Hey SumoSplash, Thanks for the feedback, Here's what I can say for the moment. I hope it answers your questions. Major Mayhem 2 is still planned. We're currently working on a couple smaller Major Mayhem 1 updates. Some small content changes and some small IAP changes. Now you get worried about the IAP changes, I'm not adding wait timers, nor am I adding a second currency or facebook spam or anything else annoying. It'll just be some optimisations and experiments ahead of MM2. As for Major Mayhem 2, It will be freemium. That doesn't mean there won't be a premium version with no IAP or ads, but there definitely will be a freemium version. The reason it will be freemium is simple. When Major Mayhem we paid ($1) it only sold 70,000 units in 6 months. That's not enough for us to live on. When it went free if was downloaded 4.5 million times and has earned almost 10 times what it did when paid. There will likely be ads; but any ads we add to Major Mayhem 1 or 2 will be disabled with an optional IAP, potentially disabled with any IAP or potentially completely optional, as in you may be able to turn ads on if you want a bonus like the coin doubler or something similar without paying for it. Keep in mind that the more money Major Mayhem makes, the more we can reinvest and keep support it in future, the larger the team and the better the expertise we can employ to deliver you, the fans, better and better iterations of the franchise. As for Major Mayhem game content itself. We do want to make it have more depth, more action, more destruction and more strategy... so yes, basically everything you said and more. I hope this answers your questions and puts your mind at ease with regard to the future of the franchise. Thanks heaps for playing it and thanks for being so passionate about it. It's great to see when fans are so vocal.
Hey Anthony, thanks for the quick response. Yes, that is what I was hoping to hear. I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from It's funny that you say Major Mayhem earned nearly ten times when it went free. Realistically the only Freemium aspect of the game is the consumable IAP. In essence then this is an example of a game that can make that much more money without including any ads, any timers, or any dual currency. In fact, it's funny how much less intrusive I am finding the consumable IAP to be when there is no dual currency there to push it. Interesting little factoids for every other developer out there who is trying to milk the cow from every teat available What's important in dealing with Freemium is giving the player who wants a Premium experience the means to do so. Unfortunately, this is a conflict with the Freemium model in general, since it allows the player a way to escape it. Speaking of ways to avoid Freemium, and since you mentioned the possibility of having a separate Premium version of MM2 without IAP and adds, what are your thoughts on this idea: a Premium unlock within the Freemium game. I've been tossing the idea around the forums a lot, just to see the responses I would get. You know, instead of having a separate version of the game, it would be accessible from within, via a one time IAP.
Well yeah, MM did earn nearly 10 times more than it did when it was paid, but with our implementation of F2P and based on our analytics we make about 10 times less than the average and I stress the word average, F2P game on iOS and Android... over 98% over people never pay us a cent, hence why I'm trying to optimise IAP without making it any more intrusive on the people that do pay us already. As for a premium unlock, I don't think it would be as effective as a premium version of the app as a lot of people that completely loath F2P don't ever look at free games to begin with. So being on top of the paid charts at $5 is probably a better option than the top of the free charts with a $5 IAP to unlock all or whatever.
That's because your implementation of F2P is so much less invasive. No ads, no dual currency, no wait timers. Less money for you. Better game for me. Good point. It may go too unnoticed as it would be disguised by the slimy Freemium exterior I've never seen it done and it just seemed like a good middle of the road solution, in theory at least. I am encouraged by your perspective on things. You realize that Freemium is your money maker, but don't want to abuse it, while simultaneously you are entertaining the thought of having a Premium version of MM2. That would be effing fantastic. You've got my money with the Premium, night of release. That's a promise. Oh, I meant to ask you, is Major Mayhem iPad Retina? If not, will it be added?
Cool. I figured as much. Thanks for the feedback man, keep in touch. I look forward to the Mayhem that is in the pipeline
I was just playing and had a couple of, well, what I would call ingenious ideas, so I thought I'd share. Firstly, it may be cool to have the chopper that transports you around added as a boost, where the chopper would fly in and the gunner would participate in shooting. Secondly (and I actually laughed out loud when I thought of this because it seemed so perfect) is to be able to use the same type of gun that Robocop had in the movie when the robo suit is equipped. Whatever default weapon was equipped before the suit goes on would disappear temporarily and Mayhem would reach into his leg and pull out that auto-hand cannon that Robocop had. It could even shoot the same, with those super quick bursts! Man, I loved that gun.
I see that icloud support was added today. Is that supposed to include syncing between devices cause it doesn't seem to be working for me
Hey guys, Just wanted to point you to this thread where I'll be posting progress on one of our new titles. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=223971 Cheers.
Hey, good luck with the rocket ski jump game, gotta say if it is anywhere close to Major Mayhem, it should be an awesome game!
Just reinstalled this about a week ago, and I'm so freakn re-hooked. I've beat the game again and have 40k coins stocked up. Gonna blow it all on power ups and try my best to move up the leaderboards... I can't wait to check out your new game! If it's even half as fun as MM, it'll be a blast!
Good to hear. Trust me, our next game is going to be better than Major Mayhem. That's my opinion anyway. It's not a rail shooter though so diehard rail shooter fans may not agree with me. I'm going to implement Everyplay into out development build of Epic Ski Trip so people will be able to see it in motion soon. Cheers, Antony.
Very fair... weapons unlock on their own as you level up (by completing objectives). I did buy the currency doubler, but that's because I felt the dev deserved more than my initial $0.99 purchase (before it became freemium). This is one VERY good example of how a move from premium to freemium was done right, and the balance is definitely about as close to perfect as it can get. Don't waste money on consumable power-ups until you've completed the main campaign and are going at the other modes for score - you'll pick up plenty of them in-game in the campaign anyway - also, once you unlock the plasma riffle (which is pretty early on if I'm remembering correctly, as well as other rapid fire automatic weapons) you'll be able to gain coins at a faster rate because chaining is made a lot easier and you'll get the coin bonus for that too... so... yup... hope you enjoy it!
