Actually the sequencer is a bit gimmick-y, so don't get too excited! The real gift of Melodive is the flight-skill you develop on your way to becoming a Melodive Master, i just thought it would be cool for people to have direct access to the underlying music engine. Then you could make your own theme song, which is nice. But like the interface, it's a bit clunky. I hope to imporve on it the future. Right now it is very basic, but it get's the job done (at least on the ipad). I am open to ideas on how to improve the sequencer if anybody have any ideas. I am not a musician myself, just needed some sound for my game, and then one thing led to another! Also just a quick reminder for those of you fed-up with the in-game music: You can play music from itunes and then launch Melodive and turn off the in-game music by touching the small pixelated note in bottom right corner. I will release different soundpacks as IAP in the future.
Great Idea on the iTunes, but I think I'd prefer the IAP (wow did I just say that out loud). It's just that the music is intrinsic to the gameplay.
I'll be honest, while I thought the idea was neat and innovative, I didn't expect to like Melodive when I bought it. I'm happy to say I was pleasantly disappointed. First couple of times playing this I was thinking I made a bad purchase. I tweaked the controls several times (thanks for that!) and really started to enjoy it and the challenge it offered. I turned the lights off, put on headphones and got lost in this strange world. It's a very beautiful and eerie world. I love the music and the evolving music creates a wonderful atmosphere. Nice work! I definitely would recommend this.
I had an awesome flight last night. I flew down past 13,000 meters, and scored 1,380,322 while on the "newb" settings Now I need to put on big boy pants and learn heavy gravity
I would buy sound packs as well. It would add to the longevity of the game. Perhaps in future updates we could get more objects in the world that alter the environment and music? Maybe some more incentives for exploration as well? I think you have a brilliant game here that has a lot of potential for growth.
Yes I agree, the feature is there because it was easy to do and some people asked for it. I do hope of course that not many people use it!
Thank you, and thanks a lot for tweeting about Melodive! I hope more people will tweet about this game as they start to get deeper and deeper into it. I am @melodive on twitter and would love more followers! It's still hard to get people to notice this game even if it's featured by apple and it gets a lot of glowing user reviews. The more momentum this gets the more I will be able to expand and evolve Melodive. Good point about the dimmed lights and headphones. Adds a lot to the experience. Also 6.1.x is a must because of reverb (5.x also works, but not 6.0.x).
LoL - Great Game!!! And thanks for making us feel apart of it... Developers like yourself give their game a sense of community!!!
Everything is possible, but I am only one man. I hope that Melodive will gain the attention of developers/studios with vision so that this technology can come to good use. I see the potensial for many games, and I would love to add for instance multiplayer in Melodive (dive together with a friend), my resources are just too limited at the moment. Also a sandbox would be great so people could have their own little worlds to fly around in. Could be pretty neat, especially combined with multiplayer. But now I am dreaming.
This is at the moment a tiny game, so I can afford to answer everybody. It is something I enjoy very much! I am looking for a market for immersive gaming on iOS, with controls like in Melodive. I beginning to think it might be one and I would love to make games for that market. I need people spreading the word for me, showing other people this game and how to play it. I truly believe it can become big over time even though I didn't think so before releasing. Also it's very good to get feedback from the players and here I can answer back, something I can't do in the appstore! Later tonight I will post a short tutorial-video on how to play the game and how to get high-scores in the millions.
That would be awesome! Have you thought about spinning off the engine to other developers? What kind of games do you for-see..?
I am looking for strategic partnerships so this can be taken up into the mainstream. I have at least 10 diffrent game ideas, i would love to explore multiplayer for instance. I think building and destroying at the same time have a lot of potensial. Other than that I feel skydiving, diving, skiing, paragliding, hanggliding is not being represented as they could be in the appstore. I hope that Melodive can show that it is possible to make immersive 3D-games on a small screen.
Well, let's see this climb the charts & make that a reality Also, the more activity on this forum the better
Yes, I actually think Melodive is doing amazingly well. It has probably helped a lot to be featured by Apple (kudos to Apple for supporting something as crazy as this!). I see that iPhone-figures are going down, while iPad is holding steady for the moment. There is also some gifting going on, which I think is super nice. It's just so crazy to see that something you've been working on for years suddenly is for everybody to see and critic. Thankfully most of the feedback has been extremely positive. I hope I am not oversharing now.
That's real good! It's nice when you start getting scores in the millions, and it's great for me to see that people actually improve in this game. Did you see Abbey's latest score? 111 million. Crazy guy. Let's see if somebody can rise to the challange! He's my first beta-tester, so he has had about a year's advance of practice. I try to stop him from competing, but it's not easy! He is probably even better than me. I hope this doesn't stop people from trying to get the highscore. It just takes time to get this good... Also here is a review from Singapore from my new friend Ian Low discussing the arcade nature of Melodive: http://sirloinapple.blogspot.sg/2013/03/michelin-game-melodive.html
Thank you! Now that this screen is out of the bag i just want to mention my inspirsation for this. It's the amazing documentary "Ecstacy of order, the Tetris masters": http://ecstasyoforder.com This is a must watch!
Is it possible that in a future update you could change the sequencer to include a grid separating the instruments and steps to make creating our own music to fly around to easier? Maybe add some more instruments to it as well? I'd be willing to pay for more drums and/or instruments. Maybe redesign the sequencer and have IAP for more sounds? It's hard to program anything on this iPhone screen with the way the sequencer is designed. I haven't unlocked it or played this on the iPad yet so not sure if its easier to do there.
