Played Avengers Alliance 1 & 2. This is similar, but more like the Star Wars and DC games of the same type. I find it to load way faster and run way smoother than either of those on my mid-low end Moto Android, which was a huge and welcome surprise (especially for a newer game). I really expected to delete this quickly because it would run poorly, but it seems to auto adjust graphics and frame rates. The story is mildly interesting. Spider-Man and Daredevil are in my top 5 favorite comic characters, so I love that I had to do nothing except pre-register to have both of them. X-Men will obviously be added later since Wolverine is already in the game. Its not straight vanilla, but its sort of more of the same in comic games. I see myself playing for a while, and then well see how quality of life goes for long term. Certainly looks good at this stage with plenty to do, but energy timers seem to be everywhere. I pulled Luke cage for my first character and his Taunt ability helps a lot. There are plenty of similar Match-3 games or Fire Age games or Summoners War games or Clash of Clan games or others. A good formula gets copied. It's not as if that's new to iOS games. Personally I'm really enjoying Marvel Strike Force and I've been playing Galaxy of Heroes for years. It's just like having a different flavor of ice cream. I haven't spent a dollar and have been playing for like 6+ months (since Beta). I really missed the old Marvel turn-based battlers and so this scratches the itch perfectly... Also, the amazing graphics and speedy combo attacks don't hurt. fring Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jul 26, 2017 52 3 8 USA #7 fring, Apr 10, 2018 I don't have any SW:GoH experience, but I've played a variety of other party-battlers like this. It's a pretty normal formula at this point, so I don't see the point in complaining about it. My main complaint would be that there's just too much to do. With alliance raiding, blitz, arena and challenges (alongside the numerous story-driven campaigns) all using their own energy currency, everything just feels super bloated and it takes forever just to do the basic keep-up-with-jones daily things. It's particularly annoying in that all these different modes are basically the same battler game, just for earning different types of other currencies. If you're going to have all these modes, at least make them feel unique. The only one that feels even remotely unique is the raid mechanic, because your party doesn't heal between battles (which is hardly that innovative, obviously). Apple highlighted this on their front page, but the animations in this game are spectacular. I know that, from a strategic perspective, it's better to simply focus on your primary party, but when every character has such cool, unique animations I can't help wanting to train up my new recruits and through them into battle to check out their moves for myself. As a character-collecting experience, having so many unique animations, most of which only trigger off of special events (such as critical hits or knock outs), is much more fulfilling than just providing new art and general strategic flexibility. In summary, I'm enjoying it and will probably continue playing it right up until the Harry Potter game comes out. However, there's no way I'm going to devote the amount of time this game wants me to, so I'm definitely feeling myself fall further and further behind from the main population. Saucepolicy Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Feb 18, 2009 501 4 18 Crispy ex-game developer #8 Saucepolicy, Apr 10, 2018 It is bad because the genre has corrupted turn-based combat systems into a funnel to extract as much money as possible from its players but little else. They are little more than idle clickers with the illusion of player agency. Your progress is not your own, other than how much time and money you choose to spend. Every player is pushing towards one solution, one squad that beats the meta game, until the developers artificially change it to keep you on the treadmill. There's no sense of accomplishment, no narrative, just a neverending parade of hollow victories or appeals to the baser instincts of impatience and one-upsmanship. You might as well be playing the games in an Excel spreadsheet, since it's all about gaming a bunch of numbers anyway. Look, we all know that pleasurable experiences release dopamine and that's one big reason why we engage in them. For most people, that's not the only reason they play video games. Games like this are designed to be weaponized dopamine peddlers, with the bare-minimum gameplay necessary to obscure that fact. If that's your thing, more power to you. I am a strong believer in supporting fun F2P games with a few minor purchases...However, I think the amounts "whales" spend on these types of games to be absolutely disturbing. I believe in purchasing IAP's within moderation (according to each individual's means/funds) in games that you may enjoy. Marvel Strike Force is actually extremely playable as a f2p player. You can earn a large majority of characters just by playing the game without any luck or "lootboxes" involved. You just need to be patient and pace yourself. There is no rush. The team-building and strategy really ramps up towards mid-late game and it has been super fun. I haven't spent a dime and I don't feel like I need to. I have been earning premium currency at a steady pace and my progress has been steady as well. I am currently a member of one of the "alliances" within the game. If anyone wants to join and experience the social aspects of the game, join "The 1st Avengers". We are active and would love to have you! If I lose interest and uninstall after awhile I still feel I got my initial purchase worth of value. I am glad the game is holding up for you, that gives me hope that it might stay on my iPad for awhile. Would certainly join your Alliance but Im only lvl 17 at the moment . sirgrail Member Mar 19, 2009 9 0 0 #14 sirgrail, Apr 12, 2018 Hmmm. Yeah, it's apparently my thing as I'm enjoying the game. I understand and appreciate that you both have negative opinions about this game (and those like it), but I don't agree with any of your points. That's okay, though. It's possible you like other games that I don't. We like what we like.
