MGSPW is.....in a word, amazing. I have not played anything even close to it. That being said, it is VERY challenging. If you get caught by guards, you're screwed. That only adds to the fun, though. This is, without a doubt, the greatest portable game in history.

    1. When you have 100,000 iPhone games, there are always games that interest you. You're crazy if you think I just frivolously purchase iPhone games. All I purchase are games that are really great, but their gameplay is a couple hours at best.

    2. They are still better than what the iPhone has to offer.

    3. Got 'em

    4. I love games. I'll buy 'em till the day I die. Unfortunately, it's the best consoles that always fall out of existence. Is it my misconceptions of what's a great console and has lasting value? Maybe. But I'd like to think it is the general stupidity of the majority of the population.

    Doing nothing of importance.
    Somewhere
I just want to throw in my 2 cents on that statement.

I actually think that's a big thing I like about the PSP. There's both scaled-down ports (Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Splinter Cell: Essentials, Burnout Legends) as well as full ports (PSOne Classics, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, Mortal Kombat: Unchained, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix), but there are also plenty of original games that are fantastic, like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Ac!d, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Dissidia: Final Fantasy. I think it's this versatility of having both ports and original games that's the real reason I enjoy my PSP so much. It's games like Metal Gear Ac!d, Dissidia, and Burnout that keep me coming back to it much more than my DS.

It seems to me that I have games on both devices that I play a lot, and many that I don't. What I like is the iPod's ability to switch between different games instead of manually putting in a mini dv.

And I know that the PSP Go has something like that, but TBH the Go doesn't really feel nice in my hands, it made an already uncomfortable joystick placement even more uncomfortable.

Man I want this game NOW. I've got a PSP Go and I've played the demo a few times through already.

I'm planning on getting it on Friday >_> Not allowed to get it now.

What guns do you guys use? I go around with the silenced pistol and my stun baton for stealth, the M16 is kinda useless because it makes a lot of noise. The game is awesome, I've never really seen so much content in a PSP game before, not to mention the graphics are great.

I stealth it through and through, haven't killed a single living being.

I normally mix up my weapons though the tranq gun is my primary. I usually alternate between tranq / m16 (the AR does very good damage on vehicles weak spots) and m16 / rpg2 (for the mechs).

I guess it's just me, but I played the demo and thought it was crap. Now before you all start flaming me, I'd just like to say that I enjoyed MGS: PO on the PSP and MGS: PW just feels different. This demo was the reason I took my PSP off the shelf wiped the dust off my PSP and charged up it's dead battery - I haven't used the thing for almost a year.

The graphics seem pretty bad, maybe it's just because I have gotten used to playing iPhone games with sharper crisper graphics, unlike this games grainy, rough graphics. And then there's the controls. I'm pretty sure the controls are the same as MGS: PO, maybe slightly different. But I was definitely struggling with them, although I found MGS: PO to be quite easy to play (back when I actually played it and didn't have an iPhone). I suppose I am now used to touch/tilt controls, but going back to pressing buttons seems horrible - especially turning the camera with the face buttons, and also the analogue nub seems too sensitive.

I think it's a great shame that there aren't many devs making big games for the iPhone, when I was playing this game, I realised that I would love to play it on my iPhone - with better graphics and probably better controls (swiping to look and virtual joystick for movement). Just my opinion, but I feel like my PSP is now pretty inferior, it used to be my favourite gaming platform. RIP PSP.

edit - Another thing I'd like to mention is how much I hate the PSN store at the moment. Sony seem to be pretty damn greedy. They often charge full prices for full games, when there isn't any packaging costs and you can't trade it in afterwards. Another thing that annoys me is that you have to add money to your "wallet" before you buy stuff. You are often left with small amounts of money that you can't buy anything with. And one last complaint is that their "minis" are overpriced. Earlier today I had £1.04 left in my wallet, so I searched the store for things I could buy. They only had 2 "minis" games which were £0.99, out of the 70 odd total, many of which were £3.99 when on the App Store they would be much cheaper. And one last thing, a while ago I bought C&C: Red Alert, I went to download the game and found that I didn't have enough space. There was nothing in the description to tell me that it was like 2GB, I had to go and buy a bigger memory stick just to play the damn game. /rant

Sure it's not just 'cause it was raining? Looked good to me, after the training section, the level of detail is pushing beyond anything I've seen on iPhone.

There were a bunch of price reductions on PSP games today... maybe 6-8 games or so went down to under half price permanently. Slightly annoying as I paid full price 4 days ago but never mind.

Oh, and the wallet thing is only for purchases under £5. If a game costs £12.99 or something you can add exactly £12.99.

OK. For starters, the analog stick sensitivity can be adjusted.
You have got so used to touch controls that you don't enjoy buttons anymore? TBH, I don't understand how you do that-a touch screen provides you with one way to interact with the game: sight . When buttons are brought in though, you can also interact using the sense of touch. Buttons are something you can feel, something much more natural than a screen. Buttons are the reason why people prefer a real keyboard to a virtual one. It's really quite surprising to me that you hate button controls-usually, if people hate anything, it's the touch screen for its flat, unresponsive nature.
Bad graphics? Please man, point out one iPhone action game that has better graphics than this. I didn't notice any "graininess" you were referring to- the graphics were clean, crisp, and IMHO, the best graphics ever on a mobile device (barring Crisis Core).
As for the controls-yes, they are tough. But part of the fun is adapting to them, and learning how to use them successfully. They are not clunky, or awkward-they are merely difficult to get used to. Once you get used to them though, the game is a blast
Saying the PSP is inferior to the iPhone is a very odd argument. Some say that the iPhone gets you more bang for your buck-not true. Let me give you an example-can we all agree that there is no better platformer on the iPhone than Daxter on the PSP? I doubt anyone will disagree with that, and if they do, I would be happy to debate. Daxter has so much depth, great graphics, great humor, awesome controls, etc. I found a used copy of it at Gamestop for $3. Yes, $3. It was in PERFECT working condition-the UMD was not even scratched. Most iPhone platformers cost more than that! So no, the PSP offers great deals. The PSP also has higher quality games than the iPhone ever will have. God of War, Crisis Core, now Metal Gear PW, just to name a few. The iPhone will likely never catch up to the PSP's gaming brilliance.
Sorry for the rant. I'm not trying to flame you-but please, if you have a PSP, buy MGSPW. You'll love it once you get used to it. It's the greatest mobile game ever

Like I said I sold mine a while ago, so a bunch of these games weren't around. I remember RS: Vegas. I bought it for the PSP after I had bought and played it on the xbox 360. Wow, I didn't like it at all. Part of it probably having to do with it being compared to the xbox 360 version (since I played it right before). Also I have a DS (didn't sell it) and it had a lot more (and better) games.

    @ Fruho

What I meant to say was that the analogue stick itself (not the game) was too sensitive. By "too sensitive" I mean that it feels more digital than analogue (i.e - it's always on or off). Maybe it's just me being clumsy but I have trouble (especially with this game) trying to adjust the analogue stick in a direction in small movements. The stick just feels too small to operate precisely, whereas I feel that a virtual on-screen joystick allows for finer adjustments and better overall control - in my opinion.

Regarding the graphics, my PSP must be broken lol. The graphics looks pretty bad, probably PS1 quality. I've noticed that A LOT of PSP games I've played look "grainy" and the textures look bland. It's hard to explain but if you look really closely at the screen you can see little pixels in + shapes which then repeat themselves to form a pattern. I don't know if it's the way that these games are made or what, but most iPhone games look sharper to me, although they are often more simple. I probably should of mentioned this earlier, but I am using a PSP 2000, did Sony change anything with the screen for the 3000 and PSP Go? That could explain why I am seeing these pixels so clearly.

And when I said "I feel that my PSP is now inferior", I did mean "I feel that my PSP is now inferior". I'm not trying to say that the PSP is inferior to the iPhone, I'm just saying that (in my opinion & from my experience) I now prefer to play games on my iPhone (and everything else is much better IMO such as music, videos, internet etc) and that is making my PSP feel inferior, verging on useless. And that is why my PSP hasn't been used recently and will probably never be used again. I'm sure many people prefer the PSP to the iPhone, and that's fine. Sorry, maybe I should have made it clearer that I was just stating my opinion.

@ MidianGTX - I played the demo all the way through to the end and I still think the graphics look pretty bad. Hold the PSP at arms length away and it looks alright, but when I play it normally I can see the pixels really clearly and it annoys the hell outta me. Thanks for the info about the PSN store, It must have changed quite a bit as I owned my PSP 1000 before the PSN store and I was using my PSP less as the PSN store was introduced. My complaints about the PSN store are based on my experience from the older PSN store, now I see that they have fixed some of the problems.

I remember that game. It was alright, the controls weren't very good (FPS games just don't work on the PSP, in my opinion), but at least the online multiplayer was kinda fun. But then I went and played the PS3 version and it was so much better.

I hope you realize that how 'good' games are not facts. They're simply opinions. If a game is 'good' enough that opinion will be shared by a lot of people.

Maybe to your neighbor Daxter is worse than Soosiz? Or Crisis Core didn't appeal to your teacher, yet Doodle Jump did? LBG thinks Gameloft games are great, I think they're not very good. Who's right?
Also regarding that once-in-a-life-time sale. Do you really see a sale like that come along...more than once a year? iPhone games go free daily (literally). You can't get more bang for the buck.

The opinion is shared by a lot of people. Daxter is one of the select "Greatest Hits" for PSP-it's obviously quite popular.
But your right-I was wrong to use the terms "better" and "worse". Instead, I should say that Daxter is a higher quality game than Soosiz. Crisis Core is a higher quality game than Doodle Jump. That justifies in a price tag....which is not "once in a lifetime". Crisis Core is $17. Chaos Rings is $13. Only a 4 dollar difference, and you get so much more quality in Crisis Core. Better graphics, more depth, gameplay that is not repetitive, and what is commonly acknowledged as one of the greatest storylines in video game history. WAY more bang for your buck.
And the games that drop free are usually crap. True, there are those occasional gems that you snap up (ahem Sword of Fargoal) but mostly the free games don't match the quality of the PSP.
Not to say that there aren't great deals on the App Store. Space Miner, Phoenix Wright, GTA, the list goes on. But I'm just saying that the misconception that PSP games don't deliver as much for your dollar is false

Alright well I was writing a giant paragraph about how you are actually getting more bang for your buck playing a shitload of free games for the same amount of time as MGS, but I think it'll make everyone mad since it involves dividing by zero.

I still think PSP blows though. (Due to controls, lower accessibility, and my opinion on it's games)

You're right, maybe it's just because I have the first PSP but the graphics seem really grainy compared to my iPod. When I look at the display the pixels look oversized and blocky.

I'm also liking touch controls much more than the PSP. For something like an Xbox it's meant to have a controller, but the PSP is a portable device trying to give a PS2 experience.

That being said, i'm really enjoying GTA:Vice City Stories on my PSP.
