all). If you have smoke grenades throw them around the tank so you can take out the soldiers with ease. Once the soldiers are out of the way, shoot the front of the tracks of the tank multiple times to bring it to a halt then unleash hell onto it until the tank commander pops out. If the tank is moving around too much for you to get a good hit, shooting the red fuel tanks will bring it to a stop for several moments. For weapons I find Assault Rifles to be best on the tank (along with a good machine gun, or alternatively a shotgun to deal with the soldiers). Rocket Launchers just don't do as much damage per second.

With the sneaking way, as soon as the mission starts run to the right and then straight forward to the abandoned train carriage (the reason you should run to the right is so you are a good distance away from the tanks scope of view when you begin to move ahead). Sneak behind the carriage and you'll now find yourself behind the tank and the soldiers. Tranq gun each soldier and wait until they're all knocked out, then balloon them. After doing so immediately find a hiding spot as four more soldiers will run onto the scene. Repeat traq process until all soldiers are gone. Now, if you manage to do this without being caught the tank commander will immediately pop out of the tank. If you are caught you will have to take three bars of health from the tank before the commander pops out. Either way tranq the commander and not only will you complete the mission but you'll have your very own tank for your base (to which you will later use for merc missions).

This is so great man. Thanks so much. You beat the whole game?
EDIT: Ugh still struggling. The stealth thing is impossible and I always run out of ammo and grenades before I can take down the tank

out of assault rifle ammo. All the soldiers are dead but the tank is at full health. Grenads aren't doing it, neither is C4. Will a tranquilizer gun do anything? Is there any way to win from here? I have 9 grenades and 10
C4 left. Full health, excellent hiding spot, but it's hard to come out cuz the tank is blitzing it

Well, my tactics changed for that tank when I was aiming for S Rank. Do the same, going ahead and right around the abandoned carriage. Wait until they're full walking ahead and then quickly hold up each soldier (start with back left then the back right then the two ahead). They will all surrender to the floor. All you need to do then is fulton them all and the commander in the tank should not have seen you.

It's not over yet, there are six more soldiers left. Immediately run back to that abandoned carriage as you'll see more soldiers running in to take the place of the four you fulton'd. Traq as many of these soldiers closest to you and fulton them. Now run ahead to the tank for the rest of the soldiers. You should still have time to hold each up and fulton before the tank turns around.

Again, do this and the tank commander will pop out of the tank immediately. If the tank commander or the other soldiers spot you you'll need to take three bars of health out of the tank before the commander pops out.

The hold up move is by far quicker than the tranq and wait approach. Easily got rid of the soldiers and a S rank.

As for the game itself, yeah I just finished the story. I've been juggling between story and side missions a lot so I was at 55 hours, yet there is still a shed load of content to play and unlock. Fantastic game, certainly the best of the MGS series. Co-op is excellent.

I was thinking I would pick up the bundle (I don't own a PSP but this game really makes me want to) but when I found out the 3DS will get a Metal Gear Solid game I thought I'd wait it out. Should I go for the PSP or the 3DS?

Wow that's impressive. To hold someone up yo point the gun at their head? And they just drop down? Wow. What controls scheme do you use?

I use shooter setup. I did use Hunter (I live for Monster Hunter and so am accustomed to that control setup) but I found it didn't work as well for MGS.

Holding up is pretty simple once you grasp it. Get behind a soldier and as that orange prompt appears on the screen just raise your weapon. Soldier is then held up and goes down to lie on the ground ready for fulton.

In missions other than the vehicle ones you will need to creep up behind soldiers otherwise they will hear your footsteps. No danger of that with tanks though.

Onto the third boss battle against the unmanned vehicle. Before I start, any tips or advice?

Aha. So instead of CQC'ing, I stick up my gun and they drop down. Useful info
I use shooter as well-I think the controls have been concerted really well considering there's no trigger button or second analog stick

    Unmanned... you mean Pupa?

Don't bother listening to the codec just keep shooting at the AI pod (that big pod with the red illuminated rings around it). As for what to use I find the m16 AR to be useful as well as the M60 machine gun. You may want a rocket launcher in addition to the m16 though, as you can fire once and then keep on the move as you reload.

If you run out of ammo make sure to take the supply marker with you. Throwing that on the ground and then triggering it when it lights blue (with R shoulder button) will send a airborne package of ammo down to you.
