Have you got any of the Wildfire cards? I was combining a bunch of phoenixes and got the third rank of them. Its cool
I think it might be called engulfing flames. It is seen during the tutorial to finish off the last guys.
Is there any way to purposefully get certain cards or is it pretty much just all random drops / random buys etc
It's all just the probabilities, I'm afraid. You can weight them a bunch (play the very early levels to get the simplest cards, or always combine reinforcement cards to get other reinforcement cards, or that kind of thing), but yeah -- there's never a way to directly get an "Engulfing Flames" card, or anything like that.
Okay with that in mind, the more cards you combine the higher level the card? is green the best rank of card or does it get better as I advance in the game?
Do I need to do anything special to buy cards from the shop? I've unlocked it but all I seem to be able to do us increase the size of my deck.....
Today's release day looks pretty poor so I'll likely just be sticking to this. I always use double barracks on any level if I can find a choke point and use to use fire archers there but now I use a death Mage or storm Mage at the point. Death mages seem great at killing all small flying enemies but I still always have a fire archer tower as they seem to slaughter everything else. At the minute I haven't had much luck with great spells or anything but using storm card, the bird, 2 red shirts and mud golems. On my previous game I did have better spells like that engulfing flame and explosive arrows for all archers. Right now though archers on bridges card is pretty handy. Generally I use my choke points with 2 barracks and then spam all my summons at the same spot and generally next to nothing gets through but that depends on the level design of course. I love KR and KR frontiers I'd probably say it's still my favourite but I'd say this has overtaken Fieldrunners 2 for me and I probably have spent longer playing this now than KR.
As much as I love Man at Arms, both KRs are still my fav TD games. Spent countless hours on both and still do as I have a few Iron Challenges left. But Man at Arms definitely comes behind them, on the phone at least. Pixeljunk Monsters is another personal fav, but that is on the PS3. I dont like the Fieldrunners games as much, guess its due to the fact it has no fixed paths, I dislike TD games in which you have to build the path yourself. Defense Grid is an exception for me. Anyway, back to Man at Arms.
Since there's nothing out tonight that I'm interested in and I've been checking this out, I'm making this my purchase this week, the card part of it is what has me interested as I'm a sucker for collecting cards. Downloading now (iPad version)
Amazing TD game, I am thoroughly enjoying it. Just another note for wanting the card combining to be a little clearer for what I cam getting into with it. I'm not expert at these games by far. Criss Cross level is stuck at one star, driving me crazy.
Comments: (1) I was confused because after the tutorial I did the second level, and the third wouldnt unlock. It turns out that after you do the tutorial, two new levels unlock at once and the tutorial doesnt show up as completed on the map. This should be changed, I cant be the only one it confused; (2) There is an odd mini-spike in difficulty on lvls 3 and 4, before the store is unlocked. I had to retry a few times to get past, and then the next levels were easy after expanding my deck size. So that should be tweaked. (3) the deck management UI is not good. Filters to see what you have in your deck would be great. Other than that, enjoying it so far. The collecting aspect adds something nice to the mix.
So, yes for number of cards: the more cards you combine (up to the current max of 4), the better your card will be. The colors currently go: White: plain card; no real bonuses Green: Some magic enhancement. Orange: Fairly fancy impressive card Purple: excellent (very rare) card, great bonuses Yellow-with-sparkles: epic card, super bonuses. The further you progress through the game, the more powerful cards will tend to drop automatically for you.
Sorry for the confusion on that -- if you go to the shop when you have enough gems available (200+, I think), it should show packs like "3 Common Cards" and such. Right now we completely hide those options, which might be why you're not seeing them -- instead we should show them, and mark them as locked, so that you can see how expensive it would be.
Thanks, guys -- we love the KR games as well, so we certainly can't fault anyone for that! Assuming that Man at Arms does well enough to keep paying our rent, we'll keep adding in new levels, monsters, cards, along with fixing bugs, so that it'll get more polished over time. Until we rule the world! Whoops, was that out loud?
Also, I've mentioned this earlier in the thread, but it may have gotten buried -- for anyone who purchases the iPad version (especially since it has the editor), but would like the iPhone/iPod Touch version as well, let me know (you can e-mail me at [email protected]), and we'll gift you the phone version so that you'll have it for all your devices. We made them separate apps because there were just so many differences to deal with, but we never meant for people to have to pay twice for the same game!
Glad you're liking it! And yeah, I'm going to try to do things for card combining: (1) make a page on the website with detailed information and images, and (2) try to give some more in-game information that will help people know what's going to happen. Criss Cross is definitely one of the tough earlier levels, especially when the flying drakes wander through, and you're cursing at your archer towers to kill them, dang it!
