How about annoying moments? I always hated how a few games would employ this crazy tactic of sending you back a few levels when you got right to the end of a game (Ghosts 'N Goblins, anyone?)

So have you actually seen the movie that bears the same name as this game?

Box art looks awesome. If you ever do a PC release you should get some printed and ship em out.

Given it a bit of a graphical overhaul to appear more NES-like and less GBC-like. Note the brown outlines etc.

Another little homage to the old NES games, I always used to be amused by the fact that they'd always use a space followed by two exclamation marks.

    Big reveals later this week!

Love the look of this one, i know 'some' kids nowadays will think 'graphics look bad, why make this game look old....' but its all about the gameplay. The graphics give you a great nostalgic memory from the past but i hope kids dont dismiss these types of games.

I still play a lot of old NES/Master System games as the gameplay is still top notch to this day.

This games totally reminding me of that, cant wait to try it.

Yeah I really love how this game looks so much like the classic NES games. I got really excited because my Dad visited me and brought me some boxes of my stuff from when I was a kid which included my old NES with all the Super Mario brothers and a few other classics, it was like Christmas in May! Now we just need a way to hook the nes controller up to iOS device to play this!

Although the source is slightly obscure and the game looks cool I cring every time I see the title because it seems so unoriginal to name the game directly after a cheesy public domain horror movie.

But how many people know that ? I never knew there was a 'cheesy public domain horror movie' called that so it doesnt ruin it for me.

I think it would be pretty rad/hilarious if you referenced the day-to-night system from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. Also it would be pretty cool if you added little unneccessary minigames like in Back to the Future. :p

Heheh! Well we have been trying to find somewhere to shoehorn the line "What a horrible night to have a curse" into the script somewhere...

It's an adaptation of that film. The characters and story are all from the film, we wanted to adapt a movie in the way developers used to adapt movies on the NES, and we picked MANOS. We wanted to make fun of the way those games were adapted whilst also paying tribute to it. Say I dunno, Home Alone 2 for example, the game just takes anything you might find in a hotel and turns it into an enemy/hazard - evil floating lamps, vacuum cleaners etc. etc., the way games worked then meant the only way to adapt the movie was to take everything present in that movie and make it out to get the character. We've gone for the same for MANOS, I have a soft spot for the film and how fantastically awful it is, this project just seemed perfect for FZ!

Personally, I think it's a fitting choice. After all, could you really take a horror game seriously with NES style graphics???

Say what you will but pixel Jason in NES Friday the 13th was scary especially with the night time tinting and haunting bit music along with urgency placed in finding him.

I can respect the game more knowing it is a direct attempt at remaking the movie into a game. It may interest you to read about this guy's attempt to raise funds to restore Manos: Hands of Fate to high definition quality; maybe you two can gang up. I've never seen the movie so will have to check it out. I know Mystery Science Theater 3K edition is on Netflix and surely Youtube. I think it would help promote the game to make the connection to the film more explicit instead of hinting as similar projects/movies.

...perhaps we have been missing out and would enjoy the game more if we were well versed in the source.

Thanks undeadcow :) Yeah, we're sort of in touch with the Manos in HD guy, he follows me on tumblr and things, and we show updates on the game through some MST3K blogs. On our tumblr and MST3K sites we refer to the movie more explicitly, on sites like this there aren't going to be many fans of the films so we're selling it to you guys as a retro plstformer, since it's aimed both at "fans" of the film and at retro game fans. ;-)

This is a really neat idea! From the screenshots the game looks really legit art-wise =D.
I'm kinda torn though when it comes to gameplay, it would be cool if the game played like the old "movieadaptiongames" wich you have as inspiration. But at the same time, all of those games really sucked gameplay wise haha.
It will be very interesting to see how things turn out =)
best of luck to you !!

Nah its okay ! To be fair i learned something as i didnt know the title of the game was based on that film. But the film seems to be some terrible horror film and as much as i like my horror films i dont want to waste my life watching some terrible one (Got far too much to watch anyway).

But roll on the release of this game, really looking forward to it as i liked his last game a lot.

    THE ENEMIES OF MANOS:

No retro game would be complete without hordes of evil monsters and villains to impede your progress, and MANOS: The Hands of Fate is no exception! So what horrible creatures will Mike have to face in the mobile game?

Here are just a few of the many monstrous beasts you will have to do battle with in MANOS!

Killer Shrew: These mutated pests patrol the halls, ready to have Mike for lunch!

Crawling Hand: Not to be confused with any ‘thing’, these severed appendages scuttle around the floors looking for revenge.

Screaming Skull: It’s a skull, and it screams. You’ll find these haunting monstrosities floating around the halls, following a challenging wave pattern to catch Mike off-guard.

Troll: They’re going to eat you! OH MY GOOOOOOOODDDD!!!!

Hobgoblin: These bouncy little brats like to leap around and make life hell for anybody entering their territory.

Robot Monster: One of the game’s bosses, this hellish beast-machine hybrid will ruin your day with its razor-sharp claws and deadly bubble-machine.

Yes, each of the enemies presented here (and many more in the game) pay homage to famous bad movies. Do you know them all?
