The classic 4x space game is Ascendancy. Simple UI and has some serious depth to it but the learning curve is kind of nuts... I had to do some research on google before I could understand it but once I did I spent literally 12 hours straight on a bus playing it. The updated version (better graphics, UI, tutorial) is Starbase Orion. I can't say much for this one yet because I have yet to learn how to play it. I have tried a couple of times but it looks like I will need to invest the same kind of research into figuring out how it works (yay for youtube). I can personally vouch for KoDP as well. It is my current addiction. It also takes some research to learn... and reading the lore and manual in the game is pretty much a requisite to getting started. You literally cannot complete the heroquests without them So yeah, we have had a lucky year for 4x games and I think you will find literally dozens (if not hundreds) of hours of gameplay in any of those three if you are willing to invest time in the learning curve. Cheers!
Yeah, it still surprises me that KoDP didn't get picked up as much. It was highly reviewed by every site and has a perfect rating in the AppStore. So, it has to be the price, but look at what you're getting for $10. Your're getting a game that's already lenghy and then has a ton of replay value due to having over 500 scenarios. Yeah, Starbase Orion is awesom!. The only reason I was able to really understand it was reading all the help on TA and going to Chimera's forum. I bought Ascendancy after SO, so I never really invested too much time into it.
You can check out Legendary Wars like crex stated, but the load times are long, and the gameplay feels sluggish at times. Check out Sentinel 3 FieldRunners geoDefense and Bloons TD 4
Looks like I'll be getting Smash Cops, Star Marine, Run Roo Run, and maybe Zombie Wonderland 2 tonight. Pretty decent release night I guess.
We kinda just got bad news about Star Marine. I'm going to buy it just to see if the accusation holds up. If it does you can find me doing some serious complaining tonight/tomorrow. I'm also getting Smash cops and Run roo run for sure. I will also have my fingers crossed in hopes that Caylus and Paper monsters get released soon! Thinking about a couple other.
I would say Land Air Sea Warfare HD(http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/land-air-sea-warfare-hd/id391239935?mt=8) or iPhone version. Fairly Easy, many difficulty levels, lots of units and is above all easy to control.
Been reading about the steep learning curve for Red Conquest. If I'm familiar with RTS games like Starcraft, would Red Conquest be a good choice for me? I read through the game thread and it seems pretty interesting.
If you're willing to spend time with it, then definitely. In any case, the releases are out! Edit: Wow, just realized Red Conquest is currently only $0.99. Holy shit, if you're interested in the game then seriously get it guys. Looks like Smash Cops got pulled. Only grabbed Run Roo Run and Star Marine so far. Guess I'll wait for Apple's new featured list before buying any other releases.
I wanted to recommend New World Colony to anyone looking for a new strategy async game. I just hear about it over on the Async thread and decided to check it out and so far I am loving it. Great depth, good tutorial, game center matchmaking for up to 4 people. Really loving it. Add me to play: sanitymops. I play pretty much all the worthwhile async games so add me anyway
I'll hit you up when Caylus comes out if you get it. I'm currently not playing any strategy async games at the moment though. I'll look into New World Colony...how would you compare it to Starbase Orion?
Not really comparable at all. This is more of a settlers of catan hex game. You still playing orion? I haven't tried the multiplayer yet and I hear that is the best part. Also, for disc drivin' fans, I just picked up disc pool for free and it is really fun too. I wish they did async though... right now it is all real time and a lot of people quit before the end. But if you have friends from TA to play with... *wink* *wink* EDIT: Thanks for the heads up on Caylus. This is the first I have heard of it. Looks like something I will pick up What can I say? I am an addict! EDIT 2: Also, I picked up Hero Academy tonight... looks like another Async keeper. It was a good release night for me.
Nah, I deleted it a little while ago. I'm on an 8gb iPod because of the iPod 5 non-release, so i have to micromanage my space a lot. Never lose a device and expect Apple to update in a timely manner. The only async game on my phone right now is War of Words (best async word game). If you have or get that we can play tomorrow. I'm going to play the releases tonight, crash, and then I'll be ready to start up a game tomorrow. Edit: No problem! Hopefully it comes out this week!
So, I know I'm like two years late, but I bought Cut the Rope a few days ago because my child said, after we finished Bring Me Sandwiches, "wouldn't it be cool if there were a game with a Candy monster!". I never buy physics puzzles because I really did not like Angry Birds and other slingshot games and I typically suck at all of them. But I was surprised to discover that I love Cut the Rope, and the child loves it too. So, what other games in the same vein can you recommend? It has to be made for iPad, be polished, have cute colourful graphics, and not be too difficult (so Cut the Rope is great, but World of Goo would be too difficult and too "gloomy"). I don't really like lots of trial and error and like I said, no Angry Birds or other games where you have to throw stuff.
I recommend - Stretched Cover Orange Where's my water Civiballs Little lost chick Jump Out Escape the ape Seige hero Beyond Ynth Air penguin Scribblenauts remix Monster Island Max &the magic marker Jetpack joyride Sea stars Peggle Flight control Fruit ninja Slice it Bag it Early bird Ninja Ponk Gravity Lab Tiny Journey Cross fingers Quarrel Glow fish Super stockman golf Ninja fishing Draw race 2 Aiko Island Crazy Hedgy Lumi eBoo
Where's My Water? [99ยข / review] should be perfect for you. Polished, cute, colorful, not too difficult, not much trial and error.
I highly recommend Up and Up! by s7 multimedia. Its a charming game with an adorable frog (?) and its reallly easy to play (and its universal).
uhh drop the chicken is kinda similar, and it's aight. not as good, but still. Also, the gameplay is different. but the style is comparable Cut the rope has 3 different versions. If you really like it, no reason not to get all three. Contre Jour has CTR elements, as well as a bunch of others. It's pretty awesome, and has an awesome world of gooish art style. So not as cutesy.
