Of course Z3 is a grindfest. That comes with the definition of a KRPG. That doesn't mean the game is any less fun. There's plenty of awesome skills, hundreds of equips like always, plus some new features that weren't in the other two. I also have generally liked the story of the series, and the plot in this one is the best thus far. It's an action RPG kiddos. You kill until you can't kill anymore (aka when the game's over). That's the point. Of course there's grinding.

Dissenting opinion clearly since this can be argued about every Gameloft game with multiplayer. If this was how most people thought, Gameloft wouldn't be pouring out thousands of units every debut day. Their online games always chart into the top 25 within a day, and into the top 10 soon after. There's plenty of other reasons to play this besides it being portable. Plus, where the hell in the US is there no wifi? There's wifi at the mall, at Starbucks, at every restaurant here in Houston, even McDonalds and Chick-fil-a..not sure where the hell you live. You're missing out on the best experience there's ever been on the iOS. This is coming from a guy that just hit $1400 in total game spendings on the iOS. By the way, this post isn't directed specifically at you.

I am looking for a new RPG but can't decide what to get. I prefer JRPG over WRPG/KRPG. I should fit the following criterias:

    - huge amount of exploration
    - no grindfest
    - varied quests
    - engaging storyline
    - good combat system

What I tried and didn't like too much: Zenonia (grindgrindgrind), Aralon, Chaos Rings (fights are really cool but you could not explore the game world as much as i would like to), Inotia (see Zenonia), Eternal Legacy (gameloft games are sooo shallow)

I didn't tried the older Final Fantasy games yet even though i already own them. But i heard there was a lot of grinding as well (typical for older jprgs).

Please DO NOT recommend hybrid games which only have rpg elements (like battleheart, space miner, mission europa etc.)

Ash fits all of your criteria. A few others:

    Dink Smallwood
    Undercroft
Dungeon Hunter 1 or 2 maybe?
    Secret of Mana

Or you could always jailbreak and get an emulator.

Telling us what you didn't like about Aralon would help a lot.

Consider The Quest (lite version avaliable) or Crimson Gem Saga (which I haven't played much but I hear is good). Also if you've already got it give Final Fantasy 1 a spin, I don't think the grinding is that heavy.

well, I live in a small town and there's no wifi in restaurants. Some people are too lazy to set up a router or can't get it to work. some have no need for wifi. I have a friend who has no wifi...

    and better than dead space?

wow! I remember not even a month ago, you said dead space was the best experience you've ever had on iOS. Now I really want this, but I won't even be able to use all three months. :'(

The whole character and world design didn't appeal to me. That is the point i dislike about most western rpgs rpgs. most of them look so generic. i really want to like it since it has a huge world to explore.

thanks for all the other suggestions. i will take a closer look at crimson gem saga and ash.

Heh, that's funny - to me most jrpgs all look the same. I can see though how a lot of Western ones would too - I just prefer the Western look more.
I tried Ash for a bit - the story is excellently written. I just couldn't deal with the combat. That style of combat (where you just take turns attacking) doesn't appeal to me - doesn't feel strategic enough. It was also pretty challenging as I remember.

Well, actually in those posts I was very clear in saying that it was the best "single-player" experience to date on the iOS. It still is. However when comparing everything between DS & O&C, I'd rather be playing O&C any day. That's just me.
Raving about it all of yesterday. This and many similar posts.

Hm, I generally only think action RPGs are fun as well. The only turn-based ones I like are CGS, CR, and FFIII (JRPGs galore). Always love me another quality KRPG though. Fun ones like Dungeon Hunter 2 and Aralon are also good for me.

    Order & Chaos
    Sword and Sworcery
    World of Goo

    Top 3.

    Infinity Blade
    Real Racing 2
    Dead Space

These follow closely after the first three and are must-haves for an iPad 2 owner.

For someone who hasn't like iOS ball rolling games, is Gears really worth the hard drive space?
