Yeah. Notch is okay with these type of 'similar' games as long as it doesn't include the same coding as Minecraft. Plus, Minecraft wasn't entirely 'original' in the first place either. You think Minecraft was the only game out there to feature building with cubes?
There have been a lot of games that have used voxels. The comanche series used them for their terrain rendering. Infiniminer (correct me if I'm wrong) was the first use of the large scale voxel blocks. My first encounter with voxel programming was the mars.exe demo. I was blown away by it, it was about 3kb and was blazingly fast on my 25 mhz 386. Here is what the mars.exe looked like. So in short, no, voxels are not exactly an original idea but what I think has happened is that Notch has created a new 'genre' of game. Sort of like how Wolf3D started the FPS craze.
That's cool, but I think the blatancy of there being a 4 letter word that starts with M, and 'craft' that follows is apparent, no?
Like Instabuy says in this threads first post, the name is little more than an awesome placeholder so if you can think of a better one that fits...
Ohh I didn't read that part. I guess after he finishes the game, we can talk about that. Some people name their game after they finish it.
Hard to say it's not mine craft while looking at the screenshots, but I guess the gameplay will be different.
We are open to any suggestions you may have for the name. Anyone who comes up with a name awesome enough to replace the placeholder ManaCraft will get in the beta and receive all Instabuy products forever for free!
How about ManaCube. It's close to what you have, is descriptive, catchy, it's got all the right elements. I'll see what else I can come up with. Edit: Blockemy, you know, like alchemy except with blocks Edit: Elemental Cube, Mystic Brick/Cube/Block, Blocks of (Might and) Magic <-- just kidding about the part in "()"
