How is the upgrade system in Samurai II? I won't buy a beat-em-up without some addictive level up system!

    Right. Behind. You.
It kind of sucks. You kill people and barrels for points and you can spend them on attacks that just kind of look cooler or get a little more health. And there really aren't that many upgrades anyway.

Ignoring the measly upgrade system and the repetitive gameplay, Samurai II could be the best-looking game on the App Store (yeah, and I've played Infinity Blade). The colors and the art is incredible. It's like splattering blood all over a Japanese art museum.

Interesting way of describing it. :p Is it still worth the price despite the gameplay being repetitive?

    Completely accurate post.

The art definitely will blow you away, especially if you have an iPad 2 on hand. Can't wait to see how Shadowgun turns out.
The gameplay is indeed quite repetitive. I think it's probably the best hack-and-slash game you're going to find on the iOS though. It's an amazing feeling for some reason when you land hits that slice the enemy's head off, or even in half. Not only are the graphics some of the best you're going to find on the iOS, the sound effects and music are awesome as well. Worth the $2.99. The first one is quite fun as well. I actually liked the controls in that one unlike many people.

No iPad 2 on hand, but I will have an iPad 3 in a couple months. :) I will be buying SII, then, even if mostly for the art/music.

On a separate note, I would completely recommend Swords and Soldiers to anyone on the fence. It is EXTREMELY well-done.

The gameplay really isn't that bad that all. It's not just mindless button mashing especially if you play on the harder difficulties.

Indeed, S&S is a fun game.

    Thanks :D

I'll most likely get the other games, but I needed one of them to gauge how well i liked it. About 90% sure I will buy the others now.

Thanks again for your reply :)

Bought hook worlds recently (my first of the three), and I really cannot get into it. They seems like incredible games, but I just cannot seem to enjoy this one. I will definitely give champs a try because the levels seem much more appealing than endless for this game though.

Agreed, awesome artwork in this game. Certainly the best in terms of aesthetics.

I thought Spider-man and Samurai 1 were both better hack and slash games.

Nice to know I have some company on thoughts for controls of samurai 1. I preferred the swiping controls to the button mashing as well.

    Hey guys,

What's your advice for a turn-based RPG (iPhone or iPad)?
Already replayed Shining Force for the hundred time, tried "Hunters" as well. Is there some gem I'm missing on the appstore?
Althrough GLWG is not a RPG, I also played it.

    Thanks,
    m

You want more RPG or more strategy?

If you include GLWG try Tactical Warrior though the game has no story but is great for TBS, similar to GLWG which had a not so important story.

If you want more RPG some people like War of Euthrath though the story is immature IMO.

Battle for Wesnoth is honestly the game I think you'd like most from what you told me. good if you're into it, tons (and i mean TONS) of campaigns that would keep you busy for a long, long time with tons of strategy.

Cool, I'm downloading War of Eustrath right now and will try Wesnoth right after.
I know FFtactics is coming soon (maybe). That's the kind of game I was looking for. I was wondering if there was any game of this type with a scope & quality of, say, Zenonia or Inotia.

You already got them both. They'll be more than enough until FFT comes out at the end of July.

Umm... I've never been into RPGs, except when I played Runescape ages ago(That's RPG, rightt? :p), so I'd like to know, what's the best RPG for a starter? And I hope it's not too pricy(.99$ is my max) and hopefully free, and I'm low on space so 150mb would be great max, unless it's great it shouldn't pass 150. So what's good for starting player and not spoiled with big price or filesize?

    Waouh that's a tough question.
Most of the time good RPGs mean an engaging universe and story alongside a deep tactical gameplay (except for Action RPGs, but Runescape had tactic and action if I remember well).

So usually, the filesize increase, and so does the price.

I was really happily surprised by Aralon. It's a very good western RPG, but the price and filesize doesn't match your criteria. And you might want a more casual experience if you just start in RPGs.

If it was on console, I would suggest either a Zelda, or something like Final Fantasy 12 (good mix of real time action and tactics), or Valkyria Chronicles.

Unfortunately I don't know anything like this (and really good) on iOS yet. I'd buy a game like that by the way.
