Frankly there are too many threads being created lately that ask for help about a specific problem with your iDevice. After about 6 posts the thread gets lost forever. So for the sake of all the future TA'ers and the current TA'ers I have decided to make a mass thread on these topics. That way the threads will not get lost forever as they will hopefully be merged with this one. This thread will help with the clutter of useless threads, as well as be a central place to get all your iDevice assistance, advice, what have you. Examples of what I am rambling about are but not limited to the following:

    Crashing Errors
    Memory Issues
    iTunes Error Codes
    Jailbreaking!!!
    Beta Problems and Installation
    Bad Pixels
    Broken Screens
Do it your self themes (If Winterboard is not for you) a.k.a where are the actual files located in the root partition.
    Root Access
    White Screens of Death
    General Upkeep of your iDevice
    Best Accesories for your iDevice

If one of the mods could please sticky this thread I would greatly appreciate it, as we all need a central "database" for iDevice help.

  2. These should be kept to the jailbreak forum. The rest are good though.

    Agreed.

Good idea though. My iPod is ruined. I succumbed to the White Screen of Death to the point of no return. :(

did you already try to let it run out of battery by just leaving it on? It worked for me.

DFU Mode (hard restore) Guide: http://ask-yusry-anything.blogspot.com/2008/02/how-to-get-into-dfu-mode-for-ipod.html If a normal restore through iTunes doesn't work, try this.

PROTIP for battery life issues on iOS4: If your ipod runs an app, and that app crashes, power off (hold the sleep button until the red slider shows) and power up to clear any memory. This fixed my battery issues on my 2nd gen iPod Touch.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766v (information on Backups)
You can navigate these folders and copy the entire backup folder to another location if you want. I keep several backups and date them. Sometimes backups can fail or become corrupted, so keep more than one.

You can find the location of your apps, podcasts, and other downloaded things by starting iTunes, then going to Edit >> Preferences >> Advanced. There is a box which gives you the filepath there. If you need to backup apps, you can copy all of the files in the apps folder to another location. To restore, you need to highlight your apps and then drag them back into iTunes. You can't just paste them back into the folder.

Sorry to hear that. Did you let the battery drain flat and try to recharge it?
Well look on the bright side, at least you now have a good reason to get a 4th gen iPod Touch when they come out later this year ;)

MemoryInfo has been working miracles for me since I've upgraded my 2nd gen Pod Touch to iOS4...

Yeah I don't know what it's at now. Yesterday I left it on best I could (but the screen is white, no way to tell where I am, and now it wont respond to the home screen button or volume buttons. When I turn it on it just shows a grey screen for about 10 second then shuts off again. So that tells me that there is still an inkling of battery left. Problem is I dont know what to do with it from here. Do I keep presing the power button over and over? Cause my home button is really stuck so I have to use all my damn might to hold it down. It's a real inconvenience.

But you are right, the ONLY bright side to this is I have motivation to get the 4th gen iPod touch, if it's any freaking good. The 3rd gen was a flat out disappointment. It better pretty much have all the specs the iPod 4 has. I would really like the same look as well (as the iPhone 4 is sexy as f*ck) so yeah. But thanks for all your help guys, but nothing seems to be working and my only hope left now it just leave it for dead for days untill NOTHING shows up and responds to any of the buttons I push.

when upgrading from 4.0 to 4.0.1 does it work the same way as upgrading from 3.x to 4.0? (restore to firmware, then restore from backup and recopy data)

Yup. And while restoring works, and everything is now wiped off my iPod, the screens are still white. They simply will not go away lol.

It can slow your iPhone down, it depends what you do with it.

You can't talk about illegal downloading on this forum.

Normal apps stay when you un-jailbreak, but jailbreak apps disappear.

Cydia is like the App Store but just for jailbreak apps.

Sorry. Can jailbreak apps slow your iPhone?
And I only want to do is put themes.
If I put only themes is it like the same normal iPhone
with another theme? Do that slow iPhone?
Can some themes do that it's difficult to take away jailbreak?
Is it workin in 3gs with ios4?

    Those are last questions..

I just like to share an article that is quite helpful. It doesn't talk about jailbreaking stuff, but it does talk about common simple issues that everyone usually encounters. Give it a read: Common Issues and Fixes

I have a question. When backing up your ipod, will the music be backed up even though you don't have the music in your library?
