Hello I've spent the last year of my spare time working on this project and released it not long ago. I've got plenty of great features still to add but I'd love to hear some feedback from all of you! These days this space seems to be completely dominated by the likes of King, but I don't like their game play style with limited moves and candy focused graphics. I thought I'd create my own spin with a competitive edge as well as the ability to trade with other players on the Market for Resources you don't have access to. It'd be great if you could download my game and play through. You level up similar to a classic RPG by mining resources and completing Quests. You'll unlock features along the way but I won't say too much so that you can still experience the journey Here's the promo video: Have fun playing Medieval Miner and I'd love to hear any feedback you have! Its a well made if a bit basic (so far) match3er with a series of 'quests' which involve collecting resources to gain XP and coins to level up. So far so good, but I'm at level 6 and seeing very little change or progression and it's getting just a little bit tedious. I can see that crafting and markets unlock at level 12 but that feels a long way away without any change or development in the mechanics (Although there has been some new cell types added). So it doesn't offer anything new and I know I said it's getting a bit tedious but there is something kind of relaxing about it and I have enjoyed my time with it so far - Give it a pop if you're a fan of the genre, at the very least there's no timer or energy system going on. Beth Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jan 29, 2014 126 8 18 Professional do-nothing'er Eastern usa #3 Beth, Jul 12, 2017 This is fantastic! I really like how the quests use the inventory you've mined through matching, this sort of set up is much more apealing to me than a typical highscore chaser. There's a lot that will keep me invested and playing. I like playing towards goals / purposeful playing...if that even makes sense. Ive already expanded my inventory once, I like that your able to expand as needed ( via IAP )..That's the only IAP I've came across, but I've only played for an hr and have lots to unlock. This has no timers ...lives or other nonsense that usually annoys .... awesome to play as much and as long as you want Really liking this so far, it's different and unique and not your typical Match3 ! Crafting will unlock before level 12, right now you're being introduced to the boosts. I'm looking at adding new features to expand on the end game but I'd love to hear your thoughts too. I know you said it feels tedious to you, do you have any suggestions as to how I could improve that feeling for you? CliffCawley Member Jul 8, 2017 10 0 0 Software Engineer Brisbane, Australia http://www.r2.com.au/ #5 CliffCawley, Jul 13, 2017 I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it Beth! Especially that you picked up on the positives that I added to ensure it was quite different to the usual match 3 games like Candy Crush. Is there anything you'd like to see changed or you think I've missed? Right now the only long term goal is the high score table, but I understand that it doesn't appeal to everyone, especially since having a long term high score table will mean that later joiners will find it difficult to catch up if the top players continue to play. I've got a few plans that I'm aiming towards but would love to hear from others so that I can incorporate the ideas too Cliff Misguided Well-Known Member Jan 27, 2009 2,346 19 38 #6 Misguided, Jul 13, 2017 Landscape CliffCawley Member Jul 8, 2017 10 0 0 Software Engineer Brisbane, Australia http://www.r2.com.au/ #7 CliffCawley, Jul 13, 2017 Oh well landscaping is probably a bit far off yet, I was going to tackle it making you a coffee or toast first... I almost couldn't see you for all the dust you've been kicking up! The market adds another dimension. Some people love to play the market, buying low and selling high. It's great to make an income by selling your resources to others who don't have them too. (Everyone starts with a different random 5 resources and unlocks up to another 5 (until level 25)). Good idea about the combos. I do give additional XP for making a combo, but perhaps it's not obvious enough. I was also considering making something special happen when you match 3 or more in a row, or it uncovering special objects instead. I know Candy Crush give you new objects, but the boosts I already have do most of those functions already. Good luck on your journey to unlock the market! orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #13 orangecan, Jul 13, 2017 I think tedious was perhaps the wrong word - Samey perhaps? I was finding a lack of variety in the early game and was getting a bit fed up with keeping going back into the quests tab to complete them. Once I realised I could just play for 5 mins and then go and complete a few quests at the same time it started to flow a bit more. CliffCawley Member Jul 8, 2017 10 0 0 Software Engineer Brisbane, Australia http://www.r2.com.au/ #14 CliffCawley, Jul 13, 2017 Ah yup sure. I tried to pace it for many players, both those who have never played a match 3 as well as veterans. It's probably a bit samey at the start while I hide a few of the advanced features until later, I really wanted the matching part to come out. I do agree with you though and I'd like to solve that both in the early game and later on too. I'm looking at options for how to do that. There are small segways with the gas and energy events but they are probably not enough. I'm considering adding some variation to the collection effects as well as adding an underlying system whereby you're collecting an additional 'thing' which will benefit you in another way than just the Quests. I'm still throwing around ideas so hopefully I'll solve that soon. In the mean time if you have any further feedback, I'd love to hear it xxteargodxx Well-Known Member Jan 11, 2011 349 0 16 Male NJ #15 xxteargodxx, Jul 16, 2017 Well this game is fun, I enjoyed it up until the recent update happened and brought in an advertisement almost every time you complete a quest/task. A little bit annoying. I had to introduce an ad to help pay for the server costs. You'll see an ad if you completed the last quest over 5 minutes ago. They'll be completely removed if you make any purchase though. I've submitted an update which will be live soon. This increases the time from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. Let me know if this is less annoying for you CliffCawley Member Jul 8, 2017 10 0 0 Software Engineer Brisbane, Australia http://www.r2.com.au/ #17 CliffCawley, Jul 23, 2017 I've just pushed an update out (it'll take a couple of days for Apple to approve) which includes the ability to lease additional mines. These give you 5 new resources each and you're limited to a total of 2 additional mines. I've also tweaked the ads as I noticed there was an issue with the displaying more often than I'd anticipated. How is everyone currently enjoying the game? Do you have any requests? fring Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jul 26, 2017 52 3 8 USA #18 fring, Jul 26, 2017 Hi Cliff, really enjoying your game (I'm in the top 80 and rising!). I happily spent the dollar to bump up my inventory and get rid of ads. Here are a couple, largely unhelpful, thoughts. As a score-chasing grind, it's very fun, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to be spending/saving my coins for. It's slowly accumulating as I sell my unneeded resources and complete quests, but right now I'm just spending coins on resources I don't have in order to complete quests to earn more coins, which seems somewhat circular. I see the option to permanently double my coins from quests, but there's no reason to buy it because I'm not using the coins for anything. I can imagine there being fun things to use the coins for (I'm level 20, so I don't know if there's a coin cost to leasing additional mines at 26, but that would certainly be a use for the coins), but right now it's just another number that's slowly growing, but not one that goes into the global leaderboard. The trapped gas event is exciting and the earthquake event is awesome, but the bonus resources event is comparatively pointless. The bonus for matching those resources is generally not worth the effort and I find myself continuing to play as normal until the event ends. I think it's just too similar to the trapped gas event, but with less flexibility and less tangible rewards and should generally be rethought. Hopefully we can get a decent sized community playing and buying/selling resources (I need somebody to buy the 200 pink diamonds I'm selling on the market). Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here! CliffCawley Member Jul 8, 2017 10 0 0 Software Engineer Brisbane, Australia http://www.r2.com.au/ #19 CliffCawley, Jul 27, 2017 Thanks, I'm happy to hear that! And congrats! Not unhelpful, any feedback is good. I might not be able to accomodate it all, but I'll try the best I can I completely agree with you here. I've been trying to come up with some better end game scenarios. Right now there's just the high score table. I understand that's not for everyone and honestly it'll be quite difficult if a player joins in a years time and wants to catch up with a player who's been playing the whole time. I'm considering a weekly scoreboard to help with that part, but I'm still looking for some long term goals. I do need to tie it in with the coins. Right now you can also purchase more boosts with the coins. Although I think for most people that's a discoverability issue. Most don't seem to buy them or feel they need them, however they do allow for rapid collection of resources. What are your thoughts on boosts? I've got some vague ideas about long term goals. For example artifacts that you can collect. They are then used for something, possibly to fill your trophy case. Another suggestion was to add factions that you're doing the Quests for. Questing for a faction increases your standing with them and then the bonus of that faction. Possibly better vendor cash or improved XP or something else. Do you (or anyone else reading this!) have any desires for some long term goals? Thanks for pointing this out. I had this feeling myself but wasn't sure if I was just second guessing myself. I think it helps during the early stages but as you level up, the XP reward you get for matches is too diminished. The reward for completing the event 100% does scale with your XP though and you will get more XP for completing it, the higher your level. That'd be great! Right now I'm having difficulty getting it in front of people. There's 1000s of new games released on mobile every day and it's a struggle to stand out. Thanks again for your feedback, I'd love to hear more from you (and anyone else out there!) Cliff (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
