Crimson Gem Saga! Anyone know of any good TBS board games? I bought Neuroshima Hex and love it. I was thinking about Carcasonne, but I have no idea what it's about.
I think those are all quite different. I have Rimelands, The Quest and Across Age. I like Rimelands the best, was never able to get into The Quest (prefer Undercroft), and don't really like Across Age. The Dev's say it's like Zelda (a link to the past I think) but I don't really see it. I'd go for Rimelands and check out Across Age lite. @peterthegeek, the only other TBS board game I know of besides the two you mentioned is RISK but haven't heard great things about it. Oh yeah, and Catan.
I highly recommend Carcassonne. Basically, you take turns laying down tiles with parts of different city structures on them. If the connected tiles form a complete structure, the person who had previously claimed that feature using their "meeples" earns points, depending on the type and size of the structure. There is a surprising amount of depth to these simple rules, though, so it's definitely a "minute to learn, lifetime to master" game. If you're into turn-based board games at all, I say go for it!
Okay, I just got a new iPhone 4 and I'm looking for a game that'll keep me hooked for a long time. Like over 10 hours. I was looking at some apps such as Modern Combat: Sandstorm, Crimson Gem Saga, Zenoia, Chaos Rings, etc. But I can't pick a single one to buy. I like long, immersive single player games, or fun games with a well-done multiplayer mode (online). Does anyone have any suggestions?
Out of the four games you mentioned, I'd say Modern Combat Sandstorm fills your criteria the most. Its campaign mode is short, but a number of multiplayer FPSes on the iPhone do not have a single-player mode at all. It definitely has a very impressive multiplayer mode though. However, its sequel will be released soon, so you might want to check that out instead. You should also consider N.O.V.A. and Archetype.
Wow I didn't even know about it's sequel. Thanks for the heads up. Okay I'll take a look at those, thanks.
Welcome! I like all of the games you mentioned with the exception of Zenonia but if that's your thing I hear it lasts well over 10 hours. Crimson Gem Saga is my favorite of the ones you listed although it doesn't have Retina Display support. MC:S and Chaos Rings do have the RD support, MC:S won't last you 10 hours though, CR should. Lot of strategy games will last you over 10 hours, my favorites are Battle for Wesnoth, War of Eustrath, and Rogue Planet (but none of them have retina display support unfortunately). Phoenix Wright is a really cool game, Final Fantasy 1 & 2 are classic RPG's that will last over 10 hours, Ravensword is a really nice action/adventure game that lasts around 6 hours and Rimelands is a really cool turn based RPG that I think should last around 10 hours too.
Phoenix Wright is a very long adventure that will last you 20-30 hours depending on how often you look at walkthroughs.
Ditto. I enjoyed the originals but have never really been able to get into RPGs on my ipod because something is always lacking (or alternatively, as was the case with Zenonia 2, I just found them to be too much/too complicated for the platform).
What is this game called? I am having a hard time trying to find it. It is similar to the game Unify, or Tetris-like game with two sides that eventually hits the center.. It has a spinner on each side so the color can be selected. I think it was released before the start of the summer. That's all I can remember.
Everybody who ever debated getting Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, GET IT NOW! They just lowered the price to $4.99 for the full game, which now includes every map, even Der Reise, for FREE!
Noice! Just downloaded the update.. Glad I never shelled out any cash for the extra maps Actually hadn't been following this game in quite some time, were they charging $10 apiece for all these maps still?
