I agree with karma too. I don't care for or like freemium games either. "It's only a dolla blah blah blah blah" - tbqh I spend like $100 every month on AppStore apps and every dollar counts to me and I especially hate it when I delete games I've spent on because the devs went freemium & its happening way to often now. So yes this dev deserves to be crapped on for it. Should have just made a new game, major mayhem 2 freemium warefare - that way the devs wouldn't take a dump on the gamers who weren't able to get the 20k or the gamers who don't like freemium. *puts dev on the do not support list*
Honestly didn't have this game before and I'm probably one of the biggest anti-paid to freemium proponents around here. But sounds like the developer put a lot of effort into the update and tried to do right by giving previous owners coins. Probably the biggest problem with the App Store and it's probably more of a privacy/security issue, is the lack of ability of devs to detect whether you had purchased a game previously or not. That would avoid a lot of complaints about people who deleted a game and then re-install. Anyway, as much as I hate paid to freemium business model changes, there are always going to be exceptions to the rule. And this sounds like it's clearly one of them with such a massive update. It's those games that just change from paid to freemium without any effort on the dev to give added value to earlier customers that I can't stand and don't support. Downloaded the game and loving it so I'll probably fork out dough for an IAP to support the dev. There are plenty of devs that truly screw over people who previously bought a game and then go freemium. This doesn't sound like one of them.
Now now, when I buy a bag of chips for slightly more money they continue to feed me for the rest of time, and candy I buy similarly last forever and never turns to poo, and we've never seen any well regarded games go freemium and be much more successful because of it *cough*templerun*cough* *cough*jetpackjoyride*cough* because it always ruins everything, leaving previous casual games simply unplayable if you don't pay more than a newly launched PS3 title... 'tis true, I read it on the internet ***** In adult land, by all means if a game is changed substantially by moving to freemium (e.g. Dark Meadows), some complaining is in order, but a $0.99 casual arcade game becoming a $0.00 casual arcade game, and one that you were so tired of you already deleted it some time ago I really struggle to see how anyone can get upset for more than a millisecond over something like that. It's particularly odd considering that the new approach actually gives the game something the complainers seemingly felt it lacked: a new enticement to replay the game, and so had the dev done what they insist was the right approach and made a second, new app they'd be complaining just as loud they didn't get the new stuff as a free update since, after all, they had spent a whole $1 on it.
*sigh Putting adult swim on a don't buy from list is your loss. Seriously I'm not arguing with anymore children in this thread. Everytime I buy an iOS game I just keep looking back to the amount of money I spent in arcades while growing up and that I probably spent more on one go of sega rally than I do on most iOS purchases. I look at all the 69p purchases as pretty much throw away games that I'll play for possibly a few days and delete. But that's just me.
FINALLY... a break from the insane! =oD Glad to know there's more than just a couple people supporting this MASSIVE update...
"Big time developers" are often in a position where they don't have to resort to such things in an attempt to make money from a fickle and selfish playerbase, so they're freely able to ride their high horse. The Tiny Wings developer can make that claim because he has raked in a metric puddingload more than 99% of other indie developers ever do. If TW hadn't taken off as it did, I don't think you would find Andreas slagging off the model quite so freely. What it comes down to is that you paid $1 and are now annoyed that other people are getting what you paid for, but for free. More importantly, though, you only had to pay $1 (because you're part of a playerbase who throws tantrums if prices go above that), and the developers spent far more than that making the game; if they feel they have no choice but to make a drastic change to recoup their investment because people aren't buying, well, that's something they're entitled to do.
Eventually the mobile market needs to get out of this 99 cent rut if it intends to grow with much better games and majority of developers need to stop dropping their prices that low...if not the mobile market is doomed to a bunch of these freemium crap apps. About a month ago I deleted all the freemium games from my systems and sadly this one recently...I can't stand this crap anymore. So yeah...I'm with some of the others...I hate freemium games and when paid games go freemium I never support the developer again. The idea of making a new Mayhem freemium game would have been better.
Bought this when it first came out. I could care less that it's free now, no big deal really. I deleted it long ago though so won't be able to get the early adopter bonus now, but that's my fault for deleting it. Anyway, curious as to whether this update added any Game Center achievements? That was the only thing missing from the game when it first came out IMO...
I went ahead and bought the coin doubler, and will most likely buy 25,000 coins tomorrow when I get another gift card. Would have done it now, but Metal Slug 3 ate up the remainder of my last one... so... =oP Anywho... Thank you again for this huge update! It's so great! =oD BTW... Once we buy the coin doubler, can we get it on our other devices without paying for it again? or is it considered a consumable that you need to purchase each time on each separate device?
Yes you can. Log in on your other device and scroll to the bottom of the coins menu. There is a button that says 'restore'. This will give you the coin mint (coin doubler) if you have already purchased it.
Oh man I'm currently saving up for the best outfit in the game (possibly any game) Ginger justice! Can't believe a move to freemium has gave a game I already finished so much more life. =)
Loving the game so far and I actually think the devs were more than generous for a freemium game. I think it's actually too easy to unlock all of the modes without spending a dime. Only thing you really need coins for is if you want to get better guns and/or supplies faster. Despite that I definately plan on getting at least one IAP to support the effort.
Not going to lie but, I felt screwed in not getting my bonus 20k coins. However, after playing and seeing the content, not an issue so far. The coins earned are generous and the ability to unlock supplies, weapons, skins, and levels gives the added "just a little bit more to get it" feeling. I must admit, this is probably the best "freemium" game on the market thus far. Very happy and the down side, don't like the "free" label on the icon, the dev has stated it is temporary.
Haha I unlocked chuck.... I mean ginger justice! Now just need a bit extra cash to unlock his hat. By fav my favourite of the new setup is time bomb mode I'm loving it.
