The visor shows you hidden sections of large gems. You don’t need to do anything, you’ll just see them when they come up. Even with the visor, they don’t show up that often, so you might not always find them.

In all my runs, just once I ‘entered’ a block (got an archivement) and found some coins...that means I would have seen them if I had the visor?
