Oh, go ahead with the GBA games. I could always use more of those. And go ahead and advise some good PS1 games. I wouldn't mind purchasing them online.
Well, in regards to the GBA, the Golden Sun series is very good, widely regarded as the best RPG on the GBA. It's also open world and not completely linear. I'd recommend playing through the first to have any idea of what's going on in the second, though. Then there's the Fire Emblem games, which are my favourite SRPGs of all time. It's quite a 'hardcore' SRPG though, most prominently because if a character dies, they're gone for good, so you'll have to restart the chapter if you want them back. There are three Fire Emblem games on the GBA, I'd recommend getting the Sacred Stones first, as I it's the most newbie friendly one, then onto Rekka no Ken. The third one wasn't ever localised, but there's a fan patch which is easily obtainable via google. There's also one Fire Emblem on the GC (Path of Radiance) and one on the Wii (Radiant Dawn). Out of the two, I only played Radiant Dawn, but it was very enjoyable, and has the option to save in mid-battle, which makes it more newbie-friendly. All the Fire Emblem games are also very long. Another good series for GBA is the Summon Night series, which has an action based combat system. The second is better than the first, though, and isn't a direct follow-on. Some other good GBA RPGs would be Riviera:The Promised Land and Castlevania:Aria of Sorrow. As for the PS1, the Final Fantasy games are the obvious choice, so I'm sure you've either played some of them, or just look them up. Instead, I'll recommend Persona 2, which I'm playing at the moment, and it's awesome. It's a series set in a modern setting, with a completely original plot and great character development. It's split into two parts: Innocent Sin, the first part, wasn't ever localised, but again, a fan translation patch has been released and is easily obtainable (again, via google). The second part is a direct sequel to Innocent Sin, and it's called Eternal Punishment. Aside from that, other PS1 RPGs I'd recommend are Valkyrie Profile, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, and others which I fail to remember Those are the main ones, if you need any more recommendations, just ask
Wow, thanks. I've been meaning to get around to some of those, particularly Golden Sun and the Persona games. I think I'll check out Innocent Sin, just because you can't buy an American version, as well as Golden Sun. I've also wanted to play Chrono Cross after seeing my cousin play it, who told me that it was a great game as well, and I generally like most of the games he likes. I want to play some of Chrono Cross first, especially now that I have a guide to how to play.
Trials HD and shadow complex are each 7 bucks this week, should i get them? and has anyone bought the jc2 boom pack, if so how is that?
I wouldn't really bother with the Boom Pack, it's just a bunch of weapons, no vehicles or anything. The weapons are nice but you'd probably get bored of 'em sooner or later. I think that the Aerial Pack was a much better buy because it included the parachute thrusters, jet plane and the lock on missile launcher. Anyway, it's just two bucks so it wouldn't hurt that much.
The one week my Xbox is busted, Trials goes on sale... Great! Please tell me Castlevania isn't on sale as well... And if you enjoy the demo of Trials, definitely get the full game. It has a TON of content from what I hear, along with a level editor that you can play around with a bit in the demo as well.
alright I bought the points so ill buy the games today. What would you guys recommend for the remaining 480 pts?
Buy I Made a Game With Zombies In It (It's spelled in L33t) for 80 points, then use the remaining 400 points for something that goes on sale. I can't think of any particularly awesome games for 400 points atm.
yeah i am actually downloading the trial version right now of that. for the 400 i think splosion man, TMNT back in time or something and the trials hd big pack are what i was lookin at. i downloaded the first two demos nd if i dont like em ill just keep the points nd wait.
Trials HD is probably my favourite XBLA game ever, followed by Shadow Complex. It gets amazingly difficult though, the demo is absolutely nothing compared to the frustration of later levels.
I'm thinking of getting 2000 points and buying Geometry Wars 2, Shadow Complex and Castle Crashers. Does that seem like a good idea?
I wouldn't say Castle Crashers was a good idea. I bought into the hype just like everyone else before release, but the game isn't really that long and the way it's structured kinda makes you play the story over and over and over to unlock characters. It might be alright if all the characters weren't exactly the same in their fighting style and the entire game couldn't be completed using only one combo.
Yeah, I tried the game as well due to the hype. I got bored a few minutes in. Idk, something about it just didn't interest me as much as other beat-'em-ups I've played.
Has anybody here played Joe Danger for the PS3? What are your thoughts on it? I've been hovering over the buy button for awhile, but something keeps stopping me for some reason.
If you can wait 24 hours I'll let you know. I get paid tomorrow and it's highly likely I'll be picking this up since I loved Trials HD. It seems to have pretty good reviews anyway.
Alright, thanks for the advice guys. If that's the case, I still have a couple of points to play with, what about Battlefield 1943 or are there any other good games you can recommend?
Heavy Rain - only played the demo, but it's very boring. If you have a lot of patience and a few hours to kill then it would be good. the concept is good, graphics are great, as is the story. It's just too vast, for example, one level requires you to find clues on a death, and you have to find them in a huge field at night! Also, it is unclear what to do, you are told nothing and have to figure everything out. Assassin's Creed 1 - Good, not as good as number 2 though. Need to play this to understand story of No.2 but not essential, you could get by; atleast research it briefly. Assassin's Creed 2 - Fantastic game. Brilliant graphics and attention to detail, e.g. when you get out of water your suit is wet and drips. Story is interesting and historically accurate - gives real descriptions of most of the buildings featured. Lots of mini-games/side missions to get more money/story info. (not essential though). PS3 also has extra DLC including a whole chapter of like 8 missions. Battlefield - only played the demo of multi-player, but it was really enjoyable. If it's anything like number 1, it will be a great, funny game. I loved the first so much. Only problem with the demo I played is that death came extremely easily, even when in cover due to snipers! Watch out.
