Thanks, Art -- some questions if you have a chance 1) For the levels, that's not actually how it's supposed to work. The levels should go 1 "Burning Canyons" => 2 "Brightwater Oasis" => 3 "Zig Zag" .. which then unlocks the first split, to 4a "Wavy Gravy" or 4b "All Fall Down." However, those should all show up as completed (with a flag icon) rather than uncompleted (crossed swords). If that's not how it was behaving for you, there's definitely some bug going on! 2) Can you let me know which part in levels 3 or 4 hit you? Level balance is something we're always looking to tweak, so knowing things like "it was when a flock of 12 birds suddenly ran through," or whatever, would definitely help us! 3) We do like the ideas of deck filters, and we'll work to get some of that in for a game patch!
This game is seriously awesome, I've been playing it for a couple of hours and I'm hooked. The tower defence part of the game is cool but not really any different than other TD games, it's the cards which set this apart, collecting/combining and making your deck is really cool. Also I just unlocked online play where you make your own offence deck and you can defend against other people's decks. For me this really takes the tower defence genre up a notch and stand out as being the best TD game (at least for me) It's also nice to see that the gems are really easy to come by, Well worth picking this up. One thing I'd say needs added, there should be a link to your offence deck along the bottom of the deck edit screen, There's defence, the magic guy and the shop but no link to your offence deck?
Hey, thanks, oooooomonkey! Logging in and finding your post made us smile a whole bunch today. Also, for you -- or anyone here in the forums -- we're trying to keep on top of the thread so that we can hear about any issues (balance, crashes, or whatnot) that come up. So if there are things about Man at Arms that annoy or confuse you, or you just have requests for new content, post it here and we'll add it to our list!
1. Yeah, after the tutorial battle, I saw the option to do Burning Canyons and Brightwater Oasis. I did Brightwater Oasis, and Zig Zag didnt unlock. I had to go back and do Burning Canyons to unlock it. At that point Zig Zag AND something else unlocked, or at least I thought so. 2. I dont know that it was anything specific. Its just a little tight before you unlock more space. I did figure the levels out after a coule tries.
No problems so far I've done probably the first 8'ish levels (can't check I've got it paused half way through a level) and I started on normal but then noticed you get a check for doing each setting so I've gone back to the start and I'm going through on novice too. There's just something about collecting cards and building decks that really hooks me and this is doing that very well. I quite like how you don't know what you'll get for combining cards, give it a little surprise feeling of ooooo what will I get this time, might be worth pointing out that I'm only ever combining cards I've got doubles of or that I don't want. For £3 this is a bargain.
I'm confused. This last level, I got as a new card Drakelets. It doesnt seem to show up anywhere. I previously got as a new card some type of gruff monster, which doesnt show up either. What is going on?
Are there any set rules for combining? Ie. Merge 4 barracks you have 100% chance to get barracks merge 2 barracks and 1 outpost and 1 tusker, do you have 50%, 25% 25% respectively of getting a different version of each card? or is it more random than that? Ive hit somewhat of a wall and am trying hard to kick some kickass cards to start moving again.
Awesome. Glad you've been enjoying it! And I do need to put up more information about card combining. I tend to be very conservative, only combining things I know I have extras of, whereas my programming partner Mike combines things like crazy all the time. He still mainly kicks my ass, although once or twice he's totally shot himself in the foot and lost a card her loved.
That's our fault for not explaining well (there should really be a pop-up message about that). Basically, once you hit level 5 or so, you start getting offensive cards (monsters, mainly) as well as defensive cards. They're used in the asynchronous player-v-player stuff: if you go to the Offensive Decks area, you can create a deck with your own monsters and spells, and then other players can defend against it. Both you and they earn gems when that happens. Or, if online play isn't your thing, you can just sell them all in the shop, and use the gems to get more defensive cards.
Those are offensive cards. You don't play them in the normal campaign. You use them to build an offensive deck so when people do a level online instead of the normal way, they get matched with people like you and the offensive deck you built is used for the waves of monsters. As you beat more levels and encounter more monsters, they get added to your offensive cards. Hope that made an ounce of sense
You pretty much have it right: if you combine 4 barracks cards, you're guaranteed to get a barracks card as the output. However, that's only true to a degree: you could combine 4 L2 barracks cards, but end up with a new L3 barracks card. Beyond that, it's pretty much like you say -- if you combine 1 barracks card and 3 gruffs, you're likely to get a gruff, but you might get a building. The more varied the cards are that you put in, the more random the output -- a barracks, a gruff, an ability card, and an effect card might turn into almost anything. Other than that, if you combined 4 white cards, you'd probably get a green card. Combine greens and you'll tend to get an orange, then purple, then gold ... basically, the higher value / more special the input cards are, the fancier card you'll get as a result. Also, if you don't care bout online play, one kinda cheat is to just sell a bunch of your monster cards for gems, and then use those to get new card packs.
Not sure if this was answered. Card packs will only show up if you have the correct amount of gems. The highest I have seen is rare card packs for 1500. I think this should be changed to show what you can buy instead of only showing if you have the correct amount of gems as I was confused as well at first.
Yeah, we totally agree -- we'll make it so all the packs show up, just with a padlock or something on them. That way you'll always be able to see what you can get.
You are very welcome! This is helping us figure out things to explain either online, or directly in-game, so it's a two-way street!
Hey, if anyone's interested, ConquistaDork just put up a pretty amusing review of Man at Arms on their site: http://conquistadork.net/2014/01/29/run-piggie-run-thoughts-on-man-at-arms/ .. I have to admit, the idea that we have a smelly barnyard kingdom is really pretty accurate!
148apps also reviewed the game weeks ago. That's where I initially discovered the game. There should be more reviews! TA should review this. Such an awesome game. Anyway, just wondering. Any chance of newly discovered/acquired cards to highlight/glow on the deck builder just so we can easily identify which card are the new ones? Then the highlight/glow will disappear once touched. Just a thought. Can't wait to see the update with all those tweaks, improvements and enhancements! EDIT: Just crafted my first card, so happy with the result.
If anyone wants to add me on game centre for the challenge a friend thing feel free to add me, Oooooomonkey
Yeah, I really enjoyed the 148apps review, also! The idea of glowing (or something) new cards, to have them show up more obviously in the deck editor, is a good one! Not sure if that'll make the next patch, but I'll definitely add it to our list. Yay for crafting success! Much better than a result of, "Ack! I destroyed my card for this piece of crud?!?"
No worries, please do take your time. So much content to finish/clear anyway. I'm now at Into the Deep level (between work and Hearthstone, kind of hard to find time) but I'm slowly getting there. Indeed. I think it was the 'investment' card that gave me something like 17% more gold. Moar is better!
