Great tip, I didn't know. I emailed him about it. Let's hope that it was him (didn't deny when I asked him) and that he does the right thing. Thankfully there has been only 3 problems I know of, all resolved, and people are even running Melodive on unsupported devices and being happy as clams! Thanks for chipping in, it was real helpful!
My only concern with this particular setup is being able to just go zero gravity and cruise to high scores. You said something about a negative multiplier if someone is below current heavy gravity, so are you going to indicate this someway in the game? If so, how? If you use the same sliders you used for speed, boost and handling then you could put some kind of indicator along the bar or something. Were you planning something like that?
Yes, I was totally mesmerized by Descent! I was thinking of doing a similar thing, but with mining and destructable terrain! But my experimentation with closed caves was not good for my claustrophobia. Funny you should mention Magic Carpet, I was tweeted by Glenn Corpes today: "Best new iOS game for a while: @melodive. Well, maybe not if you cant see beyond a cute story & 3-starring levels ". That's cool! Thank you so much for leaving a review, it haven't showed up yet, but from I remember it takes some time for them to do. It just occurred to me that they all get screened probably. There is no "report review"-button. I am getting killed in charts since the 1-star review. Hopefully it's not connected.
Even at zero gravity, things will speed up a lot, and it's no benefit to have zero gravity at high speeds because you will bounce all over the place! The more gravity you have the tighter it will be. But just to make sure I will test it out of course. We wouldn't want that exploit getting in. I am also considering a slight "Mean speed" bonus: 1.003^(mean speed). That would translate to about 2X at 250 km/h. Opinions on this is most welcome. I cannot decrease the Melodium scoring but I can tweek the speed-bonus a bit by switching to a expotential scale. But I cannot tweek it too much, because we'll be pushing one billion!
I'm getting an heart-attach just from watching the trailer, intense stuff! Love the flaming asteroids! All games should have them. Melodive had them for a brief period of time but they just didn't fit. But one day I will make a game featuring a volcano and then there will be a lot of flaming rocks!
I got the score on the iphone. I probably won't actually get an ipad until the next gen comes out hopefully next month. But I am still undecided as to whether I'm going to get one.
I think Melodive is reason enough! Either that or a hdmi-connector + projector. Has any of you guys tried this yet? It's a lot of fun on the big screen.
I would say that is the understatement of the year. You wrote the best review ever! Man you are good. I'm inclined to steal it and use it for the app description! It's really that good. Even I wanted to download now!
I got confused, your review was very nice, but somebody beat you to it. Who is this guy?! Do you want to know what it is? ★★★★★ by B. Hutzler - Version 1.0 - Mar 20, 2013 The Tuniverse is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see, hear, and feel it when you play "Melodive" with your favorite headphones. Learn to fly at supersonic speeds, and explore the depths of an endless, evolving world of music and color. Effortlessly and intuitively soaring through the mushroom-festooned landscape, interacting with flowing Melodium crystals, is a truly liberating videogame experience. Unfortunately no one can be told what "Melodive" is. You have see it for yourself. Download it now. B. Hutzler? Sounds fishy! Anyhow great review! 1.1 update is finished, being tested as we speak. I am going to request expedited review since it's featured by apple. Hopefully they will agree. I am postponing the localization of Melodive since I really want to get this update out as soon as possible.
I only sunmon you Connector, because the other genie on this forum, Adapter is a troll! Thanks for dropping by, did you check Melodive out with your ...?
I just wanted to drop a quick line and say that I'm so thrilled that Melodive has found an audience, however niche it may be. My doubts regarding the long-term health of the AppStore are many, but the fact that Melodive is precisely the experience I'm looking for, and now its subsequent reception and success, I can't help but feel a little bit more relieved that the platform I love hasn't been utterly consumed by the F2Play Monster... Yet. Also, apologies for taking so long to get in on the conversation, I really wish my day to day life allowed for more forum posting, it is a great regret. Anyway, to make it up to you, gjestland, I posted a review on iTunes, here it is: A masterpiece of simplicity and beauty. Entirely convincing, and just as engrossing, as another world, real or imagined. Distinct in it's boldness, a direct indication of just how special an experience this is. Another tiny (but huge) victory in the glut of AppStore mediocrity. While this title certainly isn't for everyone, the believers will be thoroughly rewarded with an experience unlike any other.
Just Followed you and Tweeted a "come-on" to my massive Twitter-verse... OK, it's not so massive, but hey, every bit helps, right? DBC
Yes, it actually does. Melodive needs to travel from person to person foremost and cannot rely on being "impulsed" on the appstore. So this chatter is extremely important. I wish I had realized this before, I would have signed up to twitter years ago.
Well, well Melodive is super tiny, and the fight is not over. Sold only 200 copies yesterday, but I am happy with that as long as the trend is upwards in the longterm. If Melodive is to succeed it will be because of the community effort being done here on TouchArcade. I think that has been very important and will continue to be in the future. Wow, that's nice words. Of this whole experience, what I value the most are the anonymous words of the reviews in the appstore and the things said here in the forum. I never thought anybody would get Melodive and today, only two weeks afte release, there are 64 Melodive Masters in the world and even those who doesn't get the game, are having a blast. I couldn't be more happy about how this turned out, and I too have gotten a little more faith in things.
I don't suppose people are running it succesfully on an iPad 1 or iPhone 3GS? I would definitely buy it if I could play it (and review it on the Dutch appstore where there are currently zero reviews) even though this doesn't seem like the kind of game I'd usually play. Genre-bending games from indie devs are why I still love iOS gaming (and why I'm following a thread for a game I can't play). BTW, I like that you specifically mention in the App description that it is non-violent and suitable for all ages.
I am thrilled Melodive is getting more attention, I would LOVE to see this title make it into the top 100 in the app store.
