Awesome job getting the game of the week Phenomenon! This is fantastic! I hope this gets a 5 star review as well, it definitely deserves it! If only everyone with an iDevice checked TA...
Been hesitant on buying this all week. Said screw it once it got gotw and I'm having a freaking blast. Best dual stick I've ever played. Something is so unique about it but I can't put my finger on it. Very glad I got it.
Could use more incentive to continue playing past level 54(55)...maybe remove the level cap, add daily challenges, item rewards, weapon upgrades...dunno, i love the game and the gameplay but sooner or later it is just repeating the same level for nothing more than recognition on a leaderboard with a buncha Android cheaters...
Yeah it would be cool if the achievements had tiers like Infinity Blade 3's goals. Then an increased level cap would be awesome too.
Only crash I've had on my mini so far is if I try to join a game. Like everytime, but I've had others join mine.
I give up... I had some people join my game yesterday and I was super happy. But aside from that I see people trying to join my game that can't get in. And then I've also spent 30-1hour trying to join ONE game and got none of them to work. Good thing I was doing stuff on my laptop as well instead of just spending all my time trying to connect.
Now at lvl 46. This is really an awesome game and deserve the game of the week. I am pretty sure the grenade+rocket combo will be the best after the rocket get fixed. Also hope that the crashes get fixed regarding joining other people game. Initially it was fine but now I get more n more crashes trying to get into other games. Probably too many people playing this and somewhere get overload? I also notice the batt drys very fast haha. Awesome
Congrats! I am the Football Heroes developer and we also released this week. I wanted to congratulate you on the GOTW Award. I am having a blast playing it and I think it is one of the best controlling games on the iOS. I am super impressed by the Art Direction, the confidence and polish. Meltdown@ is easily one of the best iOS game released this year and is my favorite game of the week. Great Job! And thanks for the killer game.
This is sure an odd game in some ways. Let's face it, the environment is extremely cookie cutter, and yet it doesn't seem to be a real problem. I am not sure why mid 80's Chev vans are parked on a space platform, but... The melee rules are obviously tied to being right next to an enemy, which works pretty well unless you are cornered badly. I can see why the wouldn't want another button, most of the time the two button setup works quite well but if you are that close to an enemy wouldn't it make sense to have the fire button swap to a melee action? The cover system never really gets used, unless you have a rocket fired straight at you and you can duck very quickly - although rolling out of the way is usually the better option. Too bad, because the cover implementation is really good. The slick graphics style is what makes this game so cool. It is almost like a smooth Lego theme, with nearly cell shaded colours to everything. Definitely a stand out app, and I will definitely be buying it for my Note 2 as well. I hope this game sells well, these guys deserve some bank to fund their next project.
Heh, I just realized this game has regenerating ammo. Can someone name one other game where you had limited ammo that regenerated? I mean, there has been weapon overheating on infinite ammo many times, but you can quite easily run out of ammo in this game. Neat concept.
Maybe someone has already speaked about that, but it's so bad from Bulkypix to try to sell their games abroad with a higher price. 1 dollar is 1 euro for them, and i think it's unacceptable, so i'll pass this one. I was very interested, but i'm not a milk cow (we say that in belgium, we can also say that we don't want to be a pigeon ). I don't understand why european are supposed to be richer than americans... It's absurd.
Dude you can NOT pass this up! This one of the best games of the year And this game made it to the top 150! It's #143 on the US AppStore!
Game Impressions Okay, so here's my review of the game. The action element feels great - it feels almost like Minigore was adapted into an 80's "shoot the mainframe!" kind of ordeal, but with semi-RPG progression. The progression feels pretty good, by the way - I went down the middle tree and I'm having a lot of fun with it, but some skills aren't explained very well - for example, Fury tells you that you'll gain +1/2/3% critical increase for killing an enemy, but neglected to tell me that this bonus stacks - making it a very good three points. I do wish the trees did a better job of allowing me to avoid skills I don't want to take, but it's as simple as "you need to max out the last skill in a tree to get the next skill." EXP seems to come at a pretty decent rate; I would say double EXP isn't a necessary purchase. The weapon progression systems are very interesting. Each weapon has six skills, and the progression is very Borderlands-esque - each line of the tree is six possible points, and three points needs to be spent to go to the next tree - so, take 1/2, or 2/1, or even 3/3 and skip the second line of the trees to get to the last...it's here that I really think they give you some freedom, and it's very tactically done. For the SMG, you can choose between not having it overheat as fast, or regenerating ammo; dealing more damage or firing much faster (the latter of which far exceeds the damage boost in %, but you need to contend with overheating); and then, finally, having explosive rounds or having rounds that don't generate heat. Cool choices! The only thing I wish was that there were some more explanations - do explosive rounds deal more damage to my target, or do they just deal splash damage (or both)? For upgrading a weapon, you need an increasing amount of chips (random drop, pretty fair drop rate) and gold. I will say that, to upgrade and buy new weapons at a fair pace, the gold doubler seems necessary. I have it, and the rate at which chips drop and which I accumulate gold seem to be roughly even in terms of weapon upgrade progression. That being said, I'm fine with that, as the quality of this game is more along the lines of a $5 game than a $2 one. Now, of course, the gameplay. It's surprisingly tactical - some enemies are turrets that spawn with shields, and you can either shoot until you break their shield (while they're shooting at you) or try to outmaneuver them. The addition of cover can help both you and your enemies. One enemy in particular hides behind cover and throws grenades - but you get access to a grenade launcher, so you can share in that fun too. Additionally, you can melee enemies for an AoE attack and decent damage, and any enemy killed in this fashion will give extra EXP, which is a really nice touch. There's a dodge roll without any cooldown, too. The game is generally pretty fast-paced - just enough for you to plan out what you're going to do as the fight goes on, but in the more serious firefights you'll need to watch your step and tactics. Also, there's a "generate me a level!" option, which I've had a lot of fun running - sometimes the main missions become too tough until you've ranked up more, so this is a welcome addition. The downside to this game, in my opinion, are the controls. The default control option (tap to move to a location, hold down a line past your enemy to melee) didn't feel very intuitive. The virtual button option felt more along my tastes, but the dodge and melee actions share a contextual button - which means that, sometimes when I'm trying to melee an enemy, I'll end up rolling past them, to the point where it's three to four dodge rolls before I finally just pull out my plasma cutter. A separate button needs to be added. Additionally, melee seems to be the unloved little brother of game mechanics here - which is a shame, because it's so much fun and so rewarding. Melee damage, even with a % damage boosting skill, just doesn't seem to be worth the risk starting around level 20. My guns deal so much more damage, and some enemies deal too much close range damage for melee to be worth trying for - not to mention, I can't just roll around in a firefight to try and melee one enemy. Melee weapon numbers need to be reevaluated. Additionally, melee weapons just don't carry any "wow!" factor aside from the plasma cutter (which, by the way, looks AWESOME). The next one I unlock is a fireman's axe, and then the last, ultimate unlock...is a wrench. Those don't really excite me too much - I would advise to explore a little more the path along the lines of the plasma cutter in terms of melee weapon design. I give the game 4/5 stars. It's one of the best apps I've purchased since Mage Gauntlet, but could use some clarification in various skill and upgrade texts (raw numbers are the best possible thing to give me!) and more attention needs to be paid to the melee aspect, because it is a lot of fun but is ultimately discouraging in many ways.
I love this game but get your poop together devs! On both the latest iPod and the iPad 4 this game lets me play about 3 missions and then it crashes every time I try to play it after that. Not cool to pay for a product that is busted like that.
And then you realize you have unlimited ammo so you 1-hit everything with cluster rockets/grenades/double bolt xbows. Hope they add really meaty mobs in future missions to make the flamer/shocker worth bringing along. Swipe to dodge and incentive to get 3 stars please
For those who think the cover system is never used just wait. When you get into the later levels and play them by yourself because no one else will you join your game for fear of dying, you'll use cover quite a bit. In fact I find myself going from cover point to cover point through out the entire level now due to enemy weapons that wipe out your shield or health bar quickly. I used 5 extra lives on level 20 before I figured this out. Now I can cruise through the later levels without taking too much damage. IMO the game is just fine how it is. I can't wait for more content. I hope they don't ruin the game trying to please everyone who has spent less than 30 minutes playing and hours complaining or nitpicking the details. IMO its a well constructed game with nearly perfect gameplay balance. Just a few bug fixes here and there and this is game of the year for me.
