I'm fiending for some good RPGs right now. What do you guys recommend? I've already got the following... Undercroft The Quest (Gold) Sword & Poker 2 Solomons Keep Catacombs Dungeon Hunter Underworlds Dark Shrine Ravensword Final Fantasy I & II Fighting Fantasy: Deathtrap Dungeon Crusade of Destiny Deadly Dungeons Necromancer Rising Dungeons & Such You'll notice I'm not a fan of the anime RPG titles like Zenonia, Across Age, Caligo Chaser, Hybrid, and Inotia. I tried the lite versions and just didn't like them. I enjoyed Undercroft and The Quest the most. Dungeon Hunter and Solomons Keep followed close behind. And despite it's basic graphics I've been really into Dungeons & Such. I never really got into the others I bought. I was thinking of maybe getting Sword of Fargol or 100 Rogues, even though the graphics don't look to be my taste they seem like popular games. What's the general consensus on those? I'd be interested in anything else like Dungeons & Such as well, as long as it's not online since I have an iPod touch. Obviously I'd love anything like Undercroft or The Quest, or any other Wizardry 8/Oblivion type games but I don't think there are any more for iphone. So what are some good RPGs I'm missing out on?
Well, if you loved The Quest and want more of the same, it has a ton of expansions. Personally, I also loved Monster RPG 2, but it is in a JRPG SNES-style, turn-based. It has a Lite to try. BTW, as a data point, I didn't like any of Korean action-RPGs. I'd also love to have some later Wizardry and Might and Magic ports, but alas...
What about Dragon Bane II (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dragon-bane-ii/id291878202?mt=8)? I haven't played it myself but heard positive things. EDIT: I can also suggest Steam Pirates. It is a fun turn-based RPG with great graphics.
If you're interested in something *extremely* retro, we've just submitted something to Apple. Maybe I'll post an upcoming thread about it.
Dragonbane II (and Princess Demelza) would be great choices if you liked Undercroft - but you have to keep in mind these games were written for the PalmOS platform many moons ago and have ugly/old graphics. Gameplay is styled after the old Bard's Tale games (if you have ever heard of those) and has a complete 'overworld' like The Quest, but is much more dungeon heavy (think the King's tomb in Undercroft with all the tricks and traps.) There is a party system - and you can even change party members along the way (stopping at inns allows you to swap with people at that inn...) Combat is both more structured and abstract - when you encounter something you will jump to a combat screen with visuals and descriptions of what you're facing/numbers/distance/etc. Like Undercroft, you will most likely have a party where each member is doing something different (say two fighters in front, a mage and an archer or priest doing their thing in back) and you step through what each character/monster does until combat is over (or you flee! ) Very solid games, with a lot to see/do, but as I said, if you can't get past the graphics, you might not enjoy this one. Sometimes I wish they turned off the blur and let us see scaled pixels instead (looks fine in The Quest.) Lots more info on DBII here.
Not sure how long The Infinity Project is, I don't play my first person shooters a lot. And knowing the people of TA they're going to say Phoenix Wright, go into itunes and look at the reviews sorted by the most critical reviews.
so i lost my ipod last march, i finally got around to get a good one, what games have i missed since then that i should get? i like pretty much all types of games
Can someone tell me the approximate play time for Zenonia 2? I haven't got my sims yet so depending on the answer I may get Zenonia 2 to pass the time...
Zenonia has like 50+ hours of gameplay, more if you want max levels and multiply playthroughs using different characters.
It's probably more along those lines, but considering that there's four characters, and each playthrough should take longer if you take time to do everything, you could probably clock in over 80 hours on this one. Content is definitely not an issue with the Zenonia games.
