I don't remember having too much trouble without doing the IAPs, but it's been a while. You could always just wait for it to go free again.
I'm looking for a game for a long airplane flight. I have an iTouch 4g, and like RPG's, TD, rogueikes, and strategy in general. Preferably something relatively cheap.
Kingturn is an excellent strategy RPG that sounds well suited to you. It's got a tower defense component in that you have a base to protect and forts that are tactically important to acquire and maintain. Compelling plot and comprehensive content (easily 20+ hours not including skirmish play). It's free to download and play 6 scenarios then $4.99 for the rest. Also Partia is a decent turn based strategy although briefer and slightly more straight forward. 9th Dawn is a recent RPG with dual stick controls and an open world sandbox environment; it's a lot of fun to explore although combat is a tad easy. Dungeon Plunder is a good roguelike with varied character classes and good replay. I've also really enjoyed Cavern, which is a roguelike that has more detailed levels than many roguelikes with ally NPCs and secret doors.
If you decide on one of those recommendations above please post in the game thread; I'd be curious how you find any of them to be.
I agree with Undeadcow's recs, and here are some of mine: Warhammer Quest is an absolutely awesome turn based RPG. It's $5 though - not sure if that counts as cheap for you. But it's well worth the price. Dark Quest is good too - similar to WQ though not as polished and with less content. But then it's cheaper too at $2. I just discovered Maximus, an action RPG, which is a lot of fun and free! If you like old Bard's Tale/Dungeon Master type RPGs, Silversword is well done. Sword of Fargoal is a great RPG staple too. Ace Patrol is a good TBS game and free (IAP unlocks further gameplay, but there's a decent amount there without it). Battle for Wesnoth is another great staple - very good turn based RPG/strategy with tons of content.
Puzzlejuice has been mentioned. Also: Spelltower, Six Letter Words, 7 Words, Missing Link, Frankenword. (I really like word games.) Some of those are free, but I forget which - all a blast, whichever you get.
There used to be more of a difference, but now, I think the only difference is the device you're on (if you're on iPad, you probably want Legends). Since you're on iPod, just get the regular one. SoF 2 is coming out probably in the latter half of this year though, so you could wait for that if you've got plenty of others to play. It'll be better than 1 on epic levels.
ive been off of the appstore for about 2 months and ive picked up a 9th dawn and a few game released last week but is there anything i need to get?
