Did you even read what I said? They are NOT helping AT ALL. They are hindering the whole aid/rescue operation. People need water, food, shelter and money to live. What use is a bible (except burning it to keep warm)? And what makes it worse is the fact that transporting these electronic bibles could be used to transport aid which actually saves lives. It also creates more chaos when the bibles arrive, when trying to distribute them, while real charities are trying to distribute aid that actually saves lives. You obviously value the bible more than people's lives.
"I just sent a bunch of eating utensils to a country that's starving. At least I'm helping." What you just said? Sounded just as stupid.
If they really wanted to send a message of hope, they'd provide support, not a Bible. Or make it a two-part package: Bible and food, shelter, etc. Tell me how a Bible is going to do them any good if they're bleeding to death, or have no home. Giving them hope's appropriate for its own time. That time is after the support is given. Not now.
The most important thing is to stay alive, right? Which is better? Hope, followed by death. or Living. As I said before, people need water, food, shelter, money etc a lot more than they need 'hope'. First of all the money that could be used on essential survival aid (such as water and food) is wasted on these electronic bibles. Then they are transported all the way to Haiti, when essential aid could have been transported instead. Then when they arrive in Haiti, it creates more chaos, drains the already poor infrastructure, and gets in the way of true charities who are trying to administer actual aid such as water, food, money that can actually save lives. And why the hell do these people need bibles anyway? The majority of Haiti is Christian anyway, they are likely to own bibles already. Why the hell are they attempting to proselytize these already-Christian people? If you think that sending bibles and other useless crap is a good thing, there is clearly something wrong with you.
Of course everyone should ideally be taught first aid, but what if you find yourself in a situation where you have not been taught how to deal with it, whether it's first aid or something different? What if you're stranded in the woods and you don't know whether the plant you are intending to eat actually is poisonous or not? Having apps that can help in any emergency situation is a great idea.
If you ask me, sending bibles to dying people sounds like they're basically just saying "yeah, you're totally f***ed, so read this and try to cheer up before you die horribly".
I was talking about the first aid app. People should know these things, they're basic. At this rate people in the year 2020 are going to need the iPhone 8G to teach them how to change a light bulb because they never bothered etching it into their brain.
As a Christian I have to admit that was a weird move. Isn't that what missionaries are for? Sending live people there to preach and help the victims emotionally?
