It's true, but that plethora of ideas is just for you to think about.

I am SO glad I found this thread, this game is looking great. One thing I wonder if would be possible is some form of mechanisms engine that would allow you to make things like water pumps and water wheels etc, so say for example you could channel the water which powered a wheel, allowing you to have a pump to draw water up to higher levels and power other tools for the crafting, such as millstones or hatches, doors etc .. ? I suppose in a similar way to dwarf fortress?

Anybody know the kind of thing what I mean and explain in in a better way?!

Please reply to this Instabuy :)

This sounds like a very good idea

All through this thread people have been suggesting power and electricity, but I think this is better as it links lots of things in. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I would like to hear Instabuy's opinion on this, but if we had a water wheel, that we could make using magic, that pumped water out of the river/sea/lake, through pipes, or even underground pipes, into houses. The water being pumped in would then power something, like minecarts?

Hey, I'm glad you like it and I'm glad you understood exactly what I was thinking :) I too would be VERY interested in hearing Instabuy's view on it.
If this system was implemented, not only would I pay alot of money for it, I would probably end up buying an iPad for it as well. Wouldn't be the first time I have bought hardware to play one game - first time I did that was Crazy Taxi, I bought a Dreamcast purely for that one game :D Come on Instabuy, make me buy an ipad!!

Great ideas by the way :)
Please keep producing these kinds of awesome ideas because theyre fun to read and I think they could help make the game better :)

Thank you, my choise of username comes from a piece of creative writing I had to do when I was doing GCSE english..

Thanks, glad my idea made sense, I couldn't think of another way of explaining it.

The reason this game excites me is I have an obsession with water, the way it flows and what you can do as a result of that - When I was 7 I used to dig rivers down the length of my garden, filling a bucket with water and watch it it run..
So I like the idea water playing a part of crafting and as power source and a way of transporting raw materials in boats, but also for decoration - I want to be able to use water wheels to draw water up to the top of a mountain, to have it cascade back down in the route that I have designed.

I'm going back to thinking about other ideas now :)

    Hi again Randoof

I think earlier I mentioned springs on the the top of mountains that flowed into streams, rivers, lakes sea etc. Now you mention it, being able to create your own rivers would be really cool. You would have to dig the outline first, and then release the water. Whether this is from spring or water pumps, you could create rivers that flowed through your house, or other things.

    Exactly!

Ok, so thinking along the lines of Dwarf Fortress..
    Floodgates, trapdoors and grates

    Switches (weight activated floor switches)
    Triggers that can be pulled

You then have the opportunity to set up traps to trap and kill mobs, setup moats around your dwelling and flood areas ready for farming etc.

That's a complete rip from Dwarf Fortress and not my own ideas, but I would love something along those lines.

I need to re-read through the entire thread now to make sure I'm not repeating ideas.

You have some really good ideas there

So are you talking about a switch which control water flow? This might work, although if a river is blocked off, would it stop flowing above the blockage, and the rest of the water below the blockage flow away, or would the water run around the blockage? If rivers are to be included in Manacraft, these details will have to worked out.
Will infinite water sources be included?
Will water soak into some materials like sand?
If water flows into a lake from a infinate water source, does the lake overflow, or will it fill untill it reachs the bank of the lake?

    Added numbers.

The problem I found with infinite water was that even if I force it to never flood above a certain level (so the world doesn't get flooded) you can still dig up into it and flood the entire cave/base with water.

What I might be able to do is have a spell to turn flowing water into water sources. What do you think of that?

The way I imagined it, if a river is blocked off, it would stop if the floodgate is at the same level as the water, to be honest I wasn't imagining an infinite source so there wouldn't be a problem with overflow, I was imagine chanelling from a pool and then recycling the water. So for example you might have channel with a water wheel that powers a pump to pump the water back into the source pool. That water wheel could have a "connection" on either side, one that goes to power the pump, and one that could power a craft workshop.

I like that idea. Does the iphone have enough power to allow it? Or could you make it so the spell wears off after a while?

I'm so excited about this game.

    I'm guessing it's a pressure pad correct me if I'm wrong :)

Sounds good. You could also have it, and this is a bit tougher to accomplish, that the water that you dug up into would start depleting since it is flowing into the cave. But that would kinda run many fun possibilities with water. Anyways, it's just a thought.
