Trial by Survival is a great game! And since it's free, you can't go wrong. However, you can finish the campaign in just a few hours, but since the environments are randomized as well there being an endless arena, there's a lot of replay value. You might want to get more than just TbS for a long trip. I haven't played 9th Dawn, but it looks very cool. Would likely take up a lot more time. If you like those types of games, the Avernum and Avadon series are great (but iPad only).
If your okay with oldschool first person games get the quest gold edition it has two of the 16 expansion packs an boasts well over 300 hours of game play and a map about the size of skyrim. I would try one of the free expansions though as they are stand alone or can be incorporated into the main game and the gameplay is not for everyone. Mission Europa collectors edition will also give you aroun 100 hours of gameplay and feels exactly like system shock.
