Obviously they won't be ported. But there's a chance that EA will make mobile versions. EA have already made iOS versions of Dead Space and Battlefield Bad Company 2, so there's a decent chance that they'll make Mass Effect 3 and/or Battlefield 3 for iOS.
I'm not getting my hopes up just yet seeing as it isn't confirmed for iOS. I really hope it is though.
The advantage of ME3 is that since its using the Unreal Engine, they can reuse most of their existing art assets, just downscale them. Of course, because Bioware branched and modified their version of UE3 a long time ago for Mass Effect before iOS support was added, it's still probably a lot of work to resync the version to target iOS. The disadvantage of the convenience of UE3 is that they might try to cram existing PC/console conventions into the iOS version making a sub-optimal mobile app. ME2 was tending toward third person shooter rather than RPG, and I'd think an iOS ME3 would go even more in that direction. Making a deep RPG would be too time consuming and may not reflect Mass Effect's more action oriented core audience compared to Dragon Age. The question would be whether an iOS ME3 third person shooter continues to incorporate team control and party system? Rainbow Six's implementation of team control worked as well as can be expected, but its still very clunky and screen space cluttered.
I was talking about either one. You choose at the beginning of the game which class you want to play, and effectively which one survived... At least that's how I see it working out and being something interesting which fans would want to play. In ME3 whichever one survived is the one who is on your team.
i dont know but something tells me that BF3 will come to iphone OBVIOUSLY it wont be a port. But am sure it will look amazing Bad company 2 was very good!
I'm not too convinced either. But we know for sure from the quotes from Twitter that they're going to get handheld versions. With the "secret" iPhone 4's given to gaming companies with the dual core processors and retina Display, I think it's more likely that they'll come to the iOS. Either way, I'm going to get the console version of BF3
I just don't see Mass Effect, the true essence of Mass Effect, working as an iOS game. It's difficult for me to see EA making full fledged versions of these titles, releasing them at around the same time as the console version, and selling them for $7 or less. Remember, Battlefield 2 for the iOS came out a long time after the console release and was watered down, especially in terms of the mp. What they did with Dead Space proves that it could happen, but the iOS version was only 2 hrs long and contained no mp. EA is basically the only multi-platform developer that would ever consider doing this, but it's still hard to believe they would create a full-fledged Battlefield 3 package and sell it off so cheaply.
It's been confirmed on Bioware website. They are also permanent squadmates (along with Garrus, Tali, and Liara provided they survived). It only stands to reason that a big gap and interesting plot line is how the viremire survivor rised through the ranks to eventually become spectres, and what they did to stop reapers during that time... with a good writer I think it could become something special I agree in some respects... like for me, if they don't have good shooting mechanics, interesting biotic techniques, branching stories AND above all good writing then the game will be a failure to me... Mass effect Galaxy really pissed me off, I mean it was just SO badly done, BUT even Bioware admitted that was more of a test run and that game wasn't that great... so here's hoping they can figure out a way to bring Mass Effect to iOS. Even if it's a short game, with awesome mechanics I think I would buy it for $10, to me, I would just consider it more DLC for ME.
I don't think anyone's saying that thy'll bring the full version of either to iOS. Or even a fully featured version either. EA Mobile seems to be taking the route of a unique version for iOS that can, if needed be tweaked to suit the platform. The same will likely be true of these games. In regard to Mass Effect 3, as ltcommander.data states in the quote below, they could focus more on the shooter mechanics and have more simplified RPG elements (kind of like how Infinity Blade's focus is the swordfights with simple RPG filler around it). And with a simpler side story or prequel like Dead Space, it would allow for a smaller scale game that is more suited to the <$10 price and even mobile play.
I think they learn the errors of past and the 2ond game will be better... But I just hope so. Because ea cares only about a cheap buck not about the quality of the game. Just look at dead space... Its soooo short and soooo soooooo boring. I mean they gived us like 4 weapons and thats it... Is it so hard to make about 100 weapons and some multiplayer??? I think its not... but for lazy fat people at EA is hard! BTW I think we have more chances of seeing shift 2 for the iphone!
Are u for real? Dead space wasn't quality? You want 100 weapons? Exactly when did dead space 1 or 2 have 100 weapons on the consoles? And how is dead space short? It took me 4 hours on easy, and 6 on hard You want every game to have multiplayer? Dead space just ist that kind of game It doesn't work well on deadspace2, no real reason it would work here Geez...
I found an article about this but it does not confirm an iPhone version. It says that it is possible though. http://bf3blog.com/tag/bf3-iphone/ EA's sale report also confirms handheld versions. I think this image Is real.
Great information, jamesdoug. I think that when a developer says mobile, it is likely they mean iPhone. It's a huge, and growing market.
It says Mobile, which probably means it's for iPhone or Android. Then again, mobile means portable so... damn! It could be anything.
More likeley iOS and Android. Yes, don't forget the other 6 iOS devices and the stuff there being released on multiple platforms...
