Took me about 6 minutes to launch. Good that I came across the TA thread, since it would take a while to reinstall game on the slow WiFi at work "I released my finger from the trigger... and it was over!" Nostalgia... here I come!
yay it's one of the best games ever and it works and looks quite good on iphone, also there is aim assist so the game is really playable on touch screen too.
OK, this is just surreal. No, honestly... I'm having the hardest time ever believing I'm actually playing Max Payne on my phone. That music, that voice, the comic cutscenes... my God, it's been too long Max. Unbe-****ing-lievable. Yeah, Rockstar proved PC gaming could work on iOS with GTA III, but I was never the biggest GTA fan. This on the other hand... just flat-out surreal. I can't believe it.
Guys, whatever you do, keep remembering this doesn't have autosave (except for the start of every chapter) and that the slightest mistake can leave you retracing a lot of your steps. One extra step off the ledge at Lupino's hotel has me playing back to the gunfight with the Finito Brothers. Save as much as you can! EDIT: I also hope Rockstar keep it this way. kthxbai
In the upcoming games topic, there were people who said that max payne's graphics was at the same level of a mid gameloft game. Try this game, it's superior imho!
It was me who said that, because it's true. Max Payne is an 11 year old game and it shows. It's still probably my favorite shooter of all time and many times better than anything Gameloft has ever done (and I said that as someone who is not a GL hater). Polygons isn't everything.
Can't aim and shoot at the same time. Am I doing something wrong? Would like to play this like Modern Combat (left stick move, right stick aim + if hold fire still able to aim).
The only gameloft game who impressed me is Modern Combat 3, the others have a graphic that is inferior to dead space and mass effect infiltrator!
Agreed. I wasn't talking about those games. In any event, the point was that folks shouldn't expect cutting edge graphics with Max Payne.
I have yet to try that. Frankly, I really did not like the default button arrangement. Luckily they are fully customizable. In general I'm really happy with this port. My only complaints so far are: 1) lack of character shadows. I would have appreciated at least a blob shadow to make Max feel more "in" the environment. 2) lack of shell casings. Not a big deal, but the sound of shotgun shells hitting the floor in the original is kind of iconic 3) a slight jitteriness to the movement. Again, not a big deal, but the game is simply not as smooth as on the PC 4) locked difficulty settings: that was there in the original game, but I've been playing the game in hardcore difficulty for years and I'm not really digging all the one-shot kills. I'm basically speed running through the first time and looking forward to playing it "for real" the second time. Make no mistake: this is truly Max Payne, and even just navigating through the maps is a pleasure. Wiping the mug off the Finito brothers was just as satisfying as I remembered it .
I must say that the game is absolutely gorgeous on iPhone 4 and I would take these very nitty-gritty "it's retina, but is it really?" graphics over Gameloft's squeaky-clean crap any day of the week.
