Definitely something on your side. When most(all?) reviewers praise how this is the best looking handheld game EVER in the history of handheld games then yes it might be your screen. I have only played it on a PSP Go screen, which looks a lot better than my PSP Phat's screen by far, but I'm guessing most reviewers aren't playing it on a PSP Go. Not PS1 quality at all, no matter how you look at it, the PS1 was never capable of graphics like these. This game along with a few other PSP games look better than anything the iPhone has ever put out. Whether you actually like the gameplay is a whole other story, as I'm not personally a fan of MGS games, but I can still accept the fact that a handheld game with graphics like these hasn't been made before. Not saying that the PSP is better(than the iPhone) for everybody though just because it has more graphic intensive games(MGSW, GoW, Crisis Core). Just saying...
Well I've played a lot of games on my PSP (I've had one ever since the device was first launched) and the graphics are definately not the best on the PSP (or at least the PSP 2000). It must be something about the older PSPs, (I've had no experience with a PSP Go), but the graphics look pretty grainy, pixelated and have poor quality textures (on the whole). Maybe not quite as bad as PS1, but it feels like somewhere in the middle ground between late PS1 games and early PS2 games (on my PSP 2000). I'd also like to point out that MGS is one of my favourite game franchises ever, from the original to MGS4 I love them all. It's just playing this game on the PSP that seems to be the problem. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe Sony improved the screen with the PSP Go? GTA: LCS and GTA: VCS were some of my favourite games on the PSP, the controls and graphics etc were pretty damn good. edit - I just thought, GTA: VCS looks pretty good on my PSP. It was released before the PSP Go and the graphics looked good on my PSP 2000. Maybe now that the PSP Go is out, Sony are changing the graphics to fit the PSP Go's smaller screen. That could explain why it looks so pixelated to us.
They wouldn't have to change graphics, the smaller screen has the same resolution so obviously all of the pixels are smaller too, thus all games are very slightly sharper looking. I don't know how much difference it makes though.
The problem you all may be experiencing is what we call Ghosting. The 3000 and Go have much faster screen refresh rates than the 1-2000 models. So when there is movement on the 1-2000 models, images blur and may appear pixelated. Especially darker colors, which there are a lot of in MGS: PW. Damn, I think I've spent a good 12 hours playing this game. I'm trying not to skip a beat and do everything I possibly can. I've been hearing reports of 30+ hours of gameplay if you do everything in single player. Thank God I'm on vacation all week.
That makes sense, thanks for sharing Unfortunately I won't be getting an upgrade since my money's going to the iPhone 4
My girlfriend is having the same problem while we play multiplayer (she has a 1000 model). When I sit beside her, there is a notable difference. I can understand your criticisms.
I'm stuck at a part. I'm on the mission where I need to get to the train station. I'm in the coffee factory, but the entrance to the train station is completely cut off! There's a wall between me and it! How do I get to the entrance of the train station?
I'm just going back and reading, and I agree that while the game looks AMAZING for a PSP game, it does have a bit of a grainy look on PSP 1000 and 2000. I'd love to see how it looks on a PSP go, but I don't have the money to buy one, nor do I know anyone with one. And as I've asked before, does the demo support multiplayer? If so, I'd love to play a game with someone sometime.
It is a plastic explosive. You stick it on solid surfaces, turn back and then press the action button again to detonate it. You should have it available for development in the item screen back at the base menu.
And... crap. Even in the full version it's only ad-hoc? I'd love to play this game in co-op, but I don't know anyone with a PSP that would get this game anytime soon. I guess I'll stick to Portable Ops for my online gaming. Can't wait to get Army of Two back from my friend so I can trade it in for this and GTAIII...
FFIX finally coming to the US PS Store this Tuesday, frikkin' awesome. Edit: And yes I know it's offtopic, it's just that I'm ecstatic.
No, but PW more than makes up for lack of wifi play with controls that eclipse PO's a million times. Dude, get Peace Walker. It is the best mobile game ever
