I said that half in jest. :) Going to see if I can find a publisher to help with the marketing.

This is absolutely brilliant advice. My game kinda flopped on release (10 downloads) so I'm starting a new journey learning about app promotion. Going to print your list and get busy! Oh this is also my first post. :)

This was really helpful to read. Out of curiosity how long has the game been out? I am curious to see the amount of time it takes post release and marketing efforts in regards to downloads. Thanks

Yea I totally agree with you on that one. Because you are quite experienced with marketing, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something. A friend of mine is currently developing an iOS game. He is finishing up the graphics engine, and will begin to create the actual game in the next few months. I am going to be working with him (from a marketing perspective) once the game is more developed. As such, I was wondering if it is beneficial to start accruing as much info as possible. The obvious answer is, of course, yes. However, I am not even sure what genre the game will be. Should I just do broad research into how to market rpg, platforms, rts, etc or just concentrate on learning the ins and outs of marketing and getting involved in online communities? Thanks!

  7. Very interesting and good tips! thanks for share :)

Great information! Thanks a lot for sharing! I was wondering if you could also share with us an approximation of the time invested in the marketing process. Our launch will be in december and I'm getting a bit concerned that we won't find the time to market the game before launch. We think contacting journalists, bloggers and vloggers will take 1-2 weeks. Do you think this is a realistic estimation?
Thanks again for sharing your experience! :)

very helpful post, and good descriptive information, this would prove very useful to indiedevs with limited marketing scope, getting your game out is an important aspect and undertaking this type of step would give a good recognisition and description for them to know the game exist.

Nicely detailed article and super useful. Marketing isn't easy that's for sure but it's well worth it. While reviews and some press coverage is great, community is definitely the most important. Creating a community around your game and brand is what will keep the numbers rising. I'm still trying to do that part myself. It's a long process but absolutely worth it!

  12. Wait, why is ASO a waste of time? I've been reading about this recently and I don't have the opinion yet. Perhaps it's because of a little moves you can actually make.
Here's an article I found clearing the issue: https://blog.kissmetrics.com/app-store-optimization/
but you might have already known all this.

Anyways, great post. It's useful to see the whole process/case study of the app marketing.
    Thanks and good luck.
