Great! Thanks for the update. I played a few games and I really love it. FYI: it's not high res. Will you be updating with retina anyone soon?
@nesio718 We've got achievements alright. Check them out: @eugekava and PhagoCychotic: Sorry, no plans for retina display soon.
Also check out this glowing review by Bob 'Ashyukun' Babcock from the site -The Appcast (www.the-appcast.com/). You can see the review in the U.S. App Store "As an engineer and hobbyist mechanic, I've got a certain amount of bias towards things engineering and mechanical-related, so when I came across 'Mechanic Panic' while doing my daily sweeps through the new apps for the podcast, I had to at least make note of it from the name alone. After looking at the screenshots and the description I figured that it looked solidly worth the $.99 price tag, and picked it up. And I've played it 10 times more than anything else in the time since I picked it up. The premise and controls are incredibly simple: tap the screen to climb higher to jump back and forth and try and escape the rising ball of fire while avoiding the dangers raining down from above. The game is incredibly well polished- controls (again, simply tapping) are spot on, and the quick tutorial that the game runs through the first time you play explains everything you need to know clearly and entertainingly. The game's humor is pretty much perfect as well- the comments from both the NPCs that you can rescue from falling to their doom and the other players (other OpenFeint players registered as playing the game fall down from above as well) are hilarious, both encouraging and taunting you as you continue to climb. Graphically the game is fairly simple, but at the same time perfect for the environment it's portraying. Likewise, sound design and the music in the game are also pretty much perfect. I do enjoy that you can listen to you own music (turn off the in-game music and start it playing outside the app- it's multitasking aware) as well, but the in-game music works really well. There's really precious little I can think of that I'd recommend be changed/improved- the only thing that comes to mind would be making the game Universal so it ran natively on the iPad, but it really looks quite good pixel-doubled on the iPad as it is so that's really just a minor gripe. But, it's the addictive nature of the gameplay that really makes this such a winner- it really is nearly impossible to put down. It's been forever since I've had a game like this where I'll go, 'Well, maybe just ONE more try...' and then find myself still playing it an hour later when I should be sound asleep. There's little doubt in my mind that at the end of the year, Mechanic Panic will be one of the games high on my list of Top Games of 2011. -Bob 'Ashyukun' Babcock -The Appcast"
got this today, pretty good game. i've played trees of doom quite a bit, but think i enjoy mechanic panic more. really like the idea of rescuing other players and jumping on lifts is fun.
speaking of rescuing other players what was that about live players being orange? i tapped away the info tip too quick...how are they real players as i thought u just die when you die...?
I'm glad to see that you're visible on the App Store front page! The presentation you've woven into this game is nothing short of epic and intense -- what could be more perfect for the concept and context of the game mechanics and play mechanics? Nothing; fantastic work
Been playing this game for a few days and was pleasantly surprised when I first played. Really nice endless climber. Good job.
Game Impressions Here's my 5 Star Review! The wrench you just dropped down the shaft has caused a big firey explosion (good going) and it is your goal to see how high up the seemingly endless elevator shaft you can make it before becoming overcome by the explosion or knocked off the walls to your doom. Sure, on the surface it looks a lot like something akin to Ninjatown: Trees of Doom or NinJump but it really has its own unique style of play. There are many interesting obstacles appearing along the wall and dropping through the elevator shaft for your mechanic to interact with. From circuit switches that will turn off the lights to elevators shooting up the shaft (great for a free ride but you'll need to be sure you jump off before they blow up). Great fun! 5/5 P.S. If you could throw "Lord Gek" in a future updates as a civilian name, that would be cool. P.P.S. Hopefully this is going to go universal as I think it would be perfect for iPad play as well.
@ysr.: yeah your fellow mechanic friends will have orange names. Hehe i guess it doesn't make sense that they're falling if they're "dead" . It's just a fun way to include other players around the world into the game. Imagine if each player's unique climb is an alternate dimension of the same explosive incident. btw, you can re-enable the tutorial in the options screen (down arrow on the main screen) @CosMind, Squeaker, LordGek: Thanks for the great compliments and reviews! It's always great to hear you guys are liking the game
Well, it's a bit better now with the pause button but why cant you put it in the top right/left corner and let it be almost invisible. Or tap the score for pause. Or put two finger on screen ? I died now over 620 times, saved over 4200 people and hitting the number one spot felt like i was in trance going up and further beyond. Love it to play specially when the lights are out, playing with headphones (recommended) and turn off the music ! And now listen to the "scary" but beautiful noise effects. Replaced Canabalt as #1 !!! Maybe the top three should get a name too ? lol
There are so many little game mechanics influencing playthrough...makes it much less of a simple arcade jumper that are all over the app store. molten lava at your feet while you wait for elevators to drop really adds some tension to your high-climbing game! Im noticing loads of orange ysr players falling everywhere in my game! i try especially hard to catch those hah also is there a time limit to how far you can 'ride' an upward going elevator? i know it explodes after a while but not really sure why - its a risky move but really picks up the pace if your feet are close to being singed
used transmission prices The main reason behind this is that it will help you keep a track of your cars performance and any wear and tear of the engine parts and transmission
Mechanic Panic v1.2 is live, check it out in the App Store Cole, Tim, and Kevin have their name in the game through the contest in this thread: http://www.toucharcade.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1633777&posted=1#post1633777 Changes in this version -Fixed crashes when switching users -Fixed issues with player markers not appearing consistently -Added civilian names and quotes -Added loading online scores indicator
Woohoo finally made it far enough in the game to see myself plummet to death, unsaved by the mechanic
Pocket Gamer France gives Mechanic Panic 8.8/10! I would translate their quote but I don't speak French http://www.pocketgamer.fr/test-jeu-iphone/9160-mechanic-panic.html
This game is absolutely brilliant - BUT PLEASE change this cheap stock music, I've heard it dozens of times, so it's annoying right from the start. This game needs something better. Perhaps a catchy chiptune. Anything, but the current song is totally overused. Otherwise. It's the bomb.
