This is apparently the week of TD games, makes me happy. I'm going to pick up the iPad version for $4.99. Edit: Appshopper says the iPad version has been available since Dec. 14, I don't know how I missed it. Also worth noting that the level editor in the video is not in the pocket edition, you have to get the iPad version to get the level editor, personally that makes me feel a little better about spending more than twice the price for the iPad version. aconfusedkender Well-Known Member Sep 28, 2012 1,362 122 63 Oil & Gas Kendermore, Ansalon #3 aconfusedkender, Jan 24, 2014 Looks interesting enough! The deck building element adds a lot of depth to the usual TD formula. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good defense game. Lately after playing Kingdom Rush, I feel like all the other TDs are lacking in smooth animation :\ Anyhow that's only judging from the video. I'm curious about the length and the amount of different types of units. The card idea sounds cool but that makes me think there should be a huge variety of different types of units, more so than other TDs. I hope anyone that has played it could answer these questions. sugimulm Well-Known Member Aug 28, 2010 2,457 46 48 The last time zone for iOS game releases :( #7 sugimulm, Jan 25, 2014 Just judging from a few minutes of play, looks like KR. Same type of towers, barracks, archer, Mage, and artillery, but the card element adds more to it. As for animations, very similar to KR. Just remember, few minutes of play, need to head out now, lol. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #8 L.Lawliet, Jan 25, 2014 Thanks for that! I'd love to be proven wrong (that means the game is good). I'm probably gonna take a dip later tonight but it'd be nice to hear impressions from forum members ojtitus Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2010 3,228 5 38 Male Canton, Ohio #9 ojtitus, Jan 25, 2014 The unit variety is probably this games strongest suit as there are lots of different units to choose from as you get into the game you will get lots of different unit cards. There is a different card for each upgrade level of each unit type and there is variety even in the different levels of the same type of unit. I recently just got a new card from combining cards and I got level 2 barracks card that has an archer on top of the barracks, which is not the norm as barracks are melee towers and the first ones you'll get don't have archers on them. There is a lot variety even just in the cards such as the cost to deploy the tower, the amount the card costs to have in your deck, and the amount of damage the troops from the tower will do. Sorry I don't have more time to explain it all but I want to get it is kind of late here and I need to get to bed. sugimulm Well-Known Member Aug 28, 2010 2,457 46 48 The last time zone for iOS game releases :( #10 sugimulm, Jan 25, 2014 No problem, glad to assist. I just can't believe some devs would lock out older devices for whatever reason and force it into ios7 especially since games like KR run perfectly fun. I'm Tom, one of the designers. Yeah, we love our level editor, but just couldn't make it work on the phone -- too tiny and too frustrating. If anyone ends up buying the iPad version for the level editor, but wants the phone version as well, send me a note at [email protected] and I'll gift you Phone version. We felt bad about not being able to make it universal, but there were just too many things that diverged to really make it make sense. tricket Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2010 287 0 0 #18 tricket, Jan 25, 2014 iOS 7 Reasons Hi, all. I'm Tom, one of the developers (sorry I keep typing that here; figure I should make it obvious). I'm sorry about the whole iOS 7 requirement. Usually we go the reverse way: most of our games just needed iOS 3.x for the longest time, because we wanted to make sure everyone could play our games. This time, we started with the iPad version (which needs 5.x), and then went back to make the iPhone version. We found that we could make it fun, but it was right at the edge of usability. The worst case were the iPhone 4 devices, because they lost out on even *more* screen real estate. What we really wanted to do was say, "widescreen/iPhone-5 only, please," because we figured that people with an iPhone 4 might get the game and be sad ... which is bad because they'd pay for a game they didn't like, and also because it'd get returns and bad reviews for us. There wasn't a way to do that, though, so we ended up saying "iOS 7+" to make it more likely that we got people with wider/newer phones. So, that's my apology. I don't know that we made the right call. If you think I didn't, feel free to talk about it here, or e-mail me directly at [email protected] -- we were trying to do it to make things better for people in general ... but it might have been a misfire. tricket Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2010 287 0 0 #19 tricket, Jan 25, 2014 Basic game info My disclaimer / helpful note: I'm Tom, one of the game designers. Take that for good or ill! Just wanted to say -- we have just over two dozen levels in the game, and about 150 cards (although some of those are only slightly different, so probably more like 120 truly different cards). Those have the different units and spells and such, so we're hoping it provides a bunch of gameplay. We'll also be having three new units and about half a dozen new levels coming out with our next patch (1.1 for the phone, 1.3 for the iPad), and we're hoping people will start sharing levels made with the iPad level editor (we have a "share with e-mail" button directly there, but you can also just post them online and download them into the game). If people do have questions or thoughts on the game, feel free to ask me, or e-mail me at [email protected]. Otherwise I'll try to not butt in too much ... basically, I want to be helpful, without coming across as over-protective parent! ;-) tricket Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2010 287 0 0 #20 tricket, Jan 25, 2014 We do love KR! My disclaimer again: I'm Tom, one of the developers! I realized I hadn't mentioned -- one of the reasons we decided to make this game was that we were huge KR fans, and wanted more levels, but they didn't make any (they have now, by the way -- both additional levels, plus KR: Frontiers, which I highly recommend if you haven't grabbed it). Our dev team worked at Blizzard North back in the day, for Diablo II, and so when we wanted to make something different than just a KR clone, we love the whole prefixes/suffixes kind of thing. We built that into the card system, so that you'd in effect have a "Tom's Barracks of Healing" or whatever. We ended up showing the effects on the cards with icons and numbers, and ... while it makes the game complex, hopefully the players we're targeting will enjoy it!
