AAAAAARGH!!!! is any one else extremely excited for this game!!! Also I would like for it to be unlimited blocks deep but I also agree that it is good with boundaries sooo maybe you could adjust it or something?
Its in the app description RAGE HD Me and some other teams using UDK (Unreal Engine 3) found out the hard way when the apps we worked so hard on for iPhone 4 were rejected the first time
Oh, an alpha The word that set me off was demo. But I wouldn't think anyone would release an alpha or beta into the app store, but rather an invite.
Thanks for the heads up about that but our app works on 3rd gen ipod touchs as mentionned in a previous post.
I would like to play this now. I love MineCraft so obviously that's why I'm drawn to it. BTW, it is possible to get permission to sell apps in the appstore that don't support 3rd Gen devices. Considering iOS 5 and iPhone 5 are just around the corner, I would be willing bet that getting permission to do so will get much easier.
Infinite blocks will be cool. I mean how many games on iphone have infinite anything? We might as well start with this.
I must say, initially I thought 'minecraft clone, cool anyways' and then I took some time to read a bit of this thread and saw that you actually have some big plans for this game, which is very impressive. I am actually quite excited for this! Consider me a new fan.
ya it would... minecraft was fun because u had to get some minerals by urself which makes u experience adventure and exploration...
There needs to be bedrock to give the game a feeling of control, unlimited blocks would just be too sandbox, not taken serious. What I liked about a certain mining game involving craft was the fact you knew you had to dig near the bedrock for diamonds and columns of gold or obsidian. You knew if you hugged the bedrock you'd find them. Without that boundary the fun stops, you just dig down forever no clues as to where ore and diamonds may be. I hope people can see it from this perspective.
Deathlock and Jdragoon, I think you may be a bit confused. When we're talking about 'unlimited blocks' I think it refers to the conversation by instabuy where he mentions that should you be able to dig down with no limits (hense 'unlimited blocks') or whether there should be bedrock preventing you from going further
Hrmm.. I didn't think there would be much opposition to this feature. The problem from my point of view is that dungeons in my game are not going to be in any way similar to Minecraft. In my game dungeons would be a series of rooms connected by hallways and staircases with mobs in them. There would be many dungeons in the game some that are quest based, some not. The difficulty in making the game height like Minecraft which only has a depth of 128 is that i could only fit about a dozen or so dungeons levels in that space (less actually because mountains take about half of that). I would need at least a world height of about 2048 - 4096 in order to make dungeons be the size I want. Otherwise there will be no real feeling of accomplishment or depth to the dungeons themselves.
What's wrong with unlimited blocks? Most of the mega projects in Minecraft are impeded by the height limit.
I think the game should have "infinite depth". It would allow Instabuy the ability for more dungeons, which sound awesome btw, as well as make that feeling of being underground all the more prominent. And in relation to the depth of ores and such, they don't necessarily have to be defined by depth, but maybe by proximity (or distance away from), specific things. For example, diamonds can be found next to lava, as well as coal. Iron is found at least 20 blocks from the surface, etc... Also infinite depth would make for cool underground systems! And if pitfalls were to be in the game, they should go at least 50-100, if not more. Sinkholes/pitfalls in real life are not only very big, but very deep. Anyways, nice update!
When you say lots of opposition, I would only say that it was me. I like to know that I can get diamonds or minerals at a certain level, to give purpose for hunting ores rather than randomly dig down. Perhaps to overcome this, once you get a certain depth the stone changes to a darker colour. So you know that the more rarer materials are around this level or under. You've put you heart and soul into this, you've got big (and good) plans for this. Please the masses and not the few, I'm buying it regardless!
