Different markets, different markets, different markets. iPhone/touch = mobile platforms PSP (and DS) = portable game systems Comparing them directly is like comparing PC sales directly to video game console sales, which, even though there's a sizable market for games on PC, no game industry analysis firm really ever does. Remember, the vast majority of those buying a DS and PSP buy them SOLELY for games, because, well...that's the market to which those two products cater by design. iPod touch/iPhone, on the other hand, well...there's a large segment of iDevice owners who NEVER buy games or play games on their devices...EVER.
And MGSW...the demo at least, has surprised me. I thought it was going to be another one of those PSP games that are too much like home console experiences, and because of that not really all that fitting of a portable game system. But it's more pick up and play than the home console MGS games, which is good. Kojima Productions understands the differences between the portable and home video game system markets.
The only reason I won't buy it right away is because I still need to beat the third and fourth games, as well as the first PSP one. I want to get those out of the way, in the order Kojima brought them out, before I play Peace Walker.
Doesn't Peace Walker take place directly after 3? I'd play it right after that, except... I won't because 3 is terrible.
I'll pretend you didn't say what you said about the third game being terrible, but again... I want to play the games in the order they were released. Kojima had a reason for releasing them in the order he did, and I'm going to respect that by playing them in the order they were released: Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid 2 Metal Gear Solid 3 Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Metal Gear Solid 4 Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Ya' dig?
Yeah, the reason being he thought of a bit of story, then he thought of another bit and went back to fill it in
Man, I've been dying to get this since I'm a HUGEEE Metal Gear fan, but instead of saving my $40, I spent $10 on Red Dead Revolver. I'd be kicking myself if it wasn't such a good game, but I'm enjoying it. I'll just wait until I get Army of Two back from my friend so I can trade it in. Unfortunately, due to the Red Ring, I can't trade in the Wii version of COD4 just yet. Simply put, as soon as I can I'll be buying and playing this game extensively.
That's how a lot of storytellers work, so it really doesn't bother me. I will still follow the release order, thank you very much
Dang, It says it updated yesterday. Bull. Thanks for the heads up, I was just waiting for the usual evening update. Now for the hour+ long download.
Yeah, I think I'll try to do the same this summer. I always enjoy Metal Gear (well, besides Touch), and I have the first 3 games (unfortunately don't have PS3, so I can't get MGS4), so I'll do a runthrough of those, then Peace Walker once I get that. And while we're on the Metal Gear PSP topic, does anyone have either Portable Ops game that wants to play online sometime? I've been trying to get an online game, but unfortunately couldn't find a game when I tried.
I really would, but the MP looks so good from the videos I've seen (for PW), that it seems like it'll be a chore to go back. Add me as a friend on here though and we'll try to set something up.
Sounds good. I have Portable Ops Plus, so either game would be fine. And can you play multiplayer in the Peace Walker demo? Because if so, I'd prefer to play that online.
lol good one. You even said idevice games rip us off. Yep, 2.99 for a game like Hook Champ is a ripoff.
So this was a hard 5 min break to take. Peace Walker is definitely in a completely different league when it comes to portable gaming. It's not that $2.99 is a rip-off, it's 6.5 $2.99 games that it becomes a rip-off. The games are so easy to forget and never play again. With a lil research and playing a few demos, you can find games on the PSP that you could play for years. There are a lot of great games on the iPhone, but a lot lose their replay value really fast. After two years and several hundred dollars spent on iPhone games, there is probably only $60 worth of games that actually remain on my iPod. But I've spent a comparable amount on my PSP and definitely still play at least $200 worth of games (Well more like $240 today).
1. Improve your buying skills and research iphone games too. Obviously you don't put as much thought into buying iphone games as you do PSP games. 2. PSP games bore the shit out of me. They're all scaled down ports of bigger, better games. I sold mine a while ago. 3. Get a PS3 or Xbox360
