That's curious, because on my iTouch 2g, it seems I have to shake it normally before it will recognise it. Maybe it's more sensitive to being tilted than being accelerated?
Hmmm... Actually Im not so sure anymore. Sometimes I am sure that i and my iPhone is not moving, but yet I cant get any of the cells to be pressed. I shake a few times and try again and it works.. Is my iPhone not working properly or something? Edit: Okay, I discovered that when I tilt my iPhone flat (screen is facing up) (or when it is already flat), it will continuously reset. Anyone else have this problem?
Just to let you know that the shake sensitivity is already being worked out and it will be tweaked in our next update. To all Melodica lovers, please support us by leaving a good review in the appstore . Thank you!
OOOOh such a long thread. Wtf! Great app, great price point, should be a hit. Looking forward to the update.
Calm down, I actually have some things I am trying to get done right now and can use the extra time. You never know what people are doing at the moment on forums so just imagine the worst scenario. Maybe I just wrecked my car and need to get a very quick iPhone gaming fix.
If you just wrecked your car, the last thing you should be doing is surfing the web, posting on forums, and playing iPhone games.
You never know.....Its an addiction for me, like gambling, only worse. People turn to addictions sometimes when they are stressed. But no, I didn't really wreck my car
Could this, in a feature update, link with intuas' beatmaker. Now that would be smart. BTW, the quality of sound seems excellent and the overall appearance is great. Updates will make it even better.
Tatuman, it looks like you've come up with a cool app, and for $1, it's a no-brainer. My only concern is that other similar apps (e.g., PaklSound1, SynthPond) can do so much more. Could you answer a couple of questions (might be of interest to other potential/existing customers) 1. Is this app actually done in conjunction with, or the approval of, André Michelle? 2. Is there any plans to change the tempo? If so, will duration of notes change accordingly, or can the user change pitch? 3. Is there any plans to change pitch (e.g., octave up/down)? 4. How about adding a layer for other sounds like percussion? Thanks for joining in the forums. I'm sure that we all appreciate devs like you!
Yes, that's what I'm interested in. For now Melodica has better sounds, but PaklSound is way better, in terms of features. And...why do you call it "game"? It would be more appropriate to consider it as a "music" app.
Hi, Glad that you liked it, but the props should go to our 4 developers and amazing designer that worked day and night in order to make the sound and animation work correctly. Paklsound has more features, yes, but you can not really do any real music with it, at least something that sounds good to my ears . With Melodica anything sounds like music. So regarding your questions: 1. No, we dont have any involvement with Andre or Yamaha the creators of the Tenori-on, even though we shared it with Andre since we think he will probably like the app. 2. In 1.1 you will be able to change the speed of the loop, I personally like it a bit faster too 3. No plans for that atm. 4. We praise for simplicity, so it is not in our current roadmap to add more instruments to Melodica even though since many ppl are asking for it we might put it in . We are now more focused on the sharing and saving features. Melodica is intended to be a casual music app, not a professional tool for music artists. But suggestions are always welcome! Thanks so much for your feedback so far!
* - PaklSound has 3 different intruments: melody, bass and drums. It's more like music than Melodica, even if melodica has a really good sound (but only one). Actually/technically, PaklSounds is more like Tenori-On, so it's not a good idea to compare these two softwares. 1. How do you know? 2. Good news 3. Change pitch would make it more useful, for an instrument. 4. Even PaklSound has a layer for percussions and you said we can't do any music with this. I actually make some music with PaklSound percussions and my guitar. In general, I think that two additional layers would make Melodica a really interesting app, even for musicians. It wouldn't be a professional tool, but it could stimulate most of us. I just think it would make it better. Hard to say no. Cool. K.
So it sounds like Melodica is planning on sticking to the "everything is in the same scale... so everything sounds nice together" plan - which is cool, as it does work, but it's more limiting & "idiot proof" or "random-friendly" (meant in a nice way, not calling anyone idiots!). It also sounds like adding more will basically make it more similar to PaklSound1, which is already a more professionally-oriented music app (e.g., minors, up-time & down-time, etc.). I'll probably get it anyway, but it'll be interesting to see which I use more!?
Besides being really unprofessional and making you sound like a jerk, this distorts the situation pretty severely. Anyone who wants to "actually make music" should strongly consider Paklsound over Melodica, for the simple reasons that it has multiple voices and more than 16 steps to the sequencer. I think Paklsound might even be free. They clearly did an excellent job. Don't sabotage it by trash-talking other honest efforts to produce a music app for the device. Paklsound isn't the end-all, but don't pretend you have more than flashy lights and a mono-timbral synth.
For 0,99 USD, I'm already having more fun with it than I thought I would. Any further improvements are really just a bonus to me.
I agree that dissing other apps isn't cool, especially when 1) they came before you, and 2) you're just copying a web app from André Michelle! That said, PaklSound1 isn't free - it's $1.99, but I have good reason to believe that it's going to go on sale in the next few days to $0.99! If you want to try it, keep your eyes on it.
Thanks for your feedback. Sorry if you think that I was too harsh on paklsound, I apologize for that, they have a very complete app which has a totally different purpose than Melodica. We would imagine that Melodica appeals to different type of user, our initial goal wasn't to make a complete composing app where you can have several pages and instruments. We envisioned Melodica to be a little simple music instrument where you could do melodies that would always sound quite nice, that could be easily shared with other Melodica users. That is why we focused on getting the sounds right, in a way that any composition could always sound musical, and not many sequencers do that. But since so many people asked for different instruments we will now consider adding it, but we just want to make sure that we keep the app as simple to play as it is, because that is what we find special about it. Any suggestions or feedback will be definitely considered, so give us your ideas because we are listening, we want to make sure that our product lives to your expectations. Best regards, Antonio Varanda Candy Cane CEO
I much like the approach Melodica is taking to this style of music generation. It's a great app, simple to use, and pleasing to the ear. I passed on Paklsound because it just seemed too complex, and the sound of the "instruments", a bit too electronic for my tastes. I guess which app is better depends on what you're looking for.
