Hey there! Sorry for the silence on this front -- when iOS 8 came out, it broke a bunch of our games, and we've spent about 8 weeks updating assorted other apps to make them work properly. We've finally gotten back on track for Man at Arms updates. As a heads-up, it includes both free stuff and new paid content stuff. In particular, it has: * New towers (free) * New abilities (free) * "Ice Age" expansion pack (paid, probably $1.99), which will most likely include: - About a dozen new levels in a snowy map theme - New ice age monsters (mammoth, smilodons, etc.) - New ice age towers and defenders ... along with the ever-present bug fixes and such. For anyone who is interested, we'll try to use Apple's new beta-testing system to let existing players from these forums test out the new content and give us feedback. Anything you test there is obviously free, regardless of whether it has a price in the final version.
I'll come back in ... probably about a week, and get more information from people. In general, for anyone who is interested, I'll need you to e-mail me (you can use [email protected]) with the e-mail address you use for your Apple ID. At least at the start, we'll be beta-testing only the iPad, so you'll need an iPad that's able to run Man at Arms. After that ... we haven't actually used the new Apple system yet, so we'll set things up and see what problems we encounter!
Omg lmao. I missed your artwork. I guess I don't get why yours had to be redone. Looks like they just traced yours....
Yeah, exactly! Back in the day, I worked with my friend doing his web comic, Sluggy Freelance (I highly recommend it at http://sluggy.com) .. when he was sick or something, I'd sometimes fill in with stick-figure artwork, and I got feedback like, "Oh my gosh, your artwork is so terrible I'm tasting metal and seeing spots!" That always made me crack up.
Silly Request Hi, folks, If anyone is still reading this thread, I have a silly, somewhat embarrassing request. But, so it goes. Short version -- I posted on Reddit a day ago to let existing players know they can help us beta test if we want. Sadly, the main reply we got was that our game uses network tracking and is evil spyware, and that it's a crappy game anyhow. (You can read the thread http://www.reddit.com/r/iosgaming/comments/2p0mje/man_at_arms_td_testing/ if you're interested). I've been spending some long days recently trying to add new content and fix bugs, and honestly, reading that just kind of defeated me today -- it's pretty tempting to just stop putting any more work into the game, and go out and get a high-paying job as a generic iOS programmer. I know, I need a thicker skin on these things. But anyway ... if you've played Man at Arms at all, and have enjoyed it, if you're able to just post me a smiley face or send a note or something ... doesn't need to be an essay. I just ... want to know that people who *like* the game are out there, and that there's a reason we keep trying to add new stuff to the game. Thanks, all. --Tom
There will sadly always be people out there putting you down for no reason especially when it's online and they can hide away. The game is great, I haven't played in a while but loved it when it was released and if there is more content I'd likely install it again to play more. The card mechanic made it really addictive for me as I love anything where you can make things more your own and rpg esq. keep up the good work!
Tom, I just read through your Reddit thread, and must say that I'm pretty disgusted. Not towards you or your game; you seem like a developer who genuinely cares about their game and it's players, as evidenced by your interaction with the TA community as well as the overall high quality of Man at Arms TD. My disgust comes from that Reddit user who decided that your game was some sort of corporate Trojan horse. He sounds like someone who barely played the game but still thought he knew enough to trash it. I would say "criticize" instead of trash, but he barely mentions the gameplay, and instead seems obsessed with spyware and imaginary conspiracies. A cynic such as that adds nothing to the conversation, or the game. Personally, I bought the iPad version months ago, and it remains one of my all-time favorite TD games. The card crafting mechanic still feels unique, and adds to the overall depth and replay value. The TD mechanics combine the tried and true with the new. And the look and feel of the game ooze with charm, polish, and love. So, in closing, when I think of a game like Man at Arms TD, with a developer like you, all I can do is #. Thank you for making this game.
Tom, Plain and simple, this person is trolling you, it hit a nerve, and unfortunately you gave him what he wanted. He (I'll assume a guy) used his general technical knowledge to look through a plist file, coupled with a dystopian view of the lack of privacy on the internet, and made an uneducated guess at your intentions. He's the guy at the party throwing tech buzzwords around and shoving his know-it-all agendas down people's throat. He is an asshole. I thought your game was fantastic. To combine the TD w/ a card system you could combine and upgrade (which had very clever and fun elements to it), made playing levels again new and fun. I think you did a great job, I was thoroughly impressed, and must have been judging by the amount of time I spent playing. I'm a developer too (not iOS games though... would be nice). But keep your head up, this guy just caught you off guard and found a weak spot, then kept poking. As I stated, he's an asshole. One of many. You have nothing to defend yourself for. You gave him a generous long and detailed response to which he trolled (is this a verb now?) you even harder, and you fed the troll, trying to recover, change his mind... he's not there to reasonably argue, there's no mind changing for him. Just move on and remember he is an asshole. Don't feed the trolls
Thanks to each of you -- you guys are awesome. And Birnbe, you're right -- that was totally a troll comment, and I fell for it completely. You'd think I would know better by now! For everyone who's posted here and sent notes, I wanted to let you know that it made a huge difference. I shouldn't have been dwelling on it so much to begin with; it's been grey and rainy here a bunch recently, and that forum post somehow did hit a nerve. Getting these posts back from you guys is exactly what I needed to get my head back on straight. Thank you all *very* much for writing -- now I can get back to focusing on the new Ice Age content (better name forthcoming!).
Stamp of Approval Meant to add this to the previous post: War-Mammoth gives you guys foot-stamp of approval!
Hey Tricket, i got the game some time ago and just started playing last weekend on my iPad (i blame it on my huge backlog...) and i haven´t been that entertained with a Tower Defense for a long time. I only followed this thread every now and then in the past and forgot most comments, so everytime i unlock something like fusing cards or the multiplayer i´m like "Wow! Neat!". So i had to chime in and congrat and most of all thank you very much for such a pleasant and entertaining experience. I´m really looking forward to what else this game and maybe future releases have in store.
